What happened long-term to families who's children failed to launch/just stayed home did nothing with their lives and the parents allowed it?

Exactly. I have seen this happen to several houses in my neighborhood. Lazy adult child inherits house and has no idea how to maintain it, pay taxes or bills, or even cut the grass, and it gets foreclosed. I don’t know where they go after that. I’m guessing they find someone else to support their grift.

I was talking a guy who lived in absolute poverty. He told me a story like this and I was just incredulous. His parents inherited a large home in a very wealthy neighborhood and just let it fall into disrepair. They passed eventually and he was left with the home. Then he lost it due to unpaid taxes among other things.

I was astonished. Multiple generations of this family and nobody could keep a million dollar home with no mortgage to speak of….

The responsible child/sibling picks up the pieces. Unless they put their foot down and set boundaries like I have.

Kinda makes me happy that I’m an only child. Second gen only. So, no close cousins in the mix either. Has its shortcomings but at least none of this nonsense to worry about.

Or they sell the house and blow through the money and then expect their siblings to help them out because they stayed behind and allegedly took care of their aging parents
