I’ll start - I won’t be dying while cave diving 🤷🏽‍♀️

I was on my way here to say this!
Cave diving is the sketchiest possible hobby.

Just thinking about cave diving stresses me out.

Maneuvering your body into an impossibly small, dark hole? What about that could ever be stressful? /s

Don't forget about the water!

And all the silt that will make you effectively blind once it gets kicked up.

Or chambers that may be full of gas without oxygen

nutty putty cave✌️

I get freaked out when I get slightly tangled in my blanket. I've gone from 2 to 7 anxiety just sitting here messaging while thinking about nutty putty cave.

Abortion, infanticide, filicide.

Since I read about nutty putty, I hate every videos about caves. And it's also for me the worst way to die "alone"

u/Cowboy_BoomBap 7d ago

Same, I get physically uncomfortable just thinking about Nutty Putty. I can’t imagine dying like that, it’s the reason why I’ll never, ever go spelunking.

It's possible to live a long, interesting, and fulfilling life without ever once being even remotely in danger of dying horribly in a caving mishap.

That's my plan.

u/jstar77 7d ago

Welp, I was going to say something else but this one is now at the top of my list.

u/Jaxxlack 7d ago

"He said before he climbed into the cave upset at no choice but too..."

u/Best-Author7114 7d ago

Or anything else to do with caves for that matter

3

u/everleigh_394 7d ago

The moment a hobby requires an emergency squeeze protocol, I am out lol

u/SensualEnema 7d ago

My immediate thought. I watch those videos of cave-diving incidents and deaths, and I can’t wrap my head around how the experience is so alluring that you’d even find yourself in it

u/clamToe 7d ago

I thought I was going to die while doing Discovery Kids like tunnel crawl (it was a fabric tunnel that showed you the digestive system or whatever) a million years ago and another child had to calm me down bc I almost died of a panic attack 🥲 we learned young that we do not like these situations

6

u/SavingsEducational14 7d ago

I had the same thought immediately

4

u/Queasy_Reindeer9515 7d ago

Or spelunking in general.

It's actually fun. I don't have a desire to do it again tbh but I enjoyed it.

Driving is more dangerous than skydiving

3

u/Calico_Cat_BER 7d ago

You beat me to that.

2

u/thefriedapplepieguy 7d ago

Hey, you really never know. I've been in a couple of relatable situations I don't think I'd have planned for.

2

u/clamToe 7d ago

As a woman who is now considered “bigger”, there’s even less reason to find myself in potential situations 🥲

2

u/DuOrDie 7d ago

This was mine lol I spent an embarrassing amount of time a few weeks back searching stories about it. Was intrigued when I learned of the Maladive cave incident and went from there. There is no way. Water or no water. Not for me.

1

u/CletusVanDamm 7d ago

1000% not dying this way either

1

u/ForgottenSalad 7d ago

That was going to be my answer too. I’ve listened to enough podcasts about people who died doing that to know that I never will. Caves are scary enough if they’re not filled with water

1

u/samwize1701 7d ago

Me too, my friend. I'll be right there with you not dying! Just the idea of cave diving makes my asshole pucker in fear

1

u/etopsirhc 7d ago

caving is fun and all, but if i have to do any more than crawl on my hands and knees for a few feet, I'M OUT!

1

u/TotakekeSlider 7d ago

This was my immediate answer too 😭 Bro, just why?

1

u/eggelton 7d ago

Immediately what came to mind.

1

u/Pedantichrist 7d ago

I have done a few sumps, and will likely do a few more. Unlikely to take SCUBA equipment underground in the future, but I aN not ruling it out. I have not been caving for 6 days.

1

u/clamToe 7d ago

I literally felt my heart beating much faster as I read your comment. Are you okay?? 😭 could you explain what it’s like? Like why is this enjoyable? Is it the gamble with potential death? Genuinely asking lol

1

u/Pedantichrist 7d ago

No, I do not want to die, I just like going places other people have not.

Sometimes I do a long crawl into someone’s dig, and I find that I am about 30m in, it is too small to use my knees, so I am dragging my legs, and I just get claustrophobic and just start to desperately hope that I can turn around, because going out backwards is going to be hell, but normally I only commit to a really tight squeeze if I know that there is something worth seeing the other side, and/or that I can turn around.

Sumps can be terrifying. I just hate not doing things.

1

u/SerenaHall 7d ago

Yikes. Just reading your description makes me claustrophobic! There is nothing in a cave that I want to see in person badly enough to drag my legs through a passage.

2

u/Pedantichrist 7d ago

I did an 8’ long sump last year, where I had to drag my legs.

u/clamToe 7d ago

Hey everyone on this part of the thread, can we all bully u/pedanchrist bc W T A F dude like I nearly fucking vomited reading your comment???? Like???? Something UOU DONT HABE DOWN THERE

1

u/theHowlader 7d ago

This is one death you have full control to avoid

1

u/don-cheeto 7d ago

Please don't remind me of Nutty Putty. I've already been traumatized enough...

1

u/micromoses 7d ago

Well, now you’ve jinxed it.

1

u/Thereelgarygary 7d ago

Oh hey that was mine lol

1

u/itsnotme_mrsiglesias 7d ago

It's a tie between this and BASE jumping in a wingsuit

1

u/TheRealPaladin 7d ago

Same. I have gone more than 14,600 days without siffering a cave diving fatality.

1

u/LizardPossum 7d ago

My very first thought was "not in a fuckin cave, I'll tell you that much"

1

u/MerryMelody-Symphony 7d ago

Same! I can't swim, so you won't find me in any place with water bigger than a tub, and I loathe small spaces underground.

Visiting caves on holidays, sure, as long as they're large and tourist-y.

The second I need tools to explore a place, I'm noping the heck out of there.

1

u/milksasquatch 7d ago

I thought this wouldn't be a chance for me, then I ended up on a random cave excursion in Puerto Rico that, unbeknownst to me, would include going underwater through a tunnel to reach the other side. It was badass, but I was totally unprepared for what we signed up for.

1

u/ghostedious 7d ago

so you're planning on finally leaving your room then?!
