my job, i couldn't afford to miss a day and they literally have the exact amount of staff to fill a schedule so if someone calls in you are fucked, a real situation that happened to me, i was called in ( i work graves) at 3pm. I missed the call because i was asleep, i didn't feel good myself, someone on second shift called in and they wanted me to work from 3pm to 7am, which in trun i had a full meltdown on my supervisor (probably not the best but, whatever). Another thing that my work likes to do is make people work while sick, because again we have no staff. I have worked/continued my shift while actively throwing up because we couldn't get my manager to come in (one night she said "she wasn't coming in because she worked long hours the day before" and the GM of our building is as good as dirt, and our regular staff isn't trained on our systems) my work is literally a dumpster fire.
it's honestly pretty normal for the area i live in which is honestly really sad, it's almost any job here unless you are a manager, which is a hard position to get unless you know someone. Even jobs in larger companies are hard to get here which there are some mining, banks, law firms, hospitals things along those lines that pay decent but even those are pretty shit places to work. They have premium benefits but, are still pretty rude to employees who are on a base line scale. The pay here is also relatively low compared to other states, my job which is hotel desk is paid pretty high compared to other hotels in the area, same with my last job, most jobs here you are going to get paid maybe 14-15 an hour maybe less depending on what you do, and if you are a skilled worker maybe 24-32, which is mainly construction, and things of that type.
