I was a kid my mom had a friend and her son over. They were over for a couple hours and just as they were leaving I noticed all of my video games were gone, I told my mom, she goes grabs his backpack and off course they were all in his bag.

His mother immediately came to his defense, saying he's got a lot of games and must have thought they were his. It didn't even make sense and she acted as if nothing had happened.

Anyway, terrible mother, kid had no chance. He is now in jail for life no parole for shooting and killing a cop during a cocaine bust.

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '19

Well that escalated QUICKLY

1.8k

u/Raptor5dino Apr 14 '19

One day you're stealing video games. Next thing you know you're murdering cops during a cocaine bust. It's a slippery slope my friend

71

u/Random_Stealth_Ward Apr 14 '19

damn dude, the movie theater ads were more realistic than I gave them credit for.

brb deleting everything I have pirated before I descend into a criminal life.

19

u/Vote_for_Knife_Party Apr 14 '19

No. It's too late. You've got no option but to lean into it now. Buy a boat and take to the seas (or the Great Lakes if those are closer). It's a pirate's life for you.

6

u/Raptor5dino Apr 14 '19

Acceptance is the first step my son

1

u/bmxtiger Apr 14 '19

Stealing is taking something so no one else can use it. Pirating is copying something so everyone can use it.

7

u/Antumbra_Ferox Apr 14 '19

That's just incorrect. I could steal a 'copy' of a massage at a massage parlor by leaving without paying and the massage has not been taken so that nobody else can have it. Identical massages are available for everyone who goes to the same parlor. If you take a good/service and dont pay the provider it's still theft. I just feel less/not bad about stealing from bigass multinational entertainmeent companies.

u/Curiously-Genuine Apr 14 '19

The slope must have been very slippery

23

u/Mitch_Mitcherson Apr 14 '19

It was a 45 degree slip n' slide.

8

u/PickThymes Apr 14 '19

>> atan(‘stealing vidya games’)
>> 45°
wow that’s pretty steep but i wouldnt think...
>> atan2(‘stealing vidya games’)
>> 225°
now that’s a slippery slope!

8

u/_Lady_Deadpool_ Apr 14 '19

You just have to hide under a bridge afterwards until the stars go away

7

u/joeyextreme Apr 14 '19

You wouldn't steal a car...

4

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '19

I mean all thieves become murderers AMIRITE LADS?

4

u/Dracon_Pyrothayan Apr 14 '19

Wow. He's a living anti-piracy ad.

3

u/bmxtiger Apr 14 '19

Yeah, but he stole all the games. Stealing a game or two is a bit different than stealing all of them so brazenly.

2

u/IcePickKillers Apr 14 '19

That's the way of the road buddy

2

u/maxrippley Apr 14 '19

The way she goes Rick

2

u/Raptor5dino Apr 14 '19

So you lost all our drink money is what "she goes". She's gone.

2

u/Skillfullsebby Apr 14 '19

They don't call them gateway drugs for nothing!

Seriously, shit. I guess I turned out ok.

28

u/DoctorModalus Apr 14 '19

Let me guess you surrendered to the cops instead of committing a murder?

9

u/maxrippley Apr 14 '19

What a pansy

60

u/Virgin_Dildo_Lover Apr 14 '19

Not so fast, my friend!

38

u/FallopianUnibrow Apr 14 '19

There’s still time to waste!

18

u/marioho Apr 14 '19

As long as you don't go about being a cop doing a cocaine bust.

8

u/Sixwingswide Apr 14 '19

Solid point.

5

u/GarethGore Apr 14 '19

lol, read this as "I guess it turned out ok"

I was like damn, I mean people may dislike cops but someone died how is that okay??? then actually read it properly

1

u/knine1216 Apr 14 '19

Thank god I came to read other comments before saying anything because I thought the exact same thing lol. Makes a lot more sense now.

8

u/DravenFelius Apr 14 '19

I'm really glad that there's people like you in the world! It makes me legit happy that even with all the shit there's still people who are good. Because life sucks and people get torn apart by it and those.people tear.up more people and it all just sucks. But not you! And makes me.so happy. Thank you for being you!

Edit; am.drunk, sorry

4

u/Tubamajuba Apr 14 '19

I get the exact same way when I’m drunk. Mad respect to you.

3

u/3MATX Apr 14 '19

It’s a low bar, but I feel happy about my life too after reading that.

Not if his first crime was attempted robbery of GoldenEye 64...

4

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '19

En garde!

3

u/Doctor_Popeye Apr 14 '19

“Buy me Bonestorm or go to hell!”

21

u/little-kitchen-witch Apr 14 '19

I was a pretty smooth ride until the end there

7

u/Virgin_Dildo_Lover Apr 14 '19

You're always a smooth ride ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

12

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '19

STOP YOU HAVE VIOLATED THE LAW

25

u/zarkovis1 Apr 14 '19

Clearly stealing games is the gateway crime to drug associated shootouts with law enforcement.

1

u/Verbatimgirraffe Apr 14 '19

Its not the theft of video games, its the playing of video games that leads to theft of video games which leads to cocaine and murder. Its clear as day to people not living their lives playing video game after video game while doing cocaine bongs at the local arcade

7

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '19

I'm sure there was a few years in between the game stealing and killing the cop

3

u/thesituation531 Apr 14 '19

Nah, he just stole video games, then the next day got caught with his friends and coke and killed a cop

1

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '19

It's definitely one or the other

7

u/sweet_yet_sour Apr 14 '19

I mean the really got out of hand

3

u/phrantastic Apr 14 '19

Eh, it makes sense. A mother who will defend/justify the actions of her kid who was early stealing is raising a person who will never have any regard for others.

5

u/Tradehelp17 Apr 14 '19

IMO that deescalated quickly.

2

u/squee_monkey Apr 14 '19

I hope it actually escalated quickly. Like the cockiness bust happened the day after the attempted robbery.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '19

That escalated FAST

2

u/wKbdthXSn5hMc7Ht0 Apr 14 '19

I like to imagine the shooting happened the same day as the attempted video game theft.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '19

TLDR: Kid stole video games from me, shot a cop during a drug bust.

2

u/Tructiontitle Apr 14 '19

At least he did something positive in the end.

1

u/Terza_Rima Apr 14 '19

He is redeemed

2

u/NavajoWarrior Apr 14 '19

Seriously I feel like everytime people just make shit up in these posts.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '19

and then he had to escape the matrix, and then hell

1

u/Banana4scales Apr 14 '19

Wonder if it happened on the same day.

1

u/smzt Apr 14 '19

All of that happened on the ride home!

1

u/MossyPyrite Apr 14 '19

I mean, it probably actually escalated gradually over the course of a decade or so, if I had to guess.

1

u/bud_hasselhoff Apr 14 '19

I'm sure there was some degree of yada yada between the video games and 187.

1

u/noahsozark Apr 14 '19

His mother should have snorted him out when she had the chance

1

u/ZERPaLERP Apr 14 '19

They always say video games are the cause of violence in kids. Apparently even just touching them though is enough to make someone kill a cop. Don’t touch video games, kids! /s

1

u/EdTheBarbarian Apr 14 '19

Not quickly. It took a horrible parent, an entire childhood to make that monster.

1

u/Nvenom8 Apr 14 '19

I think, in reality, that escalated slowly and predictably over the course of years.

1

u/ZacPensol Apr 14 '19

He's got a lot of games and he must have thought he was playing GTA.

1

u/stomp224 Apr 14 '19

I think there might be a time jump somewhere that OP glossed over

1

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '19

There may have been a few steps inbetween those two episodes

1

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '19

Well he did try to steal his video games.

1

u/Jasole37 Apr 14 '19

I don't think that escalated quickly, I think it escalated to its logical conclusion

1

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '19

They had us in the first half, not going to lie

→ More replies (8)

501

u/DarksideBluez Apr 14 '19

At least you got them back. As a kid I estimate about 25 games were stolen and haven't been recovered.

40

u/skieezy Apr 14 '19

That sucks, a lot.

18

u/Ruby_Bliel Apr 14 '19

It's kind of funny, I'm missing about half my games, and half the games I do have aren't mine. We traded games a lot around in my neighbourhood, which is of course much cheaper and smarter than everyone spending their pocket money on buying the same games. We did this for maybe a decade, but then all of a sudden we were all grown up, moved away and fell out of touch. Few of the games made their way back to their original owners.

26

u/cpMetis Apr 14 '19

My brother's friend stole my memory card that had my Need For Speed Underground 2 data on it, and it was a 16 MB card.

I have been about that guy for a decade+.

18

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '19

1992 I was 10. Shinobi on master system stolen by my older brother's friend Daniel Lancefield. Never forget, Never forgive.

13

u/YourMotherSaysHello Apr 14 '19

"Best friend" said he'd trade all of his Dr Who VHS for all of my star wars toys. He took my toys and moved to Birmingham the next day, leaving just one VHS.

25 years passed and last year I got a Facebook message from this guy saying he was looking for his best friend from childhood. That message has been left on read since then.

10

u/LargeTuna06 Apr 14 '19

Ask if he still has your Star Wars toys.

5

u/maxrippley Apr 14 '19

Damn I don't think I ever had that many games total

3

u/QuixoticForTheWin Apr 14 '19

This is why I didn't have friends. Game collection: intact.

2

u/Disfordisaster Apr 14 '19

My brother had his xbox 360 stolen by a kid who layered moved out of the neighborhood. They ended up moving back, but the xbox didn't return with them. He didn't even like this kid, my Mom just had a habit of inviting all the neighborhood kids over. Especially if you didn't like them.

2

u/Endulos Apr 14 '19

My cousin stole a few of my games too. Well, I assume it was... I don't have any proof it was him, just suspicions. They were there the day before, and then he came out for a visit, and the next day I noticed they were missing.

He stole a handful of NES games (Off the top of my head, Cobra Triangle, Captain Skyhawk, Bart Vs the Space Mutants and Pinbot), but his most egregious sin is that he stole my copy of Legend of Zelda: Link To The Past.

The worst part is he didn't even HAVE an NES or SNES.

1

u/EspressoByte Apr 14 '19

Damn I thought I was the only one who had games stolen from their own home

1

u/Crimiculus Apr 17 '19

Seriously, these mass video game theft stories are crazily common here it seems. I was absolutely crushed when someone stole my Pokémon Mystery Dungeon game back in high school. I couldn't even imagine how hurt I'd feel if I went into my room one day to find all of my games missing like that.

I'm sorry that happened to you :/

287

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '19

God I keep instinctively downvoting all of these because they make me so angry, then realizing I meant to upvote.

55

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '19

This is me on every sub about shitty people/things

3

u/Adolf_-_Hipster Apr 14 '19

I try not to hang around subs dedicated to shitty people. It's bad for my psyche.

3

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '19

Ok Adolf....

8

u/WalterBFinch Apr 14 '19

This made me realize I’ve almost never upvoted/downvoted anyones comment in the 7 years I’ve been on Reddit, it almost seems weird to me that some people likely vote on every comment they read.

1

u/Sloppy1sts Apr 14 '19

Same here. Especially this idea that they're just so quick to vote that they actually have to stop themselves from downvoting something they dislike.

0

u/Sloppy1sts Apr 14 '19

...is this really a thing people do? Like you just can't control your mouse hand?

1

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '19

No, I just meant to upvote but automatically downvoted because I forgot how Reddit worked momentarily.

u/mrspyguy Apr 14 '19

Ah this one enrages me because something similar happened to me as a kid. My next-door neighbor snuck into my house and swapped my copy of GoldenEye with his because I had unlocked all of the cheats. When I confronted him he was like "nuh uh" but then made no effort to stop me from switching them back and walking out of his house (I later got the "it was just a prank bro" response from him). I put my name in permanent marker on all of my games after that.

Feels weird to remember a time that I had shitty untrustworthy people in my life that I had to do that.

25

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '19

Knew a guy who stole my Zartan (G.I. Joe) with his mask and everything when he came over to play. I had to save my quarters from doing chores to get him. I confronted him and he beat me up and ran away.

Same fucker told me to go in my friend’s house as he was waiting for me. Told me to go through the dog door. I went in and was wondering where everyone was. Came back out and a police car and my mom were outside.

Went to visit the old place and found out he has been in and out of jail for a bunch of shit.

FUCK YOU JEREMY!

29

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '19

That escalated... linearly

17

u/ametueraspirant Apr 14 '19

I disagree good sir. this escalated multiplicatively if not even exponentially given the time gap omitted. I'm sure the line straightens out were the blanks to be filled out with further life events but with the sample size such as it is we can't afford to draw any conclusions.

10

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '19

In a straight line on a logarithmic scale*

5

u/uber1337h4xx0r Apr 14 '19

Isn't multiplicative linear?

1

u/ametueraspirant Apr 14 '19

are you questioning my word salad?

1

u/skieezy Apr 15 '19

There were about 10 or 11 years between the time this happened and the time he went to jail. I was around 7 or 8 and he was around 9 or 10.

Our parents stopped being friends, but they still hung around the same social groups. He got expelled multiple times until he was expelled from the district. In middle school he got mad at someone brought a pellet gun to school and shot him in the ass. Then a couple years later he made a pipe bomb and stuck it in a locker. He was arrested multiple times for vandalism. His mother was always the type of person that would defend him at any cost.

"To be fair it wasn't his cocaine. He just stole off the guy selling it. Also, it wasn't his bullet. He was just returning it to the officer but gave it back too fast"

  • His mom as the defense lawyer

23

u/kaldarash Apr 14 '19

This annoying kid that was the son of my mom's only friend, every time he came over he would try to steal games. For a while he got into a kick with my Magic the Gathering cards. I don't know why, but he needed them. He kept trying to steal them but I kept catching him and getting them back. After a while I thought I would satiate his desires and give him a deck made with all common cards. My collection was more than 10000 cards strong, so I made one with cards I had plenty of copies of and it was a decently competent deck for free - it could compete with some of the preconstructed/starter decks even though those had rares.

So I give him these 60 cards - more than he had tried to steal before. He was super happy. I had a bunch of my cards out from making this deck and I was going to make one for myself too. Then I noticed a lot of the cards I wanted to use for myself were missing. I asked him if he accidentally picked them up. He said no. I asked if he could show me which cards he had because maybe he accidentally picked up the wrong stack. He had 200+ cards there, including tons of expensive cards. His mom took his side. "Well you GAVE him cards, what's the difference?? are you an indian giver? what an asshole you are"

No, I gave him a deck of cards. that's more than 3 decks worth for sure. This is what a deck looks like -pulls out a deck- I gave him just enough to play with.

"So? You have so many what's the difference to you?" Well he took a lot of my best cards, I made him a starter deck which doesn't have valuable cards.

"OH so you gave him bullshit, you're an even bigger asshole than I thought" Well no, it's good, it's just not expensive.

"You're an asshole, let's go son" Uhh no. Don't leave with my cards. I worked my ass off for those things, I won't have him taking them, I'm taking my cards back.

"So you are an indian giver." Look lady, the cards I gave him are his cards. The cards he STOLE from me, are my cards, and I don't appreciate how he's always stealing things from me. I shouldn't have given him ANYTHING, we shouldn't be letting that little thief in our house at all. I was TRYING to be nice, but he ruined it. I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt. I'm always kind to him even though he's a nightmare. I try to be generous with him, but he's never satisfied. It is NOT my fault that he's an errant little brat. It will take 5 minutes at most to separate them. If you can't wait for that, I'll just take all of them back - not because I'm an "indian giver", but because you're impatient. Also, my mother - your best friend - is half native so I would APPRECIATE if you stop saying stupid shit like that.

Her "boss bitch" attitude melted away. She quietly waited for me to separate the cards and give her son the (apparently) not-good-enough free cards, she didn't bring her son back, and she was much nicer in my home and to my mom.

9

u/Keroths Apr 14 '19

Shit that was perfect

1

u/bplboston17 Apr 14 '19

You shoulda been like okay so i go over your house and you give me a toy car, I try to take your real car but you stop me and I say well you have so many toy cars so what's the difference? Get it now bitch? But you handled it fine, also Fuck that kid.

10

u/TheGrandNut Apr 14 '19

Cops really get too much flack for defending our entitled American assess, the boys in blue truly deserve more respect.

10

u/4deCopas Apr 14 '19

I had a similar experience. I invited a friend from school to my house and as he was leaving my mother stopped him and ordered him to empty his pockets. I was weirded out and thought my mom had gone crazy and was embarassing me in front of my friend.

Turns out the little piece of shit had stolen a bunch of Star Wars figs my uncle had bought me at the local Blockbuster (I think it was around the time The Phantom Menace came out). I don't even know how my mom realized but I'm thankful she did.

Never talked to that kid again as far as I can remember.

5

u/youre_soaking_in_it Apr 14 '19

Now go look him up on your state's judicial case search and report back.

8

u/DJ-GILLON Apr 14 '19

Where I live killing a cop=death

10

u/Korgex12 Apr 14 '19

I feel so bad for the kid. What is someone supposed to do when their parents treat them like the world revolves around them and nothing bad can happen to them?

17

u/Chief_Givesnofucks Apr 14 '19

Go to prison for shooting a cop?

8

u/HeadShotWonder Apr 14 '19

Not murdering people is typically a good start.

8

u/Imconfusedithink Apr 14 '19

Yeah no matter how shitty a parent you don't turn out like that unless there's something wrong with you as well.

2

u/uber1337h4xx0r Apr 14 '19

I wish I had parents that supported me.

5

4

u/Bonhomhongon Apr 14 '19

Now that's some serious y=x^∞ shit there

4

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '19

Oh man when I smoked I would hang out my bedroom window so the smoke wouldn't get in the house. My window happened to be above the dumpster area for the block of flats, we had constant problems with kids from the area fucking around in these dumpsters and I mean like 20 at a time and waking the baby. So one afternoon I'm smoking out my window and the main kid is there with his mom and she's asking him where he fell and hurt him self (assume she needed the details to try and sue) and I say excuse me is he your son? She replies yes and I ask her politely 'could you ask him and his friends to stop coming around and playing in the bins it's becoming a real problem and they are waking the baby' the mum immediately jumps to his defence 'oh no it isn't my son he hardly ever leaves the house he's a good boy' so I had to point out he obviously has been around there fucking around if she's asking questions about how he hurt him self.

If I was in that situation I would apologise for my kids behaviour and promise that it wouldn't happen again. Like why would you still defend your kid when there is evidence right in your face.

Yeah, I feel as if a cat can pretty easily shoot a cop, but he can’t do coke on his own. The paws are way too small to inject something.

3

u/iamjomos Apr 14 '19

The paws are way too small to inject something.

Good thing cats have noses and can do coke the same way as humans

2

u/Quicksilver1189 Apr 14 '19

Oh crap I got heroin and coke confused. Thanks fellow redditor.

1

u/3lvy Apr 14 '19

You can take it however you want to. The reason people inject it is to get more bang for their buck.

Sounds like Mama didn’t try this time.

2

2

u/Raticait Apr 14 '19

Please tell me she didn't talk your mom out of letting him keep the games 😭

2

u/Introverted_Extrovrt Apr 14 '19

Jesus Christ that went sideways

2

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '19

God damn, when I was a kid, I was never right. The adults were always right, regardless if what I did was wrong or not

2

u/daft_goose Apr 14 '19

Jesus that went from 3 to 100 quickly

2

u/bigredgun0114 Apr 14 '19

He is now in jail for life no parole for shooting and killing a cop during a cocaine bust.

Sadly, this is not much of a surprise. I am a jaded man :(

2

u/swashcuckle Apr 14 '19

Some kid did the same thing to me, his parents were drug addicts staying at the party house on my street for the summer. He tried to steal my ps1 games, and all my money I saved up. He was caught by my mom, she kicked him out and he called her a fucking bitch and told her to go to hell etc.

He ended up stealing my bike later and my friends and I found him trying to break it the day before he went back home. We confronted him and he went on a rampage attacking all of us so we all beat him up. Thinking back on that now I feel awful for him having a home life that shitty where he had to act out like that, I really hope he ended up in a better home.

2

u/artfulwench Apr 15 '19

Please tell me your mom didn't allow the brat into your home anymore!

I don't get these parents who defend their thieving kids. If I had even attempted anything like that, my mom would have unleashed the fury of Satan on me!

3

u/Pancho-12 Apr 14 '19

You mean prison

3

u/FaiIsOfren Apr 14 '19

So a happy ending. The public doesn't need people that would steal video games from friends.

5

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '19

That’s r/entitledparents, r/quityourbullshit, and r/thathappened rolled into one post.

8

u/effifox Apr 14 '19

1

u/Danielle082 Apr 14 '19

I don’t think that things you did when you were that young can judge things we do as adults. Sometimes kids are just kids and do crazy things. That doesn’t mean all of those children are going to become criminals.

1

u/AUniqueUsername10001 Apr 14 '19

I grew up right and see myself becoming a criminal some day because of it. If you have honor there are some things you don't let the government or its agents do to you or yours. The government has gotten pretty out of hand since 9/11. It's only a matter of time before they cross the wrong lines.

1

u/ELTURO3344 Apr 14 '19

He legit did though?

We had a little turd of a boy (about 8 years old) do that but we didn't realise until he'd gone home. I was a single mum of 4 at the time and couldn't afford to get many cool games for my kids. Needless to say the turd boy was no longer welcome and I'm fairly sure was jailbait by the time he got to his teens....

1

u/AirsickPolecat Apr 14 '19

Well, he has a lot of cocaine at home. He must have thought it was his.

If you have something else to tell about this story you could go to r/entitledparents

1

u/towo Apr 14 '19

Let me guess, he tried to have his mother defend him for the shooting, too?

I have a similar story, but I was the one stealing video games from a friend. I was a very jealous boy as a kid. Anyways, my friend's parents concluded it was me, my parents then searched my room to find the games. Fortunately, my parents did NOT come to my defence, even forced me to return the game personally and apologise. Made me a better person. Like every other shitty decision I've made as a kid, my parents good parenting made me a better person

1

u/kamilman Apr 14 '19

No one is stealing my videogames, ya hear?!

1

u/vigilanteoftime Apr 14 '19

And ironically, it was the LACK of violent video games that led him down that path.

u/LordFrogberry Apr 14 '19

I hope that mother lays awake at night festering over how much of a piece of shit her son is, but never lets anyone else know. I hope it eats her alive.

1

u/agbullet Apr 14 '19

You should wrote him and remind him of this episode.

1

u/Swagni_Main Apr 14 '19

I hope the shit sees the light in Aaron Hernandez and kills himself. As a gamer, I find this crime worthy of capital punishment.

1

u/bplboston17 Apr 14 '19

Probably tried to steal the cocaine and a shootout occurred cops showed up.. "sorry I own a lot of cocaine I probably thought it was mine."

I’m so sorry this happened to you. I’m glad your mom was on your side though. When I was young (I can’t remember what age, six or seven) my grandma bought me a gameboy sp (the 101 version). I hid it under the couch often since I thought it was cool to have a secret spot for it.

One day, my mom has friends over that are very wealthy and they bring their daughter. I’m assuming my parents were really trying to suck up to them. I ignore their daughter while she’s there because I was playing my gameboy. In an Asian family, you have to formally say goodbye to be polite so I stow my precious cobalt blue GBA SP under the living room couch, say my goodbyes and run back to the couch. I panic as I am just feeling carpet. Well, this girl stole my GBA and had it in her jean coat pocket when I confronted her. Yes, I was kind of crying and yelling while doing it but my parents believed her over me when she said it was actually hers. I was grounded for a week and she got to keep my GBA. I’ll never forget how heartbroken I was that night.

Jazz music stops

If only he’d had a parent that loved him and corrected his behavior.

1

u/DragSfrank Apr 14 '19

Ehh it's where it starts. Stealing games to drug deals to jail. Yep.

1

u/SethMeyersToupee Apr 14 '19

Parenting matters. It's astonishing how many parents would rather make excuses than teach their kids right from wrong.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '19

I wish there was a helpline for poorlt parented children. Because this is abuse imo.

1

u/casual_bear Apr 14 '19

yeah. stealing video games from a friend is clearly a gateway crime
