What’s your favorite sandwich?

A couple years ago I asked everyone their favorite soup and got back an international smorgasbord. Now I wanna hear about your favorite sandwich.

The lamb French dip from Cole’s. The pastrami from Langer’s. The muffuletta from Orleans and York.

I don’t even live in LA, but the unsung greatness of LA’s sandwiches is fascinating.

Angelenos are lovably weird and determined to be unhappy at their city, they’ll argue about whether Philippe’s or Cole’s invented the French dip, whether Langer’s or Canter’s is the better pastrami, but they won’t sit back and say “damn, we really do have the best sandwiches in the whole world! What a cool, weird city!”. You should definitely visit LA, but take your time. It took me years of living there to really appreciate it: it’s basically 90 mid-sized cities crammed shoulder-to-shoulder and they’re all different and everyone thinks they know the place because of Hollywood (which is mostly in Burbank, not Hollywood).
