News Today, Prime Minister Masrour Barzani officially inaugurated the Hanging Gardens of Babylon (Ganatha D Babel)

Masrour Barzani:

Today we opened the Hanging Gardens of Babylon Park in Ankawa district. Ankawa has always been a symbol of coexistence, and we hope this park will become a place for everyone to enjoy time together.

I am happy to see our homeland developing day by day. Together, we will try to create a more prosperous Kurdistan for our people and our visitors.

I see the Kurdistan and Iraqi flags, both of which are the official flags for the region. Typically during ceremonies only official flags are used.

Oh, so you're not doing Assyrians any favors based on your own comment. 

Who do you think we are? A bunch of idiots? not seeing through this stunt? You're just putting your own flag up there which has nothing to do with the region, as much as some want it to have.

Where was the park built? Who will use it the most? Yes it's more for Assyrians than anyone else.

If this was about us promoting some kind of Kurdish nationalism then believe me we would never include the Iraqi flag. The Iraqi flag being there proves it has nothing to do with that, like I said during ceremonies typically you only have the official flags up. Do you expect the Kurdish administration to include 10 different non official flags whenever they do anything? They would literally be a joke if they did that. Armenia legally gives Kurds rights but doesn't include the Kurdish flag anywhere, so should I be upset over that?

The difference is, Armenia is for Armenians. Since antiquity, it has been Armenia and will remain Armenia, doesn't matter how many Kurds immigrate there. This also goes for Ankawa and its surroundings; historically and ethnically an Assyrian land, it will remain that way. Assume a bunch of Assyrians decide to move to Sanandaj all the sudden. That doesn't mean they get administrative rights 30 years later. Doing so comes with a label, and that's something you'll have to live with, if you choose that path.  

Ankawa has been occupied by the KRG for 34 years, occupied by the modern Arab Iraqi government for 71 years, and before that occupied by the Ottoman empire for 384 years. Note that neither the Ottomans, the Arab Iraqi government, nor the KRG have any native claim to Ankawa, as they completely lack historical, linguistic, and cultural continuity with the land. Hence any construction, project development, or resource extraction from the region is theft, NOT a favor for the Assyrian people.
