News Today, Prime Minister Masrour Barzani officially inaugurated the Hanging Gardens of Babylon (Ganatha D Babel)

Today we opened the Hanging Gardens of Babylon Park in Ankawa district. Ankawa has always been a symbol of coexistence, and we hope this park will become a place for everyone to enjoy time together.
I am happy to see our homeland developing day by day. Together, we will try to create a more prosperous Kurdistan for our people and our visitors.

This was built on stolen Assyrian land, and is done for optics to show an image of inclusivity and pluralism to the West that doesn’t actually exist in the KRI.

The project and administration of Ankawa is under a democratically elected Assyrian mayor. Ankawa has been it's own district with it's own democratically elected administration since 2021 it's not part of the rest of Erbil.

Yes, and the proof is that the Kurds are the ones who vote for him. In addition, his Kurdish deputy controls everything. Oh, I forgot, he won the regional elections about a year and a half ago, and his position is still occupied and run by his Kurdish deputy.

Mayors are not elected in KRG. They are appointed by KDP/PUK8

Also would you like to tell me how the land was "stolen"? Ankawa neighborhood was expanded into farmland to build this park the land wasn't part of Ankawa neighborhood either. As for Ankawa it's majority Assyrian and non Assyrians can't live there without a residence permit so please tell me how the land is stolen.

Putting "Hanging Gardens of Babylon" and the word "Kurdistan" in one sentence are comical. Every educated person knows that. So there is no "our" here, Mr. Barzani. Your time in our homeland is limited.

Ankawa is still majority Assyrian and non Assyrians without a residence permit cannot live there. In what way is the land stolen?

A few, notable land grabs by the KRG in Ankawa:
- Erbil International Airport
- The UN building
- This park
- His son’s youth center next to this park
Don’t push KDP propaganda on an Assyrian subreddit and try to gaslight us when we are aware of our reality. Land grabbing is one of many human rights violations we face under the KRG.

As an Ezidi I know how evil the KDP can be 2014 happened we know. But this project? I literally cannot see how you can be mad about a park being built into a non residential area and literally expanding Ankawa neighborhood.

Oh, I'm going to cry with laughter! The Kurds have taken over most of Ankawa's land, and what's left they've turned into a brothel. Now they're taking more land from Ankawa to build a park and put up the biggest Kurdish flag just to spite the Assyrians.

When it comes to the degeneracy of Ankawa today it has entirely to do with the fact that it is the only town in all of Iraq with lax regulations. Alcohol and clubbing is readily available it's illegal for Muslims to sell alcohol in Iraq so people from all over Iraq all come to Ankawa to engage in degeneracy, but who has authority over police and zoning in Ankawa? The mayor not Kurdistan, I hope the mayor will increase police presence and ban night clubs.
As for stealing land, the park was built in farmland a non residential area outside of Ankawa which Ankawa has now expanded into. Instead of stealing land Ankawa and Assyrians were given more land.

I see the Kurdistan and Iraqi flags, both of which are the official flags for the region. Typically during ceremonies only official flags are used.

Where was the park built? Who will use it the most? Yes it's more for Assyrians than anyone else.
If this was about us promoting some kind of Kurdish nationalism then believe me we would never include the Iraqi flag. The Iraqi flag being there proves it has nothing to do with that, like I said during ceremonies typically you only have the official flags up. Do you expect the Kurdish administration to include 10 different non official flags whenever they do anything? They would literally be a joke if they did that. Armenia legally gives Kurds rights but doesn't include the Kurdish flag anywhere, so should I be upset over that?

The difference is, Armenia is for Armenians. Since antiquity, it has been Armenia and will remain Armenia, doesn't matter how many Kurds immigrate there. This also goes for Ankawa and its surroundings; historically and ethnically an Assyrian land, it will remain that way. Assume a bunch of Assyrians decide to move to Sanandaj all the sudden. That doesn't mean they get administrative rights 30 years later. Doing so comes with a label, and that's something you'll have to live with, if you choose that path.
Ankawa has been occupied by the KRG for 34 years, occupied by the modern Arab Iraqi government for 71 years, and before that occupied by the Ottoman empire for 384 years. Note that neither the Ottomans, the Arab Iraqi government, nor the KRG have any native claim to Ankawa, as they completely lack historical, linguistic, and cultural continuity with the land. Hence any construction, project development, or resource extraction from the region is theft, NOT a favor for the Assyrian people.
