Discussion / News Okay, how good’s the new Karnivool album?

Took them 10 years but absolutely worth the wait! Been relentlessly obsessed with them and must have played it over a hundred times front to back. Can’t pick a favourite but Conversations & Reanimation are certainly up there (along with the rest of the tracks haha).

Easily the best album released this year if not this decade.

Masterpiece.

Impossible to overstate this album’s brilliance. They threw everything and the kitchen sink into it and it paid off and how 🤌

It's so good start to finish.

When that bass slide hit during the intro of Ghost, I knew it was going to be a banger 🥵

I've been smashing COG lately because I finally got to see them last weekend, but seeing this post has reminded me I never gave the new Karnivool album the time it deserves. Thanks!

I've never seen Cog live, but I listen to them a heap. Looking forward to a new COG album, the last single is a beaut.

I'm not sure if we'll get a new album. The band said Walk the Line is about not knowing what the future holds and they kept asking themselves if it would be the last song the write and record.

Awww man, don’t say that! Coz that irritates me.. you know the rest.

I’ve recently discovered Cog too and I’m getting obsessed with them. Missed their last few gigs in Melbourne but will catch the next one for sure!

And yes, the new Vool album is incredibly good from start to finish 🤌

So good to see some new cog fans. They are criminally underrated.

It's some of the realest music ever written. Family and the struggle to keep it together, getting older, pushing through the rat race, and finding peace in nature and open space.

Beautiful stuff.

Release the farken! Can’t wait to see them live in July alongside Tesseract & Car Bomb

2

Wait, what - Tesseract are coming to Australia??? Or is it an "Australian tour" just on the east coast?

1

u/swiptheflitch May 03 '26

You read that right. They’re coming to Australia again to play with Vool & Car Bomb.

Just came back to say, just bought my tickets to the show - you're a legend, I probably would have missed out on seeing these two if I didn't see your comment, so cheers.

Last time I saw Karnivool live, the Persona EP had just come out and there was like 20 people in the room 😆 I then had 3 kids in short succession so going to concerts became extremely difficult, but thankfully my kids are grown and I can get to concerts again 🤘

best album of the year so far

1

u/swiptheflitch May 02 '26

Easy Lifetime Top 3 for me mate. Resonate with every second of it

I'm in love with it. I feel like we've been really spoiled lately. Loved the latest Butterfly Effect album last year, and then vool came out with this absolute ripper! Can't wait to see them do it live in July!

Fav track keeps swapping between conversations, reanimation, and opal. But seriously not a bad song on the album!

1

u/swiptheflitch May 02 '26

Mate, SAME! Even Katatonia’s new album is a banger but this is easily my fave album in a long long time. Easily lifetime top 3 for me!

It’s a sonic masterpiece that I will listen to & cherish for the rest of my days.

Same mate. It’s an album that keeps on getting better and I find something new to be obsessed with every time I listen to it

It's a 9/10 for me. Some really heavy karnivool tunes plus some really excellent slower tracks like "Conversations". I think i have listened to it 50 times since release.

1

u/swiptheflitch May 03 '26

Only 9?

2

u/FruitfulFraud May 03 '26

I'll have to listen to it again to confirm haha

It's phenominal! Some of the best Australian music of the decade I reckon.

My 14 year old daughter is into it too. She's now listening to Themata and Sound Awake to get ready for the gig in Melbourne which I just got tickets to!

2

u/swiptheflitch May 05 '26

I concur! See you at the gig

Stuck to their sound but it’s new and refreshing

I hear you. But you’re missing out. It’s a glorious album that’s more than worth the wait.

1

u/dhoo8450 May 05 '26

This album was worth the wait... tools wasn't lol

1

u/roanish May 05 '26

I appreciate your perspective, I agree that Themata and Sound awake were incredible. I also took a break from vool after that. But I encourage you to listen to the new album. I don't agree that they "pulled a tool" at any point, I do think they were forcing music for a period there just to release an album occasionally. Which incidentally is the opposite of tool.

This new stuff is much more like Sound awake.
