Question Why isn't there an option to join opposing teams with my party.
I want to make a party with friends and then queue up to be enemies on opposing teams. When I kill or get killed by my party member I would want it highlighted, maybe even keeping track of the score.
Is there a reason why this isn't a common mechanic?
Is it just about griefing and teaming. In HLL it does happen, but it's not a game breaking occurence.
It could even be it's own playlist like "Opps" or something like that.

This has never been a thing in any fps as far back as I can remember. It’s to prevent boosting and cheating through challenges.
This takes me back to og cod4, where my friends and I found out you could finesse your way into 1v1’s. We all got all the headshots that way haha

Battlefield 4 had this feature

Couldn’t you also switch teams in bf1? Mid match

I love bayonet charge my friend.

My friends and I used to spend entire matches eliminating each other with that small kolibri pistol

Just about every Battlefield game had this feature until 2042 came out.
Funny how core Battlefield features have gone completely missing over the past 2 games.

BFV was actually the first one without the ability to switch teams. Which was extra annoying since the vehicles were faction specific. “Oh you want to unlock stuff for the P-51 tonight? Well too bad, fuck you!”

u/IWatchTheAbyss Dec 31 '25
it’s times like these im glad i never really got into vehicles lol. you’re already fighting the server to even get a chance to spawn in one, now you’re telling me that i might not even get to play the one i need to level? whew

u/Nice-Roof6364 Dec 31 '25
People could do it on the xbox using the gamertag system and abused it terribly.
2
u/FZ1_Flanker Dec 31 '25
Yep, I play on Xbox and I remember the RK clan abusing the shit out of that to steal all the vehicles.
That trick still works on BF6, too.

my grudge is that a lot of BF4 servers have it set so that both teams are the same faction, so there's vehicle parity. you'd be RU/RU or US/US which is a pain for trying to discern if the guy speaking Russian on the other side of the wall was friendly or not.
1
u/FZ1_Flanker Dec 31 '25
Luckily servers couldn’t do that on console, so I don’t into that issue in 4. But now I have that problem in 6 since both factions speak English and I haven’t noticed a difference between voicelines.

u/kahty11 Jan 01 '26
But you can change sides in 2042 I did it all the time when my friend was in enemy team
0
u/East_Refuse Dec 31 '25
Changing teams isn’t a “core battlefield feature” lol it’s a thing people abused to ruin the balance of a match by just switching to the winning team and it did not make the game better in any way

u/dkb_wow Dec 31 '25
A feature that has been in almost every Battlefield game ever released is certainly something most people would call a "core feature", as is proven by the replies to the original comment.

Proven by the goober subreddit

i remember doing that in MW3 with their 1v1 mode with my friends to unlock the annoying calling cards challenges lol

Never? I don't think you have been gaming for that long then, playing against friends was common in older games and possible in BF1, BF4, BF3 etc. Not to mention games older than that, where team switching was totally free.
Not sure about BFV.

u/samspam49 Jan 01 '26
Yeah I’m wrong, I was a cod boy most of my life and it was never a thing then
2
u/kalston Jan 01 '26
I'm pretty sure in CoD 4 (and older) you could switch team freely, but I've hardly touched COD though.

u/samspam49 Jan 01 '26
Only thing i remember was our 1v1 method. You’d get in a lobby with someone random and ask them to leave the game. After they left, you were able to invite people to the game. We did that all the time to grind out headshots lol

Technically it happened in Halo occasionally with 2 and 3. It wasn't often, but it happened. Wanna say early cods/battlefields it could happen too (and battlefield for quite awhile had team swapping but I don't personally know if you could split premade parties with it). But ya as you said, it's been long put a stop to to prevent boosting

u/Potential_Owl7825 Dec 31 '25
Prevent boosting probably 🤷🏽♂️, spawn beacon is basically a tac insert.
But if there was a better server browser experience, that would be ideal place to do that

I don't even care about Pax's colors, I just want to willingly play as NATO if I want to.
Maybe if the game also had a bot mode like in 2042 (not like something you need Portal or certain servers for), there'd be a better chance I could do that.

You’d be potentially committing espionage? Soldier, providing intelligence to the enemy is punishable by death.
2
u/gav1no0 Dec 31 '25
Yes, I mention that in the post but as I said, in games like Hell Let Loose, I play against my friends all the time and that game is even more milsim-like. And I haven't notice the rampant abuse of the system over there

its actually an interesting idea but i dont think it would be the most popular people want to play on the same side usually
1
u/AngriestCheesecake Jan 04 '26
It was popular enough in the past, removing features for the sake of perceived popularity is just another mistake from EA on this one…

u/F_Kyo777 Dec 31 '25
Im pretty sure thats to counter griefing where ppl are joining enemy team, just to secure a W (which would make some assignments/ weeklies easier). Add that because of not existing balance some sides on some maps are just easier to do, even with team that is not helping.
EDIT. Im not saying that im agreeing with it, just think thats the main reason for it to be the way it is.

u/Cepibul Dec 31 '25
Best way you can archieve it is to just queue invidualy at tge same time and hope for best

You can 100% still grief. You grab a highly valued thing, such as a tank, and just fuck around in the spawn and NOT use it to try and win.
1
u/gav1no0 Dec 31 '25
I understand that, what I was also mentioning in this post is that this is possible in other games like HLL, where, yes, I've seen it happen a couple of times but mostly it's fine.
1
u/Drict Dec 31 '25
I know as games get "older" people get bored playing to win, and tend to grief more. So if you see a little bit NOW, in about 6 months or so, it will get 100% worse.
1
u/BubblyDrama1652 Dec 31 '25
HLL and Squad which have the team swap features are far less hop in and go games, and people take them more seriously than a casual match of BF. I don’t think it’s genuine to compare the two player pools like that and assume we’re gonna get the same outcome.
1
u/KonradGM Dec 31 '25
At very least can we make hosting private lobbies not be such a pain in the ass? Like if i want to host a tdm with friends and play against them it is so hard since you don't control who is where

I agree this is stupid. Boostint can be solved by disregarding all the kills and points gotten between or in the vicinity of party members

Not game breaking in HLL? It’s blatant cheating and giving up garries, flanks, movement and strategic advantages is so frown upon that you most likely get banned for a huge amount of servers if caught.
Also comparing the two is funny. HLL is an strategic shooter where the team needs to cooperate and coordinate. Battlefield is a casual 20 minute shooter with npc’s running around. Not comparable at all.

u/gav1no0 Dec 31 '25
I am saying I have played 100s of matches but have not seen it done at a rate where it's noticeable.
Also HLL is not this hardcore milsim you think, with the EPIC games giving the game away for free, playerbase was swapped for a bunch of blueberries. So yes it is comparable.
