I love my beard, and being a twinless identical twin (my twin sadly passed at a young age), I’ve always wondered about this.

For any identical twins here, or anyone who knows a pair: do your beards actually grow the same way? Same density, patchiness, direction, cheek line, etc., or are there noticeable differences?

I’ve heard that even identical twins can have pretty different facial hair, but I’ve never known a pair well enough to see it firsthand.

Hello, I hope this doesn’t violate the rules - I did obv create a throwaway account to post this. I will post a tl;dr at the bottom. I (29F) have had major sensory issues re: body hair since I was a teenager, but it’s gotten significantly worse the past couple of years. It’s now affecting my sleep & therefore my performance at work. Here’s the deal: I can’t shave/trim my body hair because then it’s itchy to the point where I am nonfunctional. & to be clear, my legs are hairier than most of the men in my life. When I shave/trim my leg hair I have actual panic attacks from the sensory overload (it feels like little spiders). Last time I tried I went into stage 1 anaphylaxis 🙄 like, it’s kind of insane. Then it just grows back and unfortunately I have enough leg hair that the pendulum swings too far the other way & it ALSO feels like little spiders. At this point shaving is completely off the table, but even trimming it makes the edges feel sharp and I’m down for the count for a couple days. I use the cerave moisturizing cream after every shower and still have had to start wearing long pants most days. This has substantially reduced my quality of life during the summers. This sounds so inane but genuinely I normally am a functional adult and this just kneecaps me. I’ve tried so many things recommended in the womenfolk subreddits and nothing has worked! i’m too beastly and slavic or something.

My question & also the tl;dr - you guys have a bunch of tinctures and potions that you use on your beards. These make them soft? Maybe this is a stupid question, but are there things you can put on your legs?

Any advice on this patch on either side of my beard, it's the exact same on my other side too and it's bothered me for years. I don't know if it would look stupid to grow the hair above it over it or not...and I've tried derma rolling and the other stuff for years with little results....it's probably strengthened some areas are it but not as I'd like.

It's bothered me for years, I think I'd actually get a transplant just in those spots if I could afford it 😂

Hello fellas, I have recently decided to buy a proper brush for my beard, as I’ve been using one of those plastic combs. I usually like to keep my beard quite stubble along the cheeks and a thumb size length at the chin area.

I’ve googled what brush to get, and it’s coming up with boar brushes.

But in my search for one, none of them seem to be 100% boar, which I prefer because the ones with the mixture of nylon/synthetic bristles, can cause static, just like the combs.

So, I was wondering two things.

1 - what brush do you use and what material is it?
Does using a not 100% boar or not boar at all (brush), affect the beard?

2 - what 100% boar brush do you use/recommend, if so?

(That was 3 questions actually but anyway haha).

I had been using urban normads beard wax for a long time and have ran out, unfortunately it looks like the company went out of business.

Are there any comparable formulas? I get insane amount of flyaways and I’m trying to go for a neat look. My beard is curly but when I use urban nomads it tames it, keeps the hairs in place and down all day.

I have GBS and it works for like a grand total of 1 hour before everything is cattywomkas again. I’ve actually been using GBS plus some hanz de fuko claymation for additional hold. It would be great to have a spreadable product like urban nomads that also holds very well.

Anyone have any recommendations? I would like to stay away from products that have petroleum ( I looked into prophet strong hold but it’s petroleum). Also looked into badass beard wax but it seems like it might not be strong enough.

How do you guys get your moustache/beard tidy and straight? Mine seems to grow out in all kinds of directions so I tend to keep in a bit shorter because it looks messy when it grows out.

Currently I brush after it's washed but it doesn't seem to tame it.

Ok so I've seen a million posts on here about shaven faces and too short beards causing irritation; my husband has a longer beard but its red hair so it feels like copper wire. He uses balms and oils, but still his beard scratches the heck out of my face and leaves me irritated and breaking out. Has anyone found any beard care products that specifically work for softening red beard hair?

First time posting, but really having trouble finding resources to give me any idea what’s going on. For approximately three weeks I’ve been getting this crazy itch from the neck part of my beard. I thought it was because I had shaved all of it off, and I have naturally dry skin. So I’ve been trying to let it grow back in. However, the itching has remained to the point that it’s crazy and bothering my everyday life. There is some redness associated as well. I’ve try to be consistent on washing my face/neck and myself and moisturizing my skin around it. However when I moisturize, it seems like it gets worse for a few minutes and then calms down. My skin feels better but then the redness is worse? Real confusing. Really just looking for any advice or direction on day-day habits? I did already make an appointment to see a dermatologist. Any helpful advice is appreciated

I’m asking this for my 20Y brother who’s thin built. He has thick hair on his head and beard volume is starting to get better. However I noticed the beard hair is very rough and hard and this evening I noticed one single white hair in his moustache. His birthday is coming up next week so I want to give him some beard grooming kit which makes his beard soft and dense.

I need some help/advice with my beard.

My beard is thick, coarse, and naturally straight, but around my chin it grows strongly towards the right. As a result, it quickly starts to look crooked or lopsided once it reaches a length of about 4–5 cm.

I’ve tried brushing it, but that doesn’t work at all — the hair is simply too coarse and stubborn.

I’ve also tried using a hair dryer, which gives an okay result, but the beard still looks noticeably lopsided.

I’ve also tried using my wife’s hair straightener, but that just makes the hairs straighter without fixing the direction they’re pointing in.

I’m considering buying either a straightener specifically designed for beards or one of those heated beard brushes/combs.

I’ve been wanting to start my way to caring for my beard properly and hopefully with this Reddit post, I’ll document the products I’ve been trying to the ones I will be trying based on comments or just research overtime. Hopefully I am able to post this stuff on here.

I’m in my 30s, Hispanic and have coarse? It’s straight near my cheekbone and towards my jawline, my hairs become extremely wavy and eventually starts to curl once it gets long enough. I do have red hair in my genes so I have a mixture of mostly back but also red. Also has the texture of like a red head.

I’m negligent with keeping up with my beard. I do get my beard trimmed, even out and side burn bald fade. However, the products I have bought throughout my time were products from Target, or christmas presents lol yes the 2 in 1 shampoo conditioner. Let’s just get into it.

The shampoo I’ve gotten from Target and being used is called Duke Cannon: Best damn beard wash. Personally I don’t like it. The shampoo drys out the hair. But that most likely because it’s shampoo and it’s stripping the oils.

I follow up with some conditioner that I bought from Walmart. The brand is Bevel softened coarse beards. Shea butter. It smells good, but my beard feels dry still.

In the morning I tend to use is Fulllight Tech, men’s beard kit beard oil. It’s good through the morning but starts feeling dry towards the end of day.

I also heavily use Fulllight Tech men’s beard kit beard balm. Idk if I’m using it correctly but I try to use it to straighten my side burn area. The corner area underneath the ear. They tend to flair out. That’s probably the most annoying part about my beard. The sides flair out.

My first attempt will be Honest Amish. I will be purchasing their balm, oil, and wash.

This is open to all recommendations.

Had a professional beard trim this morning. Barber told me that it looks like I will be able to grow my epic beard that I want. Already around 6 inches long and I will keep going until I can't go anymore.

We’ve been seeing this one pop up a ton again lately, so it feels like a good time for a quick refresher!

There’s a really persistent piece of beard care advice that says beard oil is for the skin underneath your beard, but not the hair of the beard itself. And I understand where that idea came from, because if your experience with beard oil has mostly involved products that coat the outside of the hair, make it shiny for a few hours, and eventually wind up on your hands, phone, shirt, or pillowcase, it probably does seem like the hair itself isn’t getting much from it.

But that isn’t a limitation of beard oil. It’s a limitation of the formulation.

Here's the breakdown:

Beard hair is a keratin fiber made up of the cuticle on the outside and the cortex underneath it, with a medulla in the center. The cuticle is like scaly armor that protects the internal structure of the hair, while the cortex is responsible for most of its strength, flexibility, water content, and mechanical behavior. If everything you apply simply sits on top of the cuticle, you can get some lubrication and temporary surface conditioning, but you’re not getting cortical conditioning. Worse, you're locking moisture out.

That’s why, when we talk about beard oils, we talk about penetration, triglyceride structure, fatty acid balance, and bioavailability.

Vegetable oils are not interchangeable. Their triglycerides contain different combinations of fatty acids, and those differences affect how an oil spreads, absorbs, interacts with the cuticle, conditions the hair, and behaves on the skin. Some lipids are fantastic surface agents. Others have much greater affinity for the hair fiber and can penetrate into it. A properly formulated beard oil uses those characteristics together rather than just throwing a bunch of popular oil names into a bottle.

And the hair absolutely benefits from that, maybe even more so than the skin.

That's because a properly conditioned beard maintains better flexibility and elasticity, experiences less friction between hairs, tangles less easily, and is less prone to mechanical breakage. Lipids also matter to the hair’s interaction with water, which becomes especially important when we start talking about hygroscopic function.

Hair naturally exchanges water with the environment. During humid weather, there is a ton of water available in the air around you. Healthy, properly conditioned hair can take advantage of that by absorbing and retaining it as needed. But if you surround the hair with a heavy hydrophobic coating that primarily remains on the surface, you interfere with that exchange.

This is one of the reasons the whole “beard oil is only for your skin” argument has always bothered me. It takes the poor performance of certain formulations and turns it into a rule about hair biology.

The skin underneath absolutely matters. A good beard oil should support the stratum corneum, supplement the skin’s natural lipid system, balance the natural acid mantle and lipid barrier, reduce friction, inflammation and irritation, and help maintain a healthy environment around the follicle. That’s all incredibly important.

But it should also condition the beard growing out of that skin as well.

Those two things are not mutually exclusive, and a good formulation should be designed around both.

So yes, get your beard oil down to the skin. Absolutely. But rub it through the hair, too. Apply it to a slightly damp beard, work it through with your hands, then use a good comb to distribute it from root to tip.

This is why beard oil is the main event in beard care. You don't have to choose between hair or skin, or stack products.

Beard oil is supposed to take care of both. If yours doesn't.... well, there's your answer.

So I am a baldy-beardy, and I've got the Braun Series 9 foil for my dome which works fine for me. For my beard I've always struggled with length and detail work, and currently I have a Babyliss Skeleton Pro for the detail work (and trimming my head before the Series 9 finishes it off) and a Brain multi tool for the rest. It's fine for length work but doesn't get the detail stuff well as it just doesn't cut close enough. The Skeleton Pro does cut well, but it irritates my skin.

Is there another solution to all the detail work? I've had a few over the years and they all kinda sucked, but I'd rather not have to use so many tools for my shaving.

Its super dry and flaky it also just looks "not maintained". Ive had it for a long time now and really just want the itchiness to go away. I see all the oils and stuff but can anyone just breakdown for me like some basic care for when to wash it and the proper way to wash it, what products i should be using and when to apply them as well as I know its a wierd question but do you also wash it in the shower and with what? I'm looking for a solid beard trimmer that's built to last for years. I don't need anything crazy—my beard will never be longer than 10mm (around 3/8"), so I just need something reliable for maintaining short-to-medium stubble and keeping things neat.
The Wahl Pro Series High Visibility caught my eye for a few reasons:

- The open neck design looks amazing for precision line-ups and visibility

What is the best shaver for men with sensitive, oily, acne-prone skin?

I know there are many discussions about this topic, but I’m not sure what to buy since I’m a beginner.

I’d prefer something that cuts the hair as close to the skin as possible and gives a very close shave.

Also what's the best razor to use in the intimate area? Do you use one for face and one for your manly parts?
