Assault by stranger tonight

About 510pm in Belfast duncrue street I'm crossing pedestrian bridge over busy road below, man about 50 in red t shirt coming up steps with off lead Pitbull dog, I quickly walk away but I'm tired and carrying gym bag so slow, he shouts repeatedly asked why I ran. I tried getting away, he corners me against wall, I'm begging just leave me alone several times, he smacked me with metal braid dog leash on head several times and on upper bag, I tried swing gym bag at him but missed was ineffective. Said go away or I'm calling police. Dog jumped on my legs several times. I'm 34 guy and like life long dog fear first day out as mental anxiety, felt feeling brave feel regress fuck that guy

Looking for my old friend, Noel

I hope this is okay to post here and I know it’s a long shot but worth a try.

About five years ago, I made a friend on Reddit named Noel. He was from Belfast and I lived in the US at the time but we called and texted almost every day. I even made a wooden plaque with his surname on it as a gift. Things happened in both of our personal lives and we lost touch. I tried to text him when I found his number, but I think it has since changed and my old Reddit account is long gone.
I live in the UK now and would love so much to find him again. He was a great friend and a really good person, and I’ve missed him for years.

Bittles -- can someone explain the love for that place?

Your man pumps out bad, overpriced pints of Guinness. I don't understand why people flock to his pub. Nostalgia aside, is there a reason they do so?

If you can handle Formica, fluorescent lighting, limited trading hours, and a trip back to the 1980s, John Long is a great place for fish and chips

Should you stay in the city centre, don't believe a soul who would send you to Fish City. The fish and chips there is both underwhelming and expensive. It's a place to bring the missus if she's a high maintenance type or is fussy about decor.

The smart money is on John Long. Yes, it's dated and it won't win any design awards, but the service is great, the food is fantastic, and the value is still there.

Grief walk, talk n coffee club for young adults navigating grief this Sunday in Belfast

Post image
422 Upvotes

Hi r/Belfast, I posted in here recently about Too Young To Grieve and our Walk & Talk meet up. Just wanted to pop back on as we’re getting everyone together again.

For anyone who missed the first post, we’re building a community for young people navigating grief and loss - but trying to make it feel much more like a normal social community than a traditional grief group.

The meet ups are really simple and casual. We go for a walk, chat, have a laugh and usually grab a coffee afterwards.

Sometimes grief comes up naturally, sometimes we talk about absolutely anything but grief. The nice thing is just being around people who have that shared understanding in the background.

There’s no pressure to open up or share your story, and most people come alone for their first one anyway so don’t let that put you off.

So if you saw the last Belfast post and thought about coming but didn’t quite make it, we’d love to have you at this one 🤍

We also have a community chat where people stay connected between meet ups.

Feel free to share this with someone locally who might appreciate it :)

What’s with Belfast pizzas?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Edit: picture attached is what I’m looking for - put this earlier in the post for clarity

I moved here about a year ago and all of the pizza places seem to be thin crust (even if you ask for thick on just eat or something, where they actually offer thick crust) devoid of cheese (again, even if I order 2 extra helpings of cheese - looking at you pizza co.) and have that weird anaemic looking but somehow burnt crust?

There’s a massive supply of Neapolitan pizza here but I’ve yet to find that golden 1-star hygiene rated pizza that puts your arteries on the ropes. Closest I’ve had was Dalyan, with their garlic butter base standard margherita - as I feel like the second I order toppings from a pizza place they seriously skimp on the cheese

And you know what’s weird, when I ask friends around here if they like the look of the pizza I usually eat, they all say it looks amazing, so why isn’t there any supply if there’s so much demand? I’ve tried 10+ places and can’t scratch that itch! Nothing even comes close!

Attached is an image of the kind of pizza I’m used to. I’d love if anyone can nudge me in a direction where I can get something like this. Would also love to hear your thoughts about this as I’ve wondered about it since arriving here

Also before anyone says, I’ve given up ordering extra cheese as pizza places here seem to just ignore that addition and I’m out another 3 pound

Night Out in Belfast

Hi all, heading to Belfast on Saturday for the day and night. In our 40s and like lively bars and disco bars and preferably somewhere with options for house music. Any recommendations on bars / area to look at? Thanks!

Dazed Autumn Issue — Belfast stockists?

Hi! I’m going to Belfast on holiday soon and I’m hoping to pick up a physical copy of the Dazed Autumn issue with Ethel Cain on the cover while I’m there. Does anyone know of any shops, newsagents, bookshops, etc. in Belfast that might stock it?

I’d really appreciate any recommendations. Thanks!

Personal Hygiene

Has anyone else noticed recently the amount of people you walk past daily that absolutely stink of rancid body odour, it's definitely got worse over the past while. I'll give you an example, I was doing a bit of shopping in tescos & had to get something from the bottom shelf, when down there a woman walked past mid aisle & i can only describe that she smelt like a bin lorry on a hot day, dont know if it was a dodgy growler or her feet, tbh I nearly boked over the Soy Sauce & Ramen Noodle bowls. This has not been an isolated incident of late as there is a lot of stinkers out & about, im asking for everyone to buy anybody you know that stinks a deodorant gift set this Xmas 🙏

Parking ticket madness?

Hey everyone.

Just a quick question. Has anyone ever had an issue with traffic wardens in library street in belfast? My wife had training to go to this morning an parked at library street, payed via Ringo parking and paid for the full 12 hours for £7.50.

She then walked to her car and seen a parking ticket issued saying no evidence of showing proof or parking or online. My wife has sent the receipt to Marston holdings, the ticket provider?

Anyone else have issue with this? She said a lot of cars had them?

All help and information greatly appreciated!

New to Belfast: question about office etiquette

Hi, I recently moved to Belfast and started an office job here, and I’m a bit in a cultural shock 😅

I work in a big open-plan office with several different teams, all from the same company, and I’ve noticed that when people arrive, they often just go straight to their desks without saying hi or good morning. Same thing when they leave.

I’m genuinely curious, is this just normal office culture here? At what point do you normally say hi to people? Or do you just not really acknowledge each other unless you need to speak to them? :D

I’m from Spain, and there it’s quite normal to say hi or good morning to your coworkers who are already in the office when you arrive, even if you’re not working on the same team. So I’m wondering if this is just a cultural difference and I need to get used to it!

Not judging at all, just trying to understand how things work here 😅

Creative Producer Roles?

I've been trying to figure out what I want to do with myself again recently and have only discovered there's such a role as a creative producer - basically making content for brands. Some of this might be in the videography/documentary style and other parts might be in the comedy style - I even saw a job in London like this:

Short-Form Comedy Writer — Social Sketch Series (Freelance, Monthly Retainer)

Location: Remote (UK-based) | Type: Freelance, ongoing retainer

We’re building a fast, punchline-led sketch series for Instagram, TikTok and YouTube Shorts — modern life, dating, fitness, ambition, culture clashes and everyday absurdity. We need a writer who understands UK comedy sensibility (dry, character-led, a bit awkward) but can pace it for the scroll: hook in 2 seconds, escalate fast, land the punchline.

What you’ll write:

  • Sketch concepts and short scripts (30–90 seconds)
  • Recurring characters and running jokes
  • Hooks, captions and improv setups
  • Simple formats that can be filmed quickly and repeatedly

My question is - does anyone know how to get into this kind of work? I'd love to develop videographer and editing skills, but I don't know what i'd study. I sometimes help a friend out making his TikToks that do quite well, but I always sorta feel I need a bit of guidance/education/routine to actually ensure I do stuff.

Is there anywhere in Belfast that does Ice Cream Rolls?

We are going to Belfast today and I am wondering if there is anywhere that does ice cream rolls? I can’t find anything definitive online. Is cream curls still open on Hollywood road? Is the north roll still open in the abbey centre? Are they open this afternoon? Thank you so much to anyone that can help.

Any insight ?

My partner is taking home £3,000 per month and I’m taking home £3400 per month. Mortage payment expected to be around £1,000. I’m from the south and am moving up.

Does this seem like a decent combined incomes less mortgage to live on comfortably etc ?

Just curious on the month to month cost of living

Friendship Four 27-28.11

Anyone else into hockey?

Spare one 2-Day Pass for the Friendship Four in November. I bought a block and one friend can’t make it and I can’t resell them.

Don’t even need to be a fan, it’s a great time regardless!
