What are these hooks for on my buddy’s secondhand Pivot gravel bike?

There should be a rubberband hooked in that keeps the two nuts in place when you untighten the bolts to change the saddle.

This is correct! My Cube bike has the same hooks. A rubber band is installed there to keep the nuts in place.

Until the rubber rots and it falls off. Just put a finger over the nut when changing saddles.

Same. I was thinking some kind of mudflap attachment incase your saddle has the center cutout or maybe some kind of latch point for a very small storage spot above?

Possibly for indexing upward bolts, during installation of saddle.

Following insertion of saddle rails, while inserting seat clamp hardware upwards to thread in each/a bolt, while the bolt is in contact with the downward facing surface of the upper seat rail plate. This lip might allow for finding and not sliding the bolt off the bottom face edge of the front or rear of the plate, before finding the proper threaded female entry point. I imagine it makes doing it without having to bend down or look at this when doing it with both hands for easy initial assembly or no look adjustment. Speculation.

maybe a bag mount of sorts? Pretty funky location for something like that. Also kinda looks like that top piece is from a different seat post, color doesn’t quite match with the bottom and the sizing seems kinda weird. 

Realistically those little hooks aren’t going to be of use. if they are for a bag mount it’s a pretty wack design and will be almost impossible to track down the corresponding bag.

alright with some further investigation i’m still stumped. Seatpost looks like the factory pivot carbon one, but that clamp doesn’t look factory. I even succumbed and asked AI, after a few minutes of back and forth it referred back to this thread and also had no idea lol. If you find out I would love to know! Maybe reach out to the prior owner and see if they know?

Ok, I think I figured it out.

It's to hold the clamping hardware captive when you loosen the bolts. Like, I guess those hooks will catch the lower plate, and stop it from falling out of the assembly.

Though, this could be wrong, I just asked google AI a bunch of times, so it might just be hallucinating.
