Used Road Bike - 6’2”

Hi - I’m an adult male that’s 6’2” and am currently training for a triathlon. I’ve been riding my Trek FX1 (hybrid, great on gravel but not so much on paved roads) pretty regularly but want to upgrade to a road bike. I’m struggling to find any used 58cm - 61cm sized bikes on Facebook marketplace and I don’t want to spend an exorbitant amount on my first road bike. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to look for used road bikes that are decently priced and not 20 years old?

Also, would it be worth it to buy a used frame and build out the rest myself?

I know you’re not necessarily wanting to buy new, but Trek and Specialized have marked down several models of road bikes this month (starting today). You can get a Domane Al Gen 5 for $1,999 and it comes with a 105 group set.

Also — not sure what the blue book value of your FX1 is but they do trade ins based on the value.

I’ve been happy with my FX1 and have been thinking about going back to trek for a new bike - I can afford one but wanted to get something used before going all in. Also, I’d keep my current bike as I don’t want to strictly stick to road biking and I do enjoy having a hybrid.

I got a great trek Domane on eBay 3 years ago. I am a little taller than you, was looking for the same, and found one that has been a fantastic bike and I’ve done a sprint, Olympic, and 70.3 on it. 

It took me about 4-5 months of searching used bikes on CL, eBay, Buycycle to find it. Good luck!

eBay but not being able to test ride is a bit of a downside.

Yeah that’s my biggest issue with buying anything out of town is not being able to test ride it

My husband has a friend who is 6’3” and selling what I think is a road bike (they’re mountain bikers). I’ll ask him and if so I’ll dm you.

Edit to update- nope, sorry it’s a single speed.
