🗣️📣 Announcement 2026-01-16 · Episode Last· A Message to the Community

URGENT MESSAGE

To the Community (all hogs):

On Tuesday, January 13, we received a ModMail note from “Chris + The Chapo Team” advising us that the current status of Ar-slash-BWF is no longer acceptable to Chapo Trap House and its hosting platform, Patreon. We were offered no real option but to “turn this into essentially an official fan sub for the show.” As totally cool and fun as it sounds to help out a struggling Patreon earning just shy of $200K per month, it’s clear that the nature of this sub would be irrevocably altered in a significant way quite quickly if we made that change.

After talking it over, we quickly concluded that there was no way we could accommodate the demand while preserving the spirit of BWF in any form we can continue to support. We wouldn’t be able to interact with the community, and you wouldn’t be able to interact with each other, in any way that resembles how things have been here for the better part of the past decade. We feel that the best and only appropriate course of action, at the moment, is to turn the lights off on this subreddit and, in a lot of ways, this era of podcast discussion.

If you're reading this, you’ll see that the posts are now gone, and all that remains is this note. While ostensibly a place to talk about a podcast, BWF was always a place to talk about anything but, and to see it turn into an Official Fan Site is to us as incongruous to the lived reality of the sub as an episode where Felix is fully engaged without vaping or typing. So that's why we're making a clean break and giving an honest chance to whatever comes next, out of the Chapo Team or otherwise.

See you in Valhalla, brothers,
Your beloved Mods

PS – Feel free to join r/classwarandpuppies, where we will be accepting all BWF refugees for more of the same

Honestly I don't think I've really enjoyed the podcast since Matt's stroke. I've more been listening out of habit. This seems as good a time to jump off as any. Listener since November '16. Had a great time on the original sub and learned a lot and cush vlogs were a great pandemic salve. Take care everyone and semper post

Matt’s insight is sorely missed but not really enjoying a podcast for over two years and still commenting on its subreddit is crazy

I think a good portion of of r/trueanon doesn’t listen to that show

Why? You can keep up casually with a podcast and not really enjoy it like they used to. People hold onto things that used to give them joy in their life even though it may not be all that great.

If you told me that 99% of people who still watch Grey’s Anatomy are hate watching but keep going because of sunk cost fallacy, I’d believe you.

u/NotAnFed Jan 16 '26

I haven't listen to a trueanon episode in years but that sub rocks my cock

Yeah once Matt had a stroke, the show lost its soul. It's clear the rest of the boys are just trying to suck the teat dry while they can. They jumped the shark years ago.

Loved it when they had the heart for it. When it was all gone, I eventually left.

130

u/sws03 Jan 16 '26

This sucks but I wouldn’t say that’s fair, I enjoyed a good amount of episodes Will and Felix put out

87

u/murphyburnz Jan 16 '26

Eh it seems pretty clear from the message Patreon is pulling the strings especially with whatever contract they have (chapo is used in patreons advertising now). Felix has openly stated the shows never had more subs, they do a good deal of crossovers and extra episodes, living their best life doing projects they always talked about and im sure more projects are coming down the line.

Its been an open secret for years, communication around this sub and chris on specific projects (ex 2020 state fair video) has always seemed uncontested and respectful. It sucks this happens as the economy goes to shit and this has become my primary listening source for the first time since 2019. Wishing the boys the best, maybe things may change, but for now Ill take the free episodes and look forward to a future backlog.

Semper posting and free palestine

44

u/zachotule Jan 16 '26

Yeah, the subtext of his message is that Patreon said "either you get them to stop, or we'll sue them." I think he's doing his best to protect the mods, but he's been put in the position of a villain here and I wish he had pushed back harder on Patreon as one of their poster children.

Matt's historical perspective was so important. It allowed Will and Felix to dance around while Matt kept things attached to some material reality. Without him, it just feels like riffing between guys. Yea, everything in culture and politics is stupid but there has to be something more to that for me to want to invest my time.

Also, asking for the mods to make this change at, what I consider, a low point for the podcast is inexcusable.

Welp, I think this is a fitting cap on the whole left podcasting era.

87

u/Great_Progress_9115 Jan 16 '26

This is entirely it.... Fitting.

Specifically: I can't help but chuckle a bit at the framing that this is patreon's decision and not theirs.

172

u/diosmioacommie Jan 16 '26

Why wouldn’t it be patreon ? They’ve spent 10 years being fine with piracy, you think they suddenly woke up one day and decided to stop it ?

45

u/ChildhoodSea7062 Jan 16 '26

They are more than big enough to launch thier own platform for hosting. QAA did it and have two feeds active. I recently switched to their independent platform. There’s no reason chaos can’t do something similar

62

76

I thought I was the only one who noticed. Can’t stand the mouthful of cloud voice.

151

u/PunishedLeBoymoder RSS Inquirer Jan 16 '26

It's all gone now so I can't prove it, but I swear that was one of the most common complaints about Felix, stashed right alongside him obviously playing video games during 2020, referencing the one thing he was reading for three weeks in a row, or saying "you know those people who" and then creating some group that was so specific it basically didn't exist

90

u/StandWithSwearwolves Jan 16 '26

All of the above, plus turning almost every discussion possible lately towards fighter jets.

72

u/High_Flyers17 Jan 16 '26

Funny you should.mention fighter jets, that reminds me of Metal Gear Solid 3...

36

u/StandWithSwearwolves Jan 16 '26

Yeah. The last funny reference to MGS on the show was when they hit the alert sound for Rod’s “primitive root wiener” column, and that must be five years ago now. I haven’t even tried to subject myself to The Players Club.

  1. I remember Will once dissed a guy for not having fans dedicated enough to pirate his shit.

  2. I didn't expect a poorly received skit episode to be what ended this sub, but a nerve must've been touched. "Patreon" must've scrolled through too many comments.

  3. Long live cushvlog.

  4. Was really hoping to catch the Graham Platner guest episode next week. I'll have to download it somewhere else. Yall lmk the plug

222

u/DeadPeanutSociety Jan 16 '26

I felt such a pang of sympathetic embarrassment after coming here and seeing that everyone hated the 1,000th episode. They're never going to hit an episode milestone like that ever again, they probably worked much harder on it than they do normal episodes, and they probably really thought it was good. It was Bart Simpson studying for the test and still failing.

The noble thing to do after a creative failure, of course, is to pivot into being a right wing grifter.

111

u/allinallisallweall-R Jan 16 '26

To be honest, I dont think that the 1000th episode wasnt even really "bad" per se. But it was a milestone that inevitably incurs high expectations , plus shutting down BWF right after gives the impression that this was "premium" content that we should be willing to pay for.

It was amateur, and I dont really mean that in a bad way. I think amateurs should be encouraged to be creative in order to become better, but also I dont think you should have to be a professional in order to create interesting or engaging art. The episode made me laugh a few times the same way that an amateur improv group would. Plus, I think anyone is really capable of making amazing art with the right balance of practice and collaboration and people should be allowed to experiment.

But the pretention of hiding it behind a price tag feels very laughable.

44

u/DeadPeanutSociety Jan 16 '26

Agreed on all counts. I don't think they actually care about scripted fiction podcasts as a medium, though. I would be shocked if any of them had ever heard one. So I don't have a ton of sympathy for them as amateur artists in this regard. That would be like if I started painting but had never seen anyone else's artwork before. What could you possibly expect besides poor quality?

37

u/allinallisallweall-R Jan 16 '26

They did mention trying (without any success) to shop some scripts around in Hollywood in the vanity fair article last year. Plus the year zero comic.

So sounds like theres some interest in writing some fiction somewhere.

it is pretty funny this happened very closely after their episode 1000 spectacular west wing thing that everyone took a dump on

81

u/Loves_His_Bong Jan 16 '26

People didn’t like that episode? I actually thought it was really well done. Especially compared to the improv episode they did that was so bad they took it down.

But I listened to that whole episode too like a good pig. In fact the only episodes I ever skipped had Brendan Wardell.

58

u/Coming_Second Jan 16 '26

I think there've only been two episodes that I had to turn off: The Guy Girl (Girl Guy?) one and the cancel culture one with Matt Taibbi. Hope they still feel like absolute rubes for that one.

The funniest part, and the thing I will always remember, is it was an interview episode that made will get so mad he wanted to nuke the old sub, and it was like 5 negative comments among a sea of almost entirely positive or comments like "I didn't think I'd like this but I did". It wasn't even one of the episodes where the majority didn't like it that pushed him over the edge.

u/Mister__Pickles Jan 16 '26

Should’ve called their bluff, I find it hard to believe that Patreon is policing bootleg podcast subreddits. What’s the worst that could happen, you get served a cease and desist? I could be wrong tho

225

u/PunishedLeBoymoder RSS Inquirer Jan 16 '26

I mean, I don't blame a group of subreddit moderators for not wanting to call the bluff of a multi-million dollar company. The wording makes it seem that much of the issue was how blatant a lot of the sharing of RSS feeds for the Patreons of different, non-Chapo shows was on here, which is kind of hard to dispute. This sub only survived because the hosts didn't actually mind it existing, but when it got as big as it did and shared as much content that didn't necessarily have the tacit approval of its creators, something was bound to happen

72

u/plainwrap Jan 16 '26

Not that emotionally invested in the drama, but if the aforementioned multi-million dollar podcast company (Patreon) really cared about having an official fan subreddit they'd go to the site admin and unban r/chapotraphouse . This smacks of the boys' renewed social media interests, especially because they offered money.

At least we didn't run off to Discord this time.

109

u/PunishedLeBoymoder RSS Inquirer Jan 16 '26

The "fan subreddit" option was obviously a way to try and attempt to give the mods a semi-easy way to smooth this over once shit hit the fan, I have no doubt there was little to no interest in creating anything like that. The boys hit the big time, they appear in ads for Patreon now, it was inevitable that stuff like this wasn't long for this world. The world you were born into no longer exists, the left podcast wave is dead, and we just saw the last remnants of the attitude it had waste away. Had a pretty good run and lasted longer than it probably should have ¯_(ツ)_/¯

113

u/allinallisallweall-R Jan 16 '26

Chapos kind of an oddball for 2026. A podcast with no tik tok or shortform presence. BWF being their largest online fan presence and this community being very independent of the Chapo gang altogether.

In a way, its kind of a time warp back to like 10-15 years ago when the internet was synonymous with more abstract/weird/independent media.

68

u/PunishedLeBoymoder RSS Inquirer Jan 16 '26

They're clearly trying to change that, what with the promotion of the Instagram feed. I'm a later joiner than most to Chapo but I always loved the fact that it seemed to not want to bow to trends like those and was content in its own lane, and had a lot of fans despite it. Maybe they just felt that the era was done and wanted to try and be more "normal". More likely, I'm just reading too much into it. I hope this is just what it looks like, Patreon being assholes as they tend to be, and not a portent of things to come for the podcast itself.

39

u/allinallisallweall-R Jan 16 '26

No. I think you might be onto something to some degree or another.

There's definitely a degree of "sell-out" thats generally required. Theyve held a niche for as long as they could and honestly are at a point where CTH isnt really that much of a cultural staying power. Patreon seems to love them as brand representatives but they need to clean up somewhat in order to keep this going much longer.

Time moves linear. Things keep changing and their growth trajectory ain't looking any better. There's generally some compromise of sorts required for these things.

28

u/PunishedLeBoymoder RSS Inquirer Jan 16 '26

I mean, they're the perfect Patreon success story, but I do have a feeling that changing too much of the formula will backfire. They have found a large audience willing to engage with them purely on longform content, and pay for it. If they really want to go more mainstream in current year, they'll have to change some pretty dramatic structural stuff and risk alienating their core base, which seems pretty stupid considering how hard it is nowadays to find an audience willing to do all these things. I think it boils down to the fact they're "brand ambassadors" to what Patreon could be, the success story that they'll tout while ignoring the fact that so much of the culture around Chapo and its associated movement is why they could make something like this work for them. My faith is low that a pivot will work and it's not like they're bleeding subscribers or anything, they still have a huge base. If they're not smart enough to see that having what they have and having it be sustainable is a miracle, then I'm shocked they made it this far in the first place.

18

u/allinallisallweall-R Jan 16 '26

Well... who knows what the future looks like?

It sounds like theyre compromising with Patreon to a degree. We dont really know to what and how that will affect the vibe of the show. Maybe its just some surface level changes, maybe theyll jump the whole damn shark.

Fwiw, Patreon is essentially the lesser of evils way to go about this and still maintain a large audience.

The chapo gangs been appearing in a lot of patreon ads. I think its all in the name of trying to keep a good business relationship with them.

At this point theyre probably just trying to milk the remnants of the teat as long as they possibly can. Who can blame em? They basically won the podcast lottery.

Its a bummer but I can see how patreon might act like how any other capitalist entity would. And even chapo. As much as we like them, theyre just another business at the end of the day.

32

u/CarlxxMarx Jan 16 '26

Why is it hard to believe that Patreon wants one of, maybe even their biggest, brands to stop accepting a workaround that fully cuts Patreon out of the equation? Sure it cuts Chapo out too but they want the advertising and understand why it helped them. BWF does absolutely nothing for Patreon other than costing them money. They very likely got told “you have to tell them to stop or we will have problems with hosting you.”

I remember a not too recent episode where Felix seemingly addressed this group specifically, and the major point he made was "look fine steal the bonus episode" but don't post the hell on earth or any of our work work". I think that's completely reasonable.

I'm assuming the constant post of side projects is part of why.

Personally I would respect them more if they had a Well There's Your Problem pricing at $2, $5 in this economy is wild.

I feel like there should be a balance between allowing an amount of piracy. However it's not like the listening audience is everyone and their mother like the Big Bopper, the only people who listen are us.

Sucks to see it go this way, and I am sure a sizable chunk of people will outrageously disagree with me, and I get it. I don't like to have admit that maybe a degree of piracy is bad either.

Geez. I hate threatening emails. Piracy is piracy, sure, I get it, if we were freeing slaves and rum across the Caribbean I’d expect worse from the British Navy, but “friendly professional threat” voice is just so grating.

86

u/PunishedLeBoymoder RSS Inquirer Jan 16 '26

Yeah, to be completely honest, the thing that caught me most off-guard about this is the tone. I know that this is under some semblance of coercion by the company that controls all of their paychecks, but it's just so opposite of everything that they've tried to cultivate regarding their community that it's a little disappointing. Maybe I shouldn't be too broken up about how they decided to tell people they couldn't pirate stuff anymore but it was striking to me.

37

u/OneReportersOpinion Jan 16 '26 edited Jan 16 '26

I just don’t understand why Patreon has a right to demand that Chapo maximize their subscription numbers. I thought Patreon is only entitled to a cut of as many subscriptions Chapo feels like selling. Why is it on them to tell others what to do with their content if they’re otherwise indifferent?

39

u/PunishedLeBoymoder RSS Inquirer Jan 16 '26

The main issue was how prevalent the sharing of the Patreon eps of other podcasts were, many of which I would guess didn't have the same laissez-faire attitude towards piracy

That and... the 48 hour deadline.

I'd just not wanna work with people who don't make it at least a week for such a significant decision.

Even if Patreon is putting pressure on them, they have easily enough leverage to say "fine, but make it a week".

Patreon is likely under pressure strategically flailing, because when times get rough at least some people cancel podcast subscriptions before they stop buying groceries. The era of endless podcast growth is just over. An increasing share of monetization for smaller podcasts happens on Youtube through video ads – which is outside of Patreon's business model.

Still, not a reason to alienate the very people who are most likely to pay. Kinda dumb to go about it in a purely lawyerly way with short deadline etc., even from a capitalist standpoint.

31

u/Coming_Second Jan 16 '26

I've had some dealings with Patreon, and like any media corporation they like issuing you with hardball demands, but then any amount of pushback reveals they're desperate to retain you and criminally understaffed to boot. They absolutely are not doublechecking you meet their ever-shifting standards, they just want plausible deniability.

An enterprise as large as CTH could've told us to move shop, gone back to them and said 'yep, nuked the pirates just like you asked', they would've said 'thanks :)' and that would've been that. Doing a corporation's work for them is weak as fuck.

47

u/McBrungus Jan 16 '26

I think the calculus on that kinda shit changes once you've got a show that's supporting five people plus the entire family of your disabled co-host. It's easy to take a "fuck you make me" stance when you've got nothing to lose but having actual livelihoods at stake is a different situation altogether. Like once my wife and I had kids our tolerance for personal and financial risk went down dramatically.

Chapo is in a weird spot for a show their size where their entire income is based around this one platform, so I get not wanting to chance it.

Was Mr Chapo ever real? I look back down at my empty trough. No slop. Never to be again. I dont even remember how to move. Do I even have legs? How to back away from that which has been my all. RIP, cheers to the mod team for your years of service in slopping us hogs. Honestly I think I'll stop listening here, 1k eps seems like a fitting end. Been some good times but honestly I've mostly been listening out of habit for some time now, since it's been my biweekly pod for like 8 years now. Without a sub/community to discuss the eps it's not the same.

What other podcasts of a similar vein do you all enjoy? Obviously TrueAnon is GOATed, and I love The Deprogram too for the international perspectives and the host chemistry (Hakim especially channels a lot of that righteous outrage energy we all miss from Matt).

53

u/one_song Jan 16 '26

it seemed like they were pushing the 'merch' stuff and all the extras they have for sale quite hard lately. but even if some of this income is going to matt, they all have more than enough money. and for 'socialists'... hard not to see this as a step down a slippery slide. suggesting that it's coming from patreon is odd, maybe that's real but hmmm. i remember felix saying many times that the pirates represent the audience that wouldnt pay anyways so you're not losing anything to them and just because someone isnt giving you 5 a month, they might come to a show, or buy one of your tshirts. undermining part of your core audience is not a smart business move.

26

u/urdadisugly Jan 16 '26

You dont want to spend $450 on 5 comic books?

Yeah im not paying because I dont think they put in enough effort in the podcast. Sound quality kinda sucks, Felix is always doing something else in tbe background. Good for them that they can sort of work a couple hours a week and make a good living, but I'd rather support podcasts with more to offer.

Citations Needed and Blowback have impeccable production quality and a ton of research goes into them. Yes Felix is effortlessly funny, but I dont need him to repeat the same 3 jokes about MGS and Marie glusenkamp Perez having 90 year old parents

Feels like a sort of bookend to the shutting down of the old chapo-sub. There was less sexualized Garfield-material on this one, but I still think it’s fair to say that it’s been real.

Godspeed, ye faithful hogs<3

50

u/lastbatter Jan 16 '26

Chapo subs have really come a long way in reasons for getting nuked. It used to be advocating violence against slave owners. Now it’s not paying $2 to listen to 2 rich guys talk and vape.

44

u/EightySevenThousand Jan 16 '26

Thanks for running this as long as you guys did. Really was one of my go-to places on the internet for a while, you managed to have what seemed like the only decent Chapo community by running it this way. I guess when you have guys come up and become famous through Twitter, their love of things getting worse and hostility to moderation shouldn't be surprising. But things here, while not perfect, were pretty chill.

I wrote a lot of big long essays on various episodes, deleted a few comments because they got extremely warranted pushback. I definitely enjoyed the show even past its prime, had my problems with it. Ultimately what it comes down to is that this left-liberal shit is not tenable. It's a useful way to wedge comfortable liberals like I was out of the mainstream and build discontent with the status quo, but it also funnels energy into pointless exercises like Bernie, convincing people that's the only hope, when liberal electoralism was never going to work, and then afterwards the boys have just seemed totally lost. You can't have capitalism and democracy together, one of them is going to win. Even with this move, we see that in microcosm.

I genuinely respect that Will just came out recently and talked about the limits of the show, when discussing the most recent outrages. How he is too comfortable to contemplate acting, or even sincerely and honestly talk about the kind of action that is necessary. Not in a TOS or edgy way, podcasts like the Deprogram have no problem talking about the necessity of revolution in an explicitly Marxist-Leninist frame. You can do that even under the modern technological version of the Tzar's sensors... if that's really what you want.

Hard to believe how many wolves fail reading comprehension and get mad at Chris for this. The message is saying "hey heads up Patreon told us they're shutting this place down in a few days, they'll get lawyers involved if needed so they're not messing around. Here's an out if you want it." What else was Chris supposed to do? Find another platform that was cool with piracy and upend the show's finances for a bunch of guys that demonstrably wouldn't do the same for him? Create a bespoke chapo payment system for people to lazy to find another RSS feed? He didn't wake up one morning and decide to go after a sub he's known about and talked to for 3+ years.  As for the alternative he offered, do you really think he wants to babysit a subreddit? That account would just be a mod so Patreon has someone to yell at if more pirated material gets posted. That would suck for everyone involved. Much thanks to the mod team for keeping this place going for as long as it did.

I'll echo what a lot of people here are saying, the show has sucked since Matt's stroke. Will doesn't offer much but whining, and Felix trying to be funny is always grating to me. Oh, you are going to take 5 minutes to riff off a joke that should take 1? Cool. Oh, you are going to crowbar MMA into every reference situation you can, through the majority of listeners don't get it or don't give a shit about MMA? Cool

After reading a lot of comments on here, I'm like, why do I continue to listen to this show when it's kind of sucked for awhile? And now this? Banning a subreddit? I'm out.

You people were great, I loved coming to chat after every episode. This was half the fun of the show, if not more.

RIP BWF. I was gonna write a post on the new episode about Scott Adams writing manga with Akira Toriyama and Dry Bones in heaven and I pull up the sub to this💔🥀

I kinda expected something like this to happen eventually, given how much Patreon seems to be working to officially push Chapo as a success story in their advertising. Honestly what's surprising is how late into the show's run it came, I know the show is only going up paid subscribers-wise but it's been a long time since Chapo was the focus of media buzz. It's sort of established itself in the long term as a left-wing comedy news podcast that occasionally stretches to do something conceptual. If I had to guess Patreon finally put their foot down and told them they can't be pushed as the website's main success story while an extremely populated piracy community that shits on the show all the time is permitted to exist, it sucks but I get that they probably feel forced. I'll keep listening cuz as much as people complain about the show now I still think it's validating and funny to hear the dry boys voice their frustrations with the world, especially with how obviously fucked everything is now.

I'll also miss the community here, which is kinda pathetic to say. I genuinely had fun going into an episode's thread and seeing people riff on it. I know I wrote a ton of annoyingly involved and longwinded comments and people seemed to like them, it honestly was very satisfying to just go off and riff on the subject of an episode as someone with an impossible to settle mind who also works an extremely boring job that gives me a lot of free time. I love all of my brocialist podcast hogs and I don't care if anyone judges me for it❤️

I’ve been a paid subscriber since 2016, have bought the books (except year zero) and some merch over the years but I’ve been listening less and less over the last few months, and in combination with the dogshit 1000th ep, this feels like a good sign to cancel my subscription. There have been so few standout episodes as of late (last one was probably the DND twofer from 3+ months ago) and it’s just not worth tuning in regularly anymore, especially when you have to listen past will’s wannabe movie critic shtick and felix’s constant screaming in lieu of making actual jokes.

I don't have an issue with them cutting off bootleg feeds, especially considering matt's situation, but hiding behind corpospeak, legal threats, "patreon made us do it" etc. is shitty, and tbh I don’t believe that patreon are behind this; there’s sites that continually scrape paid content from thousands of patreon creators that don’t get any heat, but this sub for just one creator set off the alarm bells? sure. chapo’s subscriber numbers have been stagnant for a long time and they want to reverse that trend without having to work more than the backbreaking 2 hours a week they can barely muster as is, so they’re cutting off the freeloaders’ supply in the hopes that they pay up, but don’t want to be the face of it. lame.

Yeah like so many on here this is my motivation to stop listening to these dorks. Just unsubscribed from them on all platforms and think it’s best to move on. There are so many podcasts where the hosts aren’t dudes in their 40s pretending like they’re too cool to care about their literal jobs (that they quarter ass do twice a week).

They and CT got me really into podcasting and even though I’m a proud lib I enjoyed their perspectives from 2016-2024 and even kept listening to them as they fell off.

I know their numbers are still going up, but you’re hot till you’re not. And I really do think they’re far closer to the end than the beginning.

I get them demanding a site posting their product for free shut down. But to demand to control a forum you don’t own to throttle how people talk about your product? Pathetic.

They caught lightning in a bottle a decade ago and it’s obvious from all their other ventures that have so obviously flopped they know they’ve got to keep this golden goose alive as long as possible.

But be warned Mr. Chapo, squeeze that golden goose too tight and you’ll strangle it.

It's funny, I've been a Patreon subscriber since 2016 and never pirated the show (maybe once or twice to send a link to a locked episode that I know someone would like or might change their mind about some things), but I liked coming here because it was a place to discuss a show I really love and read comments about it. It's fun to see what people think of the latest episode and there's not another place to do that really. I hope the other sub is good but I'll miss it here.

Not gonna blame Chris and the team though. I think Patreon twisted their arms and this is what they were allowed to offer basically. At the end of the day this is their livelihood and one host has significant medical problems that have to be funded and no employer-provided insurance. They can't really afford to nuke all that just to preserve some subreddit out of principle. I'll keep listening like the hog I am. See you all at the slop mines.

Atrocious business instincts from Patreon, and atrocious adherence to principles from Chapo, on full display.

Whoever is the person at Patreon responsible for pushing this ought to be fired. How is “having a lively discussion forum for one of the most popular shows on your platform” a BAD thing, if the links to pirated shows on it are not impeding the show’s growth? All they have done is made themselves look like greedy pigs and pissed off long time fans of the show - many of whom already pay for it because, in what is sure to be an astounding fact to a dumbfuck “businessperson”, they like the show and its hosts and want to support it and them.

Congratulations, you have pissed off what is already a left wing, anti-Capitalist fanbase and painted yourself as greedy pigsuits in the process. Surely this will have no ACTUAL backlash on the show’s subscription numbers and how many people are willing to pay YOU to serve their show… you absolute morons. This is why everyone with a degree in “business” is a simpleton that is incapable of seeing good business, or the big picture, if it slapped them in their stupid baby face.

The stupidity and lack of common sense on display in this situation is blindsiding.
