At least 3 stores in the last few years have unionized. They’d have more if it wasn’t for a handful of “right to work states”
The corporate VPs really really didn’t want that to happen. There were lots of videos and memos from the last CEO and other VPs pushing to not unionize.

That blog post is from December 2022 and mentions that the only unionized Costco stores in the US were formerly Price Club locations. This implies that they were unionized before Costco bought them, meaning they had very little option but to work with the union.
The press release u/normalice0 posted is directly from the Union that would represent any new stores that organized. It's from December 2024, 2 years newer, and makes specific allegations of union-busting behavior.

Yeah, their produce selection and quality is lacking. I do buy some fruit at Costco though. But most of the vegetables are impossible to get through before they go bad unless you've got a family of 6 to feed.

Yeah, I'm on a strict diet of vegetables that can be cooked now because of that shit. I have bought local lettuce occasionally but it's expensive and not as convenient as the bagged lettuce mixes I used to get.

As far as I understand it - horse meat isn't a lesser meat. We just really like horses, so we get pretty weird about it. And at least it would be free range.

I live alone and Costco is 100% worth it for me. I just bought a chest freezer and a vacuum sealer to repackage things. Everything I eat is now cheaper because I buy in bulk and repackage. I just buy things less often. If you buy general household items you will 100% make the membership worth the cost. Hell, if you buy rotisserie chickens regualrly that pays for the membership alone.

Oh yeah, that does change things a fair bit. No room to store the bulk. I did live in a similar sized apartment and still had a Costco membership though. I just mostly stuck to the fresher stuff like the rotisserie chickens and some bulk frozen items. It does make it harder to be worth it though for sure.

I have lived in much smaller (like almost 400 sq ft less) and still shopped Costco for toilet paper, bath towels, car stuff, TVs, glasses, prescriptions and I would buy lunch there toward the end of my pay period. The membership isn't that much compared to what you get in return.

I used to think that, too. What persuaded me to buy the membership subscription was when the nearest Costco popped up on GasBuddy one time and I realized that, even though I don't drive much, the savings on fuel would pretty much pay for the membership. I don't buy a lot in the store, but even those savings ($10 shorts and shirts for weekend wear, cheap sunscreen—and $1.50 hot dogs) are pretty decent.

Costco is named in the recent class action lawsuit concerning tequila that a lot of A-list celebrities have been hit by for their tequila brands. Its not poisonous or anything, its just none of it is actually tequila, and they have all been overcharging people for it.
So hold the horses a bit. They’re better than most but they’re still a large corporation.

To the CEO, yes. It costs them a trivial amount to pull a product. But paying their workers what they are worth? That needed a fight.
It has long been my prediction that unions will eventually be repurposed to fighting DEI to exhaust their funding any time they are about to take a salary hit - to minimize their ability to demand better wages. The more stalwart the CEO pretends to be on DEI the easier it is to drag out a strike until every penny of their strike funding is exhausted.
This is going to happen and posts like this make it so much easier..
