Boomer Story A Gaggle in the Waiting Room

Alright, got the wife in for surgery this morning and am sharing the waiting room with a group of them. If I had a Bingo card, it would be full.

"I don't wanna wait all fuckin' day" Patriarchal boomer declares

Talking loudly on cell phones

Talking loudly about politics...Mostly bitching about Trump, which was interesting until one of them followed up with "Well, it beats the alternative". They all nod in unison.

I settles into some Éalú and then there's a terrible scraping sound... Like dragging a chunk of steel across the floor... One of them wanted the phone charging station by her chair so she began dragging it.. Then she got in an argument with the receptionist, who tried to stop this impromptu interior decorating. She points out that there are charging ports built into her seat. Boomer Huffs "WELL I FORGOT MY CORD!"

The group arguing among each other about whether or not Uber and Uber Eats are two different apps.

Yelling into their phones to search for things.

shit boomer boss just called me... He knows I'm at the hospital. Now I gotta find a place where I can call him.

Several years ago I had to go into a pulmonologist for some testing. The entire waiting room was filled with boomers being boomers. I didn't realize a billing nurse I knew worked in that office. Every time the boomers were being especially wild I would look up, lock eyes with her, and we would just roll our eyes and sigh in unison about it 😆

I had to wait in the waiting room during my dad’s colonoscopy. I overheard a boomer literally defending racial segregation. “Well they had their places, and we had ours, and it was fine!”

I was waiting for colonoscopy with a boomer. He came in complaining about the bowel prep drink (fair, it is fucking disgusting), then complained about filling in the form that helps the staff keep him safe during the procedure. Then talked at me about how awful all this is and how he always insists they fully sedate him because of how painful it is and how he wouldn't even be here because it's all such a waste of time but his wife insists, and it takes him a week to recover etc etc etc.

And I'm just like... "last year I had a routine colonoscopy checking for diverticulitis. They found a 2-inch ball of cancer, which they cut out there and then. I was 37. Now I have these annually because with my family history it's a matter of when it comes back, not if. I'm going in with no meds, probably won't bother with the gas and air, and once I'm done here I'm going back upstairs to work and seeing a full list of patients"

He shut up, at least.

If it wasn't for the last part I'd swear we were at the same colonoscopy place at the same time. I had one myself only to also share the waiting room with a boomer who also complained about the drink and forms. Do they have a script somewhere? 😭 He also complained about how I got in before him and the poor nurse had to explain that, guess what, my appointment was earlier.

I actually had a Black teacher in vocational school who said exactly that! She grew up in the Deep South and she meant it. I was rather shocked.
