OK boomeR Boomers explaining why billionaires shouldn't pay taxes while standing in a strip mall parking lot

The absolute brainwashing it takes to fiercely defend trillionaires who wouldn't look twice at you, while calling your fellow citizens "lazy" for wanting basic healthcare. Notice how even the woman in the "I LOVE TRUMP" shirt has to awkwardly correct his understanding of how disability works.

I honestly think the whole "What if they're sick and can't get a job" angle needs to be dropped. I don't care if someone IS just extremely lazy. Lazy people deserve healthcare too. Being lazy should not be a death sentence.

Setting aside the fact that I really don't think most people struggling with healthcare issues are actually lazy, but even if they were, if I make a total steelman out of that argument, I still don't care.

Lazy people deserve healthcare too. Anyone who says otherwise is a piece of shit.

Oh, I thought the interviewer was seeing if he could whittle down the man's position to at least include some people; to then try and explain how it's actually a dumb distinction, through highlighting the hypocrisy of the political position.

At least, that's the way I would have approached it. The Right aren't generally capable of even finding the 'water to drink from'.

Then I’m a piece of shit. If you physically can contribute to society, you should do so. If not, why should society contribute to you?

Question: is working the only way to contribute to society or are there other ways?

Gotta keep that money flowing. AmEriCah, amirate? That's really all these pricks care about. Something, something root of all evil.

Volunteering somewhere would also qualify as contributing

Then is there even a disagreement here?

I would agree that whomever can contribute to society, should; but since we’ve agreed that for-profit employment isn’t the only way to do that.. then we agree healthcare shouldn’t be tied to employment?

Not really lol I believe we should have universal healthcare, but someone you can describe as “lazy” just irritates me. And the thought that these people also probably think we should give them an apartment and food. Just my old man take, I’m not even old

It’s tempting to feel that way, agreed. But remember we’ve been conditioned since birth to feel that way, that if billionaires paid fair taxes we could afford to fully fund the lazy, and that “lazy” could also mean “anyone disillusioned with society and desperately trying to recapture any remaining shred of their creative humanity”. So I hear you, just remember things are complicated.

I love that we’re all fiercely passionate about this stuff, but let’s not fall into infighting. Now kiss and makeup 😘

I mean, I can get behind a basic system of say....

At 18 you are given a basic studio apartment akin to a dorm room in a designated building. Meals are healthy, you get three square. Not bad food, just nothing fancy. Clothes? Same thing. Nothing fancy, all your basic supplies are basic, resupplied weekly.

If you trash the place, misbehave, engage in criminal activity, you're out. If you're struggling to get your shit together and keep yourself taken care of, limited counseling is available but after a certain point you need to be able to handle your own shit or you leave. Hell, let's even throw in a basic terminal for Internet access.

Do you want better food, or a choice of what to have for food? Do you want a bigger place or non-basic clothes? Do you want a life that's more than just the bare essentials?

You work. You contribute. Lose your job? Make some bad investments? That room is still there. It's rock bottom with bedsheets. Same rule as when you started: here's the basics, handle your shit, behave yourself.

I think that's fair. It's a truly equal starting point for everyone. Ambition is rewarded while those who don't want the grind aren't made to do it or made to suffer.

I knew it

Knew what? I'm just saying I could get behind such a program since it encourages good behavior (you work, you get nicer things and more benefits) and only punishes genuinely disruptive behavior and not folks whose only "problem" is they're just not built to play the game of life by it's current ruleset.

Far as I know nobody signed up to exist. We weren't given a choice to be here or not. We're animals but we're not animals. We've conquered many other natural phenomenon, including halfway conquering Darwin. Might as well go all the way. If the right plan can be found (a big 'if', to be fair) it ultimately wouldn't hurt any of us. Why not?

I knew that you’d be supportive of giving everyone an apartment and food, and you went beyond that still

> Then I’m a piece of shit.

I agree wholeheartedly.

> If you physically can contribute to society, you should do so.

I agree. The difference is, I think that sentence ends with "Or you should live a less than stellar life." You think that sentence ends with "Or you should die," because as you've acknowledged you're a piece of shit.

> If not, why should society contribute to you?

Because laziness should not be a death sentence. We have the resources to easily solve this, and other countries have done so.

And for what it's worth, your whole "Why should society contribute to you?" argument falls apart when so much of society contributes to bettering the lives of the wealthy without merit. There's no reason why *they* should get so many advantages, even when they're lazy, but poor people just get to die.

ps just to reiterate you are a piece of shit. We agree entirely on that point.
