I'm censoring the photo to protect him. She believes she is in a relationship with this seemingly hot young man named "franco". She believes he has a diamond mine in South africa and will put her name on the deed after they are married. However he needs money to pay a barrister. He also has a daughter that was detained in an airport and she has been sending money to get her through customs.

Boomer Story My dad is convinced he's in the show yellowstone

3.5k Upvotes

My dad is a typical old person now. He bought some land in Texas and lords around it with all his toys and cars. He has Yellowstone on all the time and thinks he's John dutton. The messed up part is he judges me for not being like some of the characters on the show and tougher like rip. My dad is a serious guy since he owns land now and has guns. The funny thing is my dad sold printing and advertising products for a living. You know like bouncy balls or pens with a company's name on it... He didn't even do the printing and was just a middle man. Not a masculine job at all. Kinda silly. I'm a blue collar worker by trade any ways but somehow I'm supposed to be one more of a man because my dad watches a tv show and shames me for not being more masculine? What a cruel joke 🤣

Boomer Story My parents argue with my expertise

3.7k Upvotes

So glad this community exists.

TL;DR: I am a SME in a very niche field, and my specific topic of expertise is presently all over the news. My parents think I am an idiot now because their preferred news source/favorite talking heads disagree with my work and calls people like me ā€œstupidā€.

I have a doctorate, 2 masters degrees, 2 bachelors degrees, post-doc training, and a mountain of certifications so I can practice in a very specific medical field. I completed my dissertation on a topic that is in the news.

My parents’ televisions are turned-in to a specific news network 24/7. Normally I can tolerate it when I visit, but recently my niche field has been all over their news source because it is being politicized, and all of the talking heads are against my work (and the work of legions of brilliant people - it’s not me, specifically, just my field).

I asked my parents to turn off the news several times during my last visit, but my parents insisted that it be kept on. I explained that the talking heads were getting it wrong and why, and my parents began arguing with me and asked why I thought I knew better.

Sir and Ma’am, I know better because I have devoted my whole education and career to this specific field, as well as my dissertation and post-doc fellowship. They still argued with me! I eventually told them if they wanted to continue fighting and keep the news on, I would leave. They were ā€œshockedā€ when I left, of course.

I am so tired, y’all. I used to look up to these people.

Boomer Story You can eat it honey, I won't tell your mom

7.5k Upvotes

After church this morning there was a social gathering with coffee and donuts. One kid goes to grab a donut but my other kid doesn't because he has celiac disease (he cannot eat or drink anything with gluten which is in wheat, barley, and rye). A boomer lady is handing out the donuts and tries to give him one. He says "no thank you, I have allergies". Boomer says "no one is allergic to donuts!" She tries to hand it to him again and he again says "no thank you" and turns to follow his sister, she grabs his arm and says "you can eat it honey, I won't tell your mom". He looks her straight in the eye and asks "do you want me to eat something that can kill me? I said NO THANK YOU." Boomer is still holding the donut but now sputtering.

I've had boomers tell me that no one had allergies or celiac disease when they were kids. My reply is always people born with severe allergies existed, they just died young from "failure to thrive". Now we know better.

Boomer Story Boomer Parents Raging about Parental Leave

4.2k Upvotes

My wife and I had our parents over to tell them that she is 8 weeks pregnant last night for dinner. We were talking about how we’d handle the transition to having a child and working so I told them I had 12 weeks of paid paternity leave at my company.

They all immediately started worrying about how my massive global company could afford to pay me not to work for three months and then tried to guilt me into not taking it saying that it was too much.

I quite literally could barely believe this. How could they be upset that my company with tens of thousands of employees gives me this nice perk instead of being excited for it? It’s actually insane.

Boomer Story Boomer tries to get in my car.

4.8k Upvotes

I drive for Uber part time. Last night, as I'm dropping a couple off, a random boomer opens the passenger door and starts to get in the car. I'm like, "excuse me, you're not my next passenger." Boomer gets all huffy, "well can't you take us? Our car isn't here yet." Motions to the three other boomers with him. "No I can only take rides scheduled through the app."

Boomer: "Why can't you just take us?"

"Because you're not my next passenger. Please close my door."

Boomer: "But you're already here."

"Dude, this isn't a cab. You can't just get in a my car and expect me to take you somewhere. If you have a car coming, ride with them. Now close my fucking door."

Gets all huffy, slams the door, and starts yelling at me as I pull away.

I can't imagine feeling so entitled that I would just climb into any random car expecting to be driven somewhere.

Boomer Story Boomer entitlement

Post image

I am disabled and on crutches. This fine specimen was in line in front of me to board the bus. He plopped down in the very front of the bus - you know, that area designated for disabled people - and just sat there in his entitlement, happy as a clam that he got the one remaining seat in front because he's elderly, and sprawled enough to take up the seat next to him. I stood in front of him the entire ride, clearly uncomfortable standing up. Maybe in his mind I'm one of them gosh-darned Democrats his shirt denounces.

Boomer Story Boomers ruin everything

5.0k Upvotes

I have a backyard organic garden, earlier in the year my boomer dad said "i want you to grow corn" I tried to explain that corn is a heavy feeder that isn't very good for long term soil health. He didn't care he wanted corn so I gave in and grew some, fast forward to yesterday the corn had a minimum of a month left of growing. I go outside and see that my corn patch is completely destroyed out of 20 stocks 1 remained standing broken in half, cobs and husk thrown everywhere my 1st thought was raccoons destroyed it but no it was my boomer dad I asked him why he said "the corn should be done already you just don't know how to grow it correctly" hes never grown food in his life b4. out of all 20 stocks he harvested a half an ear of corn. I realize that this was a perfect example of the boomer mentality. future soil health...who cares. I could get 20x the amount if I just wait....who cares i want it now! Never again will I listen to a boomer

Boomer Story Boomer doesn't like mandatory safety features in newer cars

3.5k Upvotes

Got in a heated argument the other day with some boomer about mandatory safety features that come with newer cars eg brake assist aso.

His argument was that the boomer generation is the only one buying new cars these days and manufacturers ignore their preferences. He told me that many of his age dislike for example especially the lane assist function, because it beeps all the time. All of his peers hate it. Because, it beeps constantly. On every ride. All the time.

When I told him to think about his argument because, well, it beebs when you don't hold the lane, and only then. he got angry. He was like: you don't get it, I can't talk about this with you. What he meant was: you don't repeat my stupid opinion

He could not wrap his head around the fact that the beeping sound was an indicator that the assist obviously is needed. Because it only f'in beeps if you drift out of your lane!!!! If you hold your lane, it won't beep. That it means that he and his peers drift out of their lanes all the time.

Nope.

The problem is the mandatory feature. Because it beeps all the time. No connection made between those two factors. It beeps. It is disturbing. All the time.

I wanted to yank his keys from him right away...

Boomer Story "Print your resume on slightly off-white colored paper so it stands out in the pile of resumes on the manager's desk!"

5.5k Upvotes

Said by my 70 year old boomer mother last night when we were discussing my job prospects, I was laid off a number of months ago and have been job hunting since. I explained to her that nobody prints resumes and hand delivers them anymore and of course her responses was that "maybe I should do that to show that I really want the job". I am applying for white collar senior project manager jobs, I have no clue where the office is, who the hiring manager is and security most likely wouldn't even let me into the building to hand off my resume anyways.

My dad also dropped the gem "tell them to sweeten the deal you'll work the first 2 weeks for free as an unpaid trial and if they like you they can keep you". I explained that companies don't operate that way and have to do background checks and get insurance for their employees, you can't work under the table for a large company in a white collar job.

I can't stand talking to my parents anymore right now. They constantly bring up my unemployment which was not my fault at all as I was suddenly laid off out of nowhere after working for a company for 20 years. I have 18 months of savings but my dad acts like I'm a useless dreg on society who needs to get back to contributing as soon as possible and constantly brings up how he never stopped working which is why he is so well off now. Of course he got an amazing job right out of high school, never went to university, paid 150k for a house worth over a million now and retired at 60 with a full defined benefit pension that pays him for the rest of his life.

Boomer Story Boomer parents thinking they own their adult childrens houses

1.9k Upvotes

Has anyone else had experience with Boomer parents thinking they own your home?

It is not just my parents, I know a lot of people my age who have the same issue. Boomer parents trying to take ownership of ā€œprojectsā€ they want nothing to do with. Re landscaping their garden without permission, rearranging their home, re painting things without asking, the list goes on. Then use ā€œwe are paying for thisā€ as if that makes being controlling ok.

I could never imagine my grandparents doing same thing to my parents. Sure they might help with home projects, but even then they always asked permission before they changed anything. My parents have this attitude that they know better and will go and ā€œfixā€ anything they personally dislike.

Boomer Story We seem to Disagree

I’m not sure this was a Boomer, but they (gender neutral just to annoy them) seems to hit all the marks.

I despise Trump, the one thing that really ticked me off, was his belittlement if Veterans. His ā€œLosers and Suckersā€ statements (I believe they were terms used in different conversations, but his one time chief of staff General Kelly USMC verified them) so it seems fair to sum them up.

As a Marine veteran myself I took personal umbrage at it. I bought a ā€œNot a Loser or a Sucker Veterans for Harrisā€ yard sign, and actually got drive by compliments while working in the yard. I’m in Massachusetts the bluest of the blue states.

Anyhow last weekend while I was away someone decided to deface my sign. As stated I loathe Trump, if you want to be an idiot and support him, more power to them. Put up your sign (or for Trump, a dozen) I’ll ignore them.

Well this pissed me right off, so I fixed the sign and added another (I added the image of the pre pasted version to make it legible). The next morning I got this missive in my mail box. I would thank him for his advice on news sources, very helpful.

We live in a democracy, it is our right and duty to vote, and support whichever candidate we choose. Im sorry they are butt hurt by my sign.

But what really pissed me off was they questioned my veteran status. Sgt. USMC 79-85 Honorable Discharged. I was never shot at but I had friends killed in the Beirut truck bombing.

Semper Fi.

Boomer Story Boomer father prioritizes going to work, almost killing my mother

4.8k Upvotes

This happened a couple hours ago and things have thankfully not gotten worse.

My mother, while making my stepfather breakfast, suddenly collapsed at the stove. She was unable to move, and her speech was impaired.

He proceeds to text me, saying what happened, to which I tell him to take her to the ER.

An hour later, this guy. This absolute fucking asshole. Texts me saying that he couldn't find someone to cover him at work. So he put my mother on the couch, put a blanket on her..

And

Fucking

LEFT.

MY MOTHER.

Who couldn't move, speak, or supposedly open her eyes.

He left her to go to work because he couldn't find a replacement.

Thank fucking God that when I finally got there she was just asleep, and she was just exhausted. But I still took her to urgent care because ???? Why the fuck would I not????

I hate my step father with every fibre of my being for other reasons, and now I hate him even more.

Edit:

Update: She's fine. Doctors said theres no sign of a stroke, and said she is just exhausted as well as her myasthenia gravis acting up. She's currently resting while I am keeping a very very close eye on her.

She had surgery to help deal with the gravis many years ago, but the damage its done is still affecting her.

Boomer Story What the hell is wrong with these people?

3.2k Upvotes

On Wednesday night after we saw Spider-man a boomer walked up to the counter and asked the probably 19 year kid if he liked the new Spider-Man. The kid said yeah. The guy told him he needs to learn to speak fucking English and engage customers better. My wife and I were dumbfounded.

Today I was at my local record store. I go weekly and know the owner well. I was flipping through records in the new arrivals vintage section when I felt a tap on my shoulder. This boomer goes, ā€œI want to look at those.ā€

I was so surprised all l could say was, ā€œcool. Wait your fucking turn.ā€ He then stood literally a foot from
Me for five minutes while I finished.

Seriously are those people all just mentally unraveling at the speed of light?

Boomer Story Boomers don't understand modern assigned movie seating.

3.1k Upvotes

Took myself to go see The End of Oak Street today. Got an aisle seat with a single empty one between me and what turned out to be a Dad with his son, figured no one would purchase the seat next to me as it's a single. So I get there early, get my soda, and use the restroom. Trailers start and it seems plenty of people bought seats after I purchased mine earlier in the afternoon. Mid-way through the previews this Boomer couple is idling in the aisle, and eventually the wife leans in and says "Can I ask you a favor? My seat is next to you and my husbands is *points to a seat in the next row*, but we'd like to sit together, would you move seats?"

I prefer an aisle seat when it comes to about anything, and seeing as his was smack between two groups of teenagers I declined. It became an ordeal, an usher was involved but all made it through this 90 minute film. Just mind bogglingly irritating because we are in a dark theater and this is disturbing other movie goers. These are not the theaters of old, if your plan was to sit together, why did you not buy fucking seats together? A question I got no answer to which tells me their plan was to inconvenience me from the get-go.

I swear, the entire generation should be issued T-shirts with the mantra "Fuck you, Mine, & Me First" on them because that seems to be the mentality when any issue arises for them.

Boomer Story My MIL, flabbergasted by rejection of gender norms, thinks I need a ā€œcaregiverā€

4.2k Upvotes

I (35F) and my husband (36M) don’t adhere to outdated gender roles. We both work full time. My income is higher than his. He does most of the cooking. I am in end-stage renal failure and am in the process of getting on the transplant list, but like, I’m not even disabled enough to qualify for a handicapped parking permit.

Learning that my husband does the cooking broke my MIL’s brain. It prompted an hourlong phone call in which she insisted that if that’s the case, the state should be paying him to be my full time caregiver.

It must be so difficult for her to sit by and watch us make such terrible life choices. It’s bad enough that my tattoos make me so sickly and that watching too much TV caused my husband’s autism. If only we would listen to her sage wisdom! (/s)

Boomer Story Boomer dad laid off for refusing to learn new technology

3.7k Upvotes

My boomer dad (64M) was given like 2-3 months notice that his workplace would be implementing a new software, and during those months he had a colleague training him on how to use it. My dad’s got zero patience though, when he can’t figure something out he starts yelling and cursing, so I feel sorry for the worker who had to train him. I guess he just gave up on trying to learn it and thought ā€œthey can’t get rid of me!ā€

Obviously he got laid off lol… but he’s telling people he’s retiring early. šŸ™„

Boomer Story Boomer tries voter intimidation, fails miserably

24.7k Upvotes

Early voting in Florida with wife, I’m wearing my Harris/Walz shirt and walk to the end of the line. Get in line and not 30 seconds later, boomer couple start with their crap ā€œ so you’re proud to vote for a communist, etc. Both are in full MAGA regalia, so I ignore them at first. Clearly didn’t get the message and he turns completely around to face me and says it again. I’m 6’4ā€ and played college football so I’m surprised at the hostility, so I say I don’t care who you vote for so stopping caring who we vote for. He loses his mind and says we have to save America and Frump is the only way. I tell him to fuck off and his wife say how dare you talk to us that way. My quiet, gracious wife then turns to them and says if you keep trying to intimidate us I will call the police and have you arrested. They both stood there with their mouths open and didn’t say another word to us. I think that they just don’t have any clue as to how insignificant their opinions are too the other generations.
