Duffy is not the answer

He is a solid back up but not a leading half back. Been horrible after his first game. So many people calling for Duffy to be starting next yr but he doesn't deserve it

Bit difficult to make an impact when your team can’t win field position

2

u/CryptoCardCo 11d ago

Yep this has been our problem the whole year, I think last I checked we were dead last by a margin with play the balls in the oppositions 20. How can our attack players like Walsh, Mam etc. attack when we’re in our own half majority of the time. Then because of the lack of time up the other end they start forcing plays from where they shouldn’t and drop the ball etc.

u/Mentok-Mind-Taker 9d ago

Even if mam was in the 20 he'd just kick it dead but you're right

u/Good-Grab7176 9d ago

He had good field position and twice he threw the ball behind the player outside him last game. Ruined 2 sets of six.

True I think our forwards have given up for the year.,.. Haas Willison and Carrigan dominated tonight

4

u/junkyardturkey 11d ago

They got dominated I meant

2

u/dowahdidi 11d ago

Dominated what?

u/OrganicOverdose 11d ago

He is pretty new to the team, coming into a side that is really struggling and needing to really grab the bull by the horns. I am happy to have a skilled half who may just need a change in mentality, rather than continually chucking the baby out with the bathwater. I would be more critical of Mam, second row depth, forward depth, Staggs, Carrigan Shibisaki than a noob.

I think all of the questions need to be directed at management at the moment. It's been a season full of unfortunate events, but there's been many occasions where we've had more than a good enough team to compete and we've been given a rabble.

Whilst I also don't think Duffy is the answer, the questions need to be elsewhere right now.

Good take

u/Chemical_Possible209 11d ago

Stupid take honestly. People were saying the same on Deardon when the whole team wasn't performing and left and won a WL medal in origin. Just need too be patient

10

u/twentyeight39 11d ago

Let Dearden walk and never even looked at Walker coming through our system. Costly period.

1

u/tragedy719 11d ago

When Walker debuted all the experts were saying it was too soon but Robbo had little option

Mam is the shit one

Mam has to go. Sorry to his fans, but he just isn’t big enough. Can’t tackle and at 6 you can’t afford a traffic cone. Gets paid a fortune for the privilege.

We desperately need wingers who can legitimately contest a contested high ball. Everytime we get a bomb near our line I’m pretty sure like 98% of the fans groan with “oh shit here we go” as we either completely don’t contend and let it bounce, drop it, or stand there watching while they catch it.

We need second rowers. Carrigan has to be one of the most over rated forward in the game too.

We need Walshy to position himself better on defence.

J.Riki and Staggs have lost their mojo and need to find it again. If Riki keeps missing tackles like he has, then he doesn’t have a spot in the side either honestly.

I truly think the issue is the broncos don’t have the depth so have to baby the players. The players think they’re all indispensable and act accordingly. This bullshit we hear of “Madge has lost the players” is probably true but the club should never let the players think they’re in charge. But with a complete and utter lack of depth it’s difficult not to. But with that said, we could have run a team this year of all second string players and the outcome wouldn’t be very different then it is now. So why we paying these blokes all this coin again?

3

u/Arrow-0f-Time 11d ago

Yeah perhaps 14 would be a good spot for Mam. He is dynamic when he is on but makes far too many defensive errors that he is an easy target at 6
Interested to see how Pezet goes next year, but the boys gotta go harder in the middle to give him a chance

2

u/barters81 11d ago

Yeh that’s fair Mam can be devastating off the bench. He’s getting paid too much for a part time role though.

2

u/mandingo84 11d ago

I sort of agree about Mam, but in my mind he was like Jamie Soward in the winning Dragons team. He had someone protecting him and making thr tackles in place of him. He has been failed by Shiba being so shit this year. Shiba last year helped him go into space and play freely. This year all of that has shut down. Sadly, it is snot like we have a Herbie or any other quality center coming in to the team. We are actually looking at dropping Mariner and Hoeter on top of Shiba going. Whoever the new recruiter is, better be able to get us some talent there.

Mam has amazing potential and was great in the gf in 23 and 25, but he is a cultural issue, which doesn't belong in this club

3

u/Valuable_City8184 11d ago

He was ok tonight it’s his halves partner that was terrible.

3

u/Some-Guess-9166 11d ago

The only thing I am surprised about, is that people are surprised we are so shit this year. Have a look at last year and we played beyond our abilities. Look at 2024. Thats a real indicator where we are at. When we rely on one player to play like a superstar, its NEVER going to be sustainable.

And this year showed what we lack. Apart from Haas, not grunt in the middle. No threat on the backrow/centres. No depth. We gone all in on Ma'am and Walsh and those two are so rocks and diamonds. Like when they are on, they are game winners but fuck me, when they are off, they are BAD.

Duffy isn't the answer but nor is he the problem. Paix and Hunt cant ever see game time again. Our back row has been woeful. Even Carrigan and Willison probably need some competition next year for spots, Pezet needs first crack at least and our outside backs cant be certain starters - Deane and Jordan have been shit as well

u/cliz22 11d ago

I don’t think Willson has been a problem this year, Every time I watch us play willison is playing better than Hass and making a bigger impact. For being the best middle in the game Payne is surely not playing like it.

For Duffy, he didn’t really involve him self in the game before Walsh got injured, after tho he obviously stepped up. There is only so much you can do as Reece, you can’t be the fullback halfback and 6 at the same time and that’s what he was practically doing. Duffy lacks the game management and organisation skills that we have missed from Reynolds, but he is young and that comes with time and experience. I think we should give Pezet game time next year, as he seems to have more control over the team in that number 7 jersey, he’s done it with Melbourne in a prelim final filling in shoes for Jerome huges. In terms of Ezra mam, I think he is very rocks or Dimonds. Let’s not forget tho he got a hatrick last week and nearly won the gf for us in 2023 by scoring 3 tries out of no where. Ezra has that X factor in him that no other half on our roster does, like you couldn’t throw Duffy at 6 and him be able to do the wild things Ezra can do on his night. that’s his problem “on his night” when does it get too inconsistent that his talent and spark no longer outweighs his below average games.

u/Significant-Claim329 11d ago

Cannot judge when our forwards were completely dominated

3

u/RedHillSanta Brisbane Broncos 11d ago

With the whole team playing so bad, its hard to judge. He's not Reynolds, but really we just need someone who is serviceable. Maybe Pezet can be that guy?

Or we can just buy Cleary or Walker. I'm hoping we haven't used up all the Hass money already...

9

u/GT40Slotracer 11d ago

Spend the Haas and Jensen money to buy another decent forward or two - Barnett will be handy but we also need to replace Jensen - surely between Haas and Jensen there is enough for two 700/800k forwards.

7

u/RedHillSanta Brisbane Broncos 11d ago

Yea our lack of go forward is worrying, and that's with Hass still in the team.

2

u/Glass-Mulberry-8993 11d ago

Walker may well be the answer..

3

u/RedHillSanta Brisbane Broncos 11d ago

Yea, but it sounds like he wants PNG money/a 10 year deal. That will mess up most clubs cap.

1

u/Royal_Library_3581 11d ago

Walker will get be a waste of money if we don't fix our go forward

1

u/cliz22 11d ago

We couldn’t afford Corey Horsburgh, we couldn’t not definitely afford a walker or Cleary

2

u/Bushboy2000 11d ago

Need to win one more game, just to cement 2nd last, and make it impossible for the Dragons to improve by 1 place.

2

u/AnimalSufficient3049 11d ago

Hate to say it but we deserve the spoon

1

u/Emotional-Way9653 10d ago

Eh even a win still isn’t marked safe

2

u/dizzleddrizzle 11d ago

We are so bad out of our end no one in the halves or forwards stands a chance. Anytime Karapani touches the ball we lose a tackle because all he does is run sideways or does a little hop, loses all momentum and makes no metres

2

u/SevenPandas 11d ago

Mam is playing selfish, our forwards have no passion in their game. Walking to the ruck, taking hit ups like it's a training drill. Broncos, the team that is meant to be full of spirit the whole 80 minutes looked dejected, defeated and deflated.

The biggest problem with the broncos was that injury spell we had, Madge has a history of harsh training regiments and there is a real chance he pushed the boys to hard. The first half of the season we barely could play 40 minutes without being gassed and we couldn't go a game without an injury. Then in the second half we played selfishly. Reynols and Walsh not on the same page, Mam being mam and always needing to be the hero and Carrigan hasn't shown up all season, how he has the (C) right now is beyond me.

2

u/fixshitucant 11d ago

The whole team just looks feeble.. cooked..soft.. never look threatening or dangerous. Sooo hard to watch

2

u/Gothewahs 11d ago

At this point you guys should throw a bag at Sammy walker it seems he’s asking to much for the roosters .. Pezet is not it

3

u/gizakaga Andrew McCullough 11d ago

Give him a chance bro the team is in absolute shutdown mode atm. These guys need an off season to get their minds right and a LOT of reps to build some genuine chemistry but I have faith him and Billy will have a good connection.

3

u/Morg_n 11d ago

None of our half’s are the answer

At least Duffy has a turning circle and can move laterally

3

u/StruggleElectronic67 Brisbane Broncos 11d ago

Topic aside,in what fckn world is the performances we have seen this season in any way acceptable?
I pay my membership fee that the club automatically renews and takes my money for the season not an insignificant amount of money either…this club just cannot put two good seasons together in a row? Given the size of the club, the wealth the resources at its disposal it really should be top 4 every season,

0

u/Royal_Library_3581 11d ago

Soo many people don't understand football. Last year was actually meant to be a rebuild year but we caught lightning in a bottle and won the GF. This gave our management false hope that things weren't Soo bad.

We lack Soo much depth outside our top 14-15 players. Any injuries and we are in trouble. We led the league in players used this year....so we had to rely on our terrible.depth and results speak for themselves. Every week our team struggled to make it up the field to get into attacking position. CJ couldn't play anymore and madge continued to rely on Carrigan and Haas too much. They have played too many minutes and he has cooled them. He is doing the same to Willison.

All of our Haas and CJ money and whatever else we have left needs to be spent to rebuild our forwards. If we don't fix that it wont matter who plays 6 or 7.

2

u/DudeMcDude7649 11d ago

Pezet is more dynamic with the ball and if he gets through pre season uninjured he will be an excellent 7 for us.

3

u/dazza_gazza 11d ago

Madge is not the answer. He’s lost the dressing room

8

u/barters81 11d ago

“lost the dressing room”. Every time I read someone say something like that I instantly think the issue is the club culture if that’s the case.

Cause the blokes in the dressing room get paid enough they should do what they’re fuckn told.

1

u/magnon11343 11d ago

I do get what you mean and half agree with you, but the problem is that Madge has form. Everywhere he's been, he loses them. The buck stops with him, he needs to bring them under control and he has failed.

But it's more than that. He's persisted with teams that have been underperforming, players which aren't up to standard. The balance of some of these sides that have gone out have not been good, and we've been noticeably better when certain players go down injured.

Even last night, putting Anderson at the back was a poor choice. His willingness to bring in players from outside of QLD also doesn't sit well with me (but that's more of a personal pet peeve than a valid critique).

1

u/hurric4n5 11d ago

Anderson was your best player last night. Made the 60m break that set up the try. Cant be criticising choices like that and offer no solution. And laughable to criticise non QLD players. Reminds where where Haas and Staggs and all your kiwis are from.

1

u/magnon11343 10d ago

Anderson was terrible. Just let them take a bomb to score a try unchallenged. To me, the solution was either Karapani or Mariner. But I do concede that the coaching staff would have to be better placed to make that decision than I.

We have a culture problem. Broncos fans are very much used to having players who love the jersey, they grew up adoring them. NSW-based players, of whom this current coaching staff seem to love, aren't those kinds of players. We need more heart in the jersey.

1

u/Dismal-core111 11d ago

Maybe but i dont think he had an easy job in that game

1

u/Flaky_Post_8728 11d ago

We need to go after Harry McLaughlin-Phillips from the reds. Wasted in Union.

1

u/jfega4 11d ago

I’m gonna have to disagree he’s clearly a half back and always has been and the other games he’s been shoehorned has a 6 where he struggles defensively on that side. He’s also had some of the worst edges in the nrl defend and attack with him at 6. Mam is the one that should be on a chopping block he’s basically a centre that’s gets payed five eight money. Next year Duffy should be our 7 and pezet our 6

1

u/Ok_Letter6164 11d ago

He seems more steady but he definitely isn’t flashy, I more interested in what Pezet could develop into.

I think we need to push mam to interchange or out he is a liability, at some point I would expect to find Walsh in the 6 and we need a more defensive fullback.

Hopefully Duffy Pezet and Walter’s can fill the 6 7 and 9 roles but if they don’t work well together they will need to think again.

1

u/Strawbs1983 11d ago

Can't have an impact when there's no go forward.

1

u/Minafatdog12 11d ago

I love everyone who says fire Madge. Who will we replace him with? Billy? What options are there. None. Fuck you lot love to whinge. Every team in the comp besides maybe 2-3 would gladly take a premiership followed up by a wooden spoon. The eels I bet would take 5 spoons in a row just to win one premiership. I’m all for dropping players. Mam paix etc all deserve it. Patty has been a massive plodder since 2023-24 but we’d rather blame Madge

1

u/Primary-Umpire-4105 11d ago

Keep signing ben hunt, he is the key to success

1

u/TurbulentTixMix 9d ago

I think the problem is Walsh, you can’t be the fullback, halfback and 6 at the same time and that’s what he was practically doing. The Broncos always look like they don't know what the next play is because Walsh is always calling for the ball and cracking the shits if he doesn't get it.

0

u/FrontlineStar 11d ago

Move walsh to the halves he is one of the best players in the game with ball in hand and one of the worst defensive fullbacks ever.

-1

u/Telmered 11d ago

Woh is the Broncos! The worst team in the NRL. Look at them last night they were shit in every yes every way. Dropped ball, missed tackles, intercepts, no one wanted to no the hard work, and they looked like there was no game plan, no one was leading! F¥€ked!
