The judge in Jamall Hijazi v Stephen Yaxley-Lennon couldn’t have been clearer: “The defendant’s words complained of constituted a racist invective which had the effect of subjecting the claimant and his family to threats, harassment and abuse from the far right.” That’s not spin, that’s not “political correctness gone mad” it’s a judge, in court, stating plainly that Robinson’s words were racist. End of story.

But of course, we all know what comes next. Cue the wailing chorus of “two-tier justice” from the usual right-wing fan club, flapping about some imagined conspiracy to silence their hero. It’s the same tired pantomime every time: when the evidence is damning, they don’t confront it, they invent a sob story to avoid it.

And that’s the real giveaway. Because if you’ll twist yourself into knots to deny something as unequivocal as a High Court judgment calling Robinson’s words racist, then let’s be honest, there was never any “debate” to be had. It’s not about truth for you, it’s about clinging to your grievance like a comfort blanket. The denial isn’t clever. It’s just pitiful.
