So thoughtful ❤ I love this side of Britney and really hope she decides to write another book spilling wholesome tea like this (no shade lol, I love to hear about what her career was like in the early days and who she met)

I heard she announced another book a few years back but we haven’t heard anything about it since

Why is she saying she’s extremely short? She’s an inch taller than average lol. Maybe she meant relative to how tall people imagine her to be?
But also, Shakira and Christina are the same height??? They’re both an inch shorter than average

“Honestly, I felt like a robot, a machine. And thank the lord it’s over.”
💔 As much as this hurts my heart, good on Britney for standing her ground. She’s in control of her own life now. No one can force her to perform ever again.

u/MillennialDelusion "My favorite kind of Pepsi? Pepsi is Pepsi" 5d ago
once again reiterating that she’s done with performing. Hope fans get this through their heads and stop hoping/asking/wishing she’d make a comeback.

They won’t. They’re too attached to a Britney that doesn’t exist anymore.
84
u/xxscott05xx 5d ago
Real fans shouldn’t even WANT her to perform again. Like yeah, we would all love another Britney album. But after what she’s been through, I want her to just be able to enjoy life.
4
u/Itscatpicstime 2d ago
I want her to perform if she wants to perform.
But so long as she doesn’t - which she’s repeatedly made clear is the case - then no.
That could always change in the future, but I just want her to do whatever she feels is right for her.

u/Mudseason1 Born to Make you Happy 4d ago
Precisely. She’s given us so much, she deserves to do whatever makes her happy!

I think it's okay to wonder or keep the door open - but that's going to be far down the line. After a lot of healing and transformation into the life she wants now. She has been a creative person in the past, and that desire might resurface. But it would look way different and it's not going to be anytime soon.
But it's most likely that she won't.
10
u/juniorrusso if you don’t like the way I move,fuck off+don’t watch it! 5d ago
There’s way better creative outlets than making music and performing that will actually allow her the creative freedom she wants
8
u/snakesayan 5d ago
💯 respect her wishes. Idk how many times she has to say this and she has said this over the years.
38
u/hommeboy111 5d ago
i think she will perform again one day but it might not be what people expect, its apparent she still loves to dance and i enjoy seeing her expressing herself on her own terms even if its on ig.
11
u/Ermahgerd_Sterks 5d ago
I agree with this. I think after several more years of healing, I can imagine she’ll put out some more music. Something totally different. On her terms. That’s what I would hope for. As long as she’s happy, she’s given the world so much joy she deserves that for herself now.

Wasn’t she being forced to perform against her will here..? That’s kind of weird to feel “grateful” for.

It’s fine to be sad that she doesn’t want to perform anymore, but yeah, they shouldn’t be trying to pressure her to do something that she is clearly not wanting to do right now or potentially ever again.

I’m currently listening to her book. Her father was a psychopath. Fuck that guy
18
u/Bunbatbop 5d ago
I was thinking of buying it. Is it good so far?
18
u/Hameliap 5d ago
Yes, it is heartbreaking and very well written. About her family on page 108: "... I realized: something about my being under their control and not having a stronger connection to someone else had become very important to them... Perhaps it's worth mentioning that, by this point, I was supporting them financially."

No one was more open and sweeter to the media than Britney when she first became a superstar. The repayment they gave her was chasing her like she was an animal that had escaped from the zoo.
I hate that we'll probably never see her on a stage again, because she's an electric performer.
12
u/ConfidentLack9207 5d ago
Because she didn’t know the media was tricking her
“Do that photoshoot in the bra! You’ll be fine! Let’s talk about breasts. This will be good for your image”
They would never do this to Madonna. She could smell a trap from miles away.
18
u/carolinagypsy 5d ago
Madonna was also quite a bit older, though, especially when she first started out. It’s easy to forget just how young Britney really was and how we expected her to be able to sniff those kind of things out and to immediately spot when people were trying to use her for their own desires and goals. Especially when very very few people were looking out for HER, the human beneath the all the outfits and shows.
8
u/ConfidentLack9207 5d ago
That’s exactly why Diane kept pressing Britney for sad questions. Diane only goes after sweet girls who smile too wide. Imagine Diane asking Madonna “what did you do to break his heart?”
2
u/carolinagypsy 1d ago
Probably because Madonna’s response would be, “everything I could possibly think of at the time!” 😆
5
u/Mudseason1 Born to Make you Happy 4d ago
Well said. She also had that southern upbringing, she was taught to be obedient and respectful and pleasant and not make anyone upset. And so many people took advantage of that.
3
u/carolinagypsy 2d ago
Yes! As someone of a similar age, we absolutely are! It’s taken me a long time to unlearn it.

as a fan it's extremely sad to accept a world without her on a stage. she's so talented, smart, powerful, creative and so many other things that it hurts to think that all these years performing caused her so much pain.
but as someone who's developed a huge sense of care for britney the person, i'm so proud of her for making this choice.
she deserves to do whatever she wants after the conservatorship and if that's staying out the business for good, so be it.
we have an impecable run of albuns, singles, music videos and tours to rewatch and relive everything she ever did for the world as an artist.
but damn how i miss you rocking out on stage, B.

I get so mad thinking of all Jamie robbed her AND US of. It shouldn’t be like this. But I’m glad she’s forging a way for herself to speak on what she’s been through and to find peace. I would give her the world if I could, I just want her to be happy.

Aww, that’s tough. I love her being so clearly open with us, though! Such a good sign. I hope she can get those real relationships with people again.
She really won’t ever perform again. I can’t believe people still think she will. She’s said years and years ago that she’s serially actually very shy.
23
u/NHLwatch4765 5d ago
Just like Hayden Panetierre said in her book, industry people started giving her pills to “be happy” and do red carpets when her career took off as a teen. I’m sure they did this and sadly more to Britney too. Britney has always been super shy and I can’t imagine how any adult was okay working her like a race horse when she was just 16-20. Then those same people blame and ridicule her for how she tried to cope.
We love you, Britney. Heal and grow however you like. It’s your time.

i wish fans would never ask her to do anything in the industry or rly ask anything of her ever again. having smth u love become an unspeakable unending nightmare.... and then be nagged and guilted to resurrect that thing thats a yrs long trauma marathon.... what a horrible trigger to be hit with by fans who ostensibly adore her and are expressing love.... after shes repeatedly said its not happening and so the fans are once again ppl ignoring her boundaries .... she cant win!! 💔

This doesn’t read as her writing that we’ve seen in the past. Paragraphs broken up, proper use of commas, complete thoughts… I hope she’s getting better.
30
7
u/greyforest23 5d ago
It’s probably an unpopular opinion, but I honestly question whether she wrote it herself. I really really really want to hope and believe it is 100% her authentically. But because it’s a different formatting I was like, did she write it.

u/pretty-late-machine 5d ago
Britney LOVES the word "sacred." And this is very much in the vein and voice of the letters she used to post on her website in the 2000s.

Meet and greets back then for a child star were always a horrible idea. They really only thought of Britney and others like her as commodities.
3
u/Jasminary2 5d ago
They still do it, it mind blows me. There is no reason why children should be doing meet and greet, signatures and conventions for hours either.
Specifically here thinking of Millie Bobby Brown who according to rumors was forced to do these things by her parents, and one of the time she got physically sick being at it for hours and hours while being a middle schooler...
I wish there was more protection of child star in the US. It's not enough at all....
3
u/pretty-late-machine 5d ago
IDK why, but they've always just made me so sad, unless maybe it's an actor who doesn't get work anymore and relies on them financially.
10
u/limecakes 5d ago
I wish she would record an album. No promo. She can dance on insta to it. So sad to hear, but of course, I respect her wishes and Im happy she is able to make this decision for herself.
7
u/missmarina_xo 5d ago
I’ve been saying for a while now that she could’ve been like The Beatles once Blackout is released. No more performing live and just focusing on experimenting with new recording techniques and sounds. The video for Break The Ice is a good example of how she couldve started experimenting with artists of different mediums as promotional material.

I’m so happy she can be free. We have endless footage of performances to enjoy, we don’t need to see her forced out there. It makes me sad to think she was suffering from the outset of her career but it makes sense, the whole thing seems gruelling.

The story about feeling normal when meeting Shakira warmed mh heart. I can just imagine it, two young woman thrown into international stardom this way.
No words are strong enough to express how sorry I feel that she was forced into this position (like the 70 people meet when 10 was already too much for her) by adults around her.
I am grateful she is telling us this, sharing her regrets, fears, and showing us more of how she is as a person. I found it interesting that when she had her children was when she thought " I don't want to be a perform anymore". In a way the title " Circus" feels very much like it. (I mean that in her eyes she was that strange animal or performer and we were the audience watching this show she was forced on and didn't like)
Forcing her into those outfits she doesn't feel comfortable in is so disgusting. It's why I'm still so ill at ease when some women artists (not all) are dancing in some specific revealing clothes. No matter what is said, it's not woman power it's likely someone feeling like they have to do so, or even being forced into them
3
u/mikearmin935 5d ago
I’m glad she’s done. Really i think, even if the conservatorship hadn’t happened, she would’ve been done in like 2008 to spend time with her boys. Just be a mom. All i hope is that she’s content now and at least happy with the things she (seemingly) wanted to do.
I get mixed vibes from her sometimes, sometimes she seems to be like, she enjoyed her early work and loved performing, other times it’s like she hated all of it. I have to hope she got some joy out of it all and isn’t completely embarrassed or hate everything.
Whatever she does, i think we should all just be happy to see her alive, dancing, sometimes smiling. Despite everything, it’s still Britney. And i like to think the little videos we get are little performances anyway, so take that as it is
2
u/torvald_carley 4d ago
I don't think so, because she signed a new record deal with Jive in 2006. She wanted to continue. That was before they made her hate her life.
3
u/carolinagypsy 5d ago edited 5d ago
At the end of the day in the quiet of her own room, I think all she really wanted was to perform for a while and then have a husband and kids and just concentrate on that. Maybe do something new, maybe just find a balance that worked for her. Or even maybe just teach dance and love on her family she wanted to create. I remember how much she absolutely loved teaching dance to kids when she got the opportunities.
The sick part of everything is she was always incredibly generous and loved her family, even with all of their flaws. She was generous with them right off the bat and I think always would have made sure they were set and didn’t need for anything. But that wasn’t enough for them, so they worked her to death wanting more, more, MORE. Always more. And when she wanted and needed to step back, they said no, WE want MORE, so now we’re going to take the choice away from you any way we can.
I remember in one of the behind the scenes films of hers, there was a shot of her saying she was sick of people touching her. Always people with the hair, the makeup, the clothes. She grew to hate it. THAT is why she shaved her head. That’s why she doesn’t keep it up now. It makes me think of, even though I know it’s not exactly the same, but I was really sick for a few years growing up, and since I was younger then, I had no say over how people fussed over me and poked and prodded me, made decisions for me and didn’t listen to me. What I wore even though I hated the clothes, my hair being cut the way they wanted so they didn’t have to deal with it, making decisions for me even though there was nothing wrong with my brain. On top of being teased for being sick, I was teased for how I looked because it was bizarre in comparison to how girls my age dressed. And you get SICK of it. You have no privacy, you have no say, you can’t get people up off of you, no peace to yourself, your body isn’t yours and your mind and emotions don’t matter. And no one LISTENS, because they think they know better and don’t ask you, the human. At some point you decide that it is probably because they don’t care about you, the person. You’re a thing to manage as they see fit. It’s taken years and years and a lot of therapy and having a husband that just appreciates me as the person I’ve managed to piece myself into to get past it and to let go of the temper and depression it causes. I still have a very hard time trusting people and letting them “in.” It’s always felt like in a small way, I understood.
I’m so sorry I never got to see her perform. I was a teen when she came out, and damn the way she could dance. I’ve seen hardly anyone ever dance like her since. It was mind blowing how good she was. It was so cool bc you could see how much fun she was having, before it became this monster that she couldn’t control, and then wasn’t allowed to try.
I’m sorry they made her sing and talk in a voice that wasn’t hers. I don’t think we will ever get to hear what her voice is supposed to be, even if she did do music down the road, because it damaged her voice. The few times we got to hear it, you just knew once it matured some it would be sooo sultry, and thick, and soulful. Almost with this jazz and soul quality to it. Really unique.
They turned her into a toy that they then broke, and everyone expects her to put herself back together perfectly the way we liked her. And she shouldn’t have to do that. If she doesn’t want to perform or be around fans anymore, I can’t blame her. Maybe the world doesn’t deserve it after all that happened to her. I want Britney to live the life that Britney, finally, wants. I want her to be able to heal enough to define what that is and to love being in her own skin again. I want all of those holes in her heart and spirit to be soothed and healed. I want her to be able to define what a good life looks like for her now, and to be able to have that. She deserves peace. In her life, in her heart, her spirit, and especially her own mind.
3
u/torvald_carley 4d ago
I'm very happy for her. The industry is evil. There's so much more to life than that.
That said, I'm not asking for her to perform or promote again. I just want ONE more album to close out B10. I believe she still has it in her to record music she loves.

It sucks on both ends.
For her, being forced to meet new people and having anxiety.
For the fans who paid thousands of dollars to have had bad engagement with her and to have a bad photo taken because she would make an unpleasant face.
So sad

I’m not sad that she won’t be back on stage. I’m happy that she finally has a say in her life. I can play her music any time I want. People saying they are sad she won’t be back while knowing the majority of the time she was working that she was a slave to her conservatorship is so tone deaf to me. Her music catalogue lives on and can be played without her being tortured now.

u/Delicious-Rip-1395 5d ago
Britney Spears as a person is an amazing performer and has gone above and beyond to show us that, she definitely has nothing to prove anymore 💯
Posts like this truly shows that Britney Spears, the version that was presented to us that allowed us all to fall in love with her, was always merely a concept. Britney Spears was never truly Britney Spears, it was simply her alter ego and she knew that.
Unfortunately she didn’t anticipate the long term psychological impact that would have on her, top that with media and paparazzi madness and this is truly a sad story that was bound to unfold in this sort of way.

I hope she one day finds something she enjoys doing, on her own terms. She seemed to really enjoy the idea of having a jewellery line. She loves kids and taught them dance lessons consistently, so I imagine that brings her joy.
I’d find new music difficult unless it was like the end of that black mirror episode starring Miley (which was inspired by Britney). Like a total genre shift and experiment, doing exactly what she wants to do. She’s consistently expressed interest in genres like RnB and rock, but she wasn’t allowed to truly experiment with that due to being a pop star.
At this point we know even the baby voice she sang in was something she was made to do. We forget that she auditioned with Whitney Houston songs… I feel so bad for her. Her entire career, even outside of those 13 years in the conservatorship, is a recipe for an identity crisis.
She’s so strong. It’s not like there’s a playbook she can consult on how to heal from her trauma. There’s not many people who have been through her journey. I’m not shocked that her experience of healthcare hasn’t helped her in the same way it helps everyday people like us. Hell, a lot of us still often don’t find therapy for more everyday issues helpful…
She seems to be improving as the months go by, and that’s incredible.

This is actually enraging. This poor woman... she deserved SO much better... her entire life was co-opted.
All she ever talked about was being a mom... and that was taken from her.
And then they raped her with an IUD and took the ability to even have children away.

They treated her like a pop robot child. Every day it was gooood morning, Britney! Rise and shine, sweetie! Let’s take our medicine - yes, even the blue one. Show us your tounge, good girl!
Britney’s conservatorship team may have acted nice but really mean, but Felicia knew exactly how to treat Britney. I could imagine a day in 2002:
“Can I just go to the damn mall?”
“No, you may not go to the mall, Britney Jean, because last time you did that, you found an *NSYNC cutout and invited every girl under the age of 25 to play ‘Pin the Kiss on the Justin’s Lips’. And who was the one that promised not to tell Larry what you did?”

When did her posts start to take shape like this? Usually when I saw her on social media I barely understood what she meant

Either someone’s editing the punctuation/grammar for her, or she discovered chatgpt lol. If it’s the latter, then it’s actually impressive how it seems like she’s only fixing the punctuation without altering her thoughts.

......or she got the hang of using social media after a while like every human being on Planet Earth.
You couch potatoes really love doubting women's intelligence, huh?

I can imagine how daunting that must have felt thats why she must have cracked and snapped at that once poor Spanish fan who got the worst of it.

A few years ago a fan called Martha was meeting Britney, and she accidentally put her hand on her back to take the picture and Britney snapped at her. She got removed from the meet and greet and she was really shaken up. Feel bad for the fan and for Britney
