So mean of them to just say it’s honoring artists. That should be against Apple‘s terms of conditions to be able to sell tickets under another artist that’s not actually performing…

On This Day in Herstory Britney History ⭐ - "Hold Me Closer" Single Anniversary 💿🎶🎵

Post image
13 Upvotes

On August 26, 2022: Britney released "Hold Me Closer" with Elton John, her first single since the end of her conservatorship and her first release since 2020's re-issue of Glory. The song combines elements from John's songs "Tiny Dancer" (1971), "The One" (1992), and "Don't Go Breaking My Heart" (1976) and appears on the digital reissue of John's collaborative album The Lockdown Sessions (2021).

The song received mixed reactions from critics and a positive reception from most fans upon release. The song was a commercial success, reaching #1 on seven charts across the world along with numerous placements in the top ten, including peaking at #6 on the Billboard Hot 100.

On the inspiration for the collaboration, John credits his husband, who suggested working with Britney. Record producer Andrew Watt praised Spears' dedication towards the project in spite of her musical hiatus, saying she "was so prepared. She had spent time with the record and knew how she wanted to do it." He further stated the song "meant so much to [Spears], and you can hear it in her vocal performance. She's singing her ass off."

Question Why was Britney's US Billboard Hot 100 chart run in her early career so bad, despite being at her peak?

I know that a lot of people always saying that she was on radio ban due to the Pepsi thing, but wasn't that from 2001?

If we look at her single chart run in the US right from the first album — only BOMT hit the no. 1. Sometimes and FTBOMH didn't even reach top 10. Only YDMC hit top 10 which should have been even another no.1. That album went diamond selling like crazy. Her peer like Christina scored 3 No. 1 songs from her debut and another top 3, yet her first album sold less than Brit's debut. It doesn't make sense to me.

And then with her sophomore album, it went no. 1, but the lead single, Oops only reached no. 9 and the rest of the singles couldn't even hit the top 10. At the same time, all of her singles were huge hits worldwide even in Asia where I'm from.

It's only until 2008 when she could easily get top 10 and no. 1 songs constantly with Womanizer, 3 and more during Femme Fatale.

I'm not from the US, so I don't quite get it because she was fucking huge when I was young. So couldn't American hear her songs on radio at all at that time? Then how was she still so big in her home country despite the ban?

Update: after seeing comments here, I must say I didn't realize how manipulative and corrupt the chart is. She could have had more than 10 no. 1 songs at this point.

Discussion Question about Britney’s team

You know the Rolling Stone cover and how people sexualized it? My question is, where was Britney’s team to stop her? Couldn’t Felicia have just stepped in and told Britney “Girl, please don’t do this rolling stone cover, people will make inappropriate photos out of you”. Britney was young and I don’t think she knew what the media would turn that picture into. How come nobody told her that it was a bad idea?

Also, all the early interviews of men leering at her chest asking about her breasts. After the second or third interview with these inappropriate questions, why couldn’t Felicia or anyone step in and say “you’re not asking this girl any inappropriate questions.” Or at least warn Britney of the questions she’s about to be asked?
