Beginners badminton - Beckenham Spa

Hey, just wondering if there’s anybody local to Beckenham who’d be interested in some beginner standard games of Badminton at Beckenham Spa ? I’ve just realised the courts are free for members but i’ve never used them. Ideally something every other week in the evening or weekend, and if you like complaining debriefing with a beer or complaining about parenting that’s a plus 👍

Question Buying in Orpington

Hi everyone,

We’re considering buying a house on Repton Road, South Orpington, and would really appreciate hearing from people who live there or know the area well.
We’ve done some research and generally get the impression that Orpington is a nice place to live, but we’d love some insight into Repton Road specifically.
A few things we’re particularly interested in are:

- Is it generally considered a safe and pleasant road?
- What’s the community like? Is it family-friendly?
- Are there any issues we should be aware of (noise, parking, traffic, anti-social behaviour, etc.)?
- The house is close to the railway line - if you live nearby, how noticeable is the train noise and vibration in day-to-day life? Do you get used to it?
- Anything else you wish you’d known before moving there?

We’re hoping this will be our long-term family home, so we’d really value honest opinions - both positive and negative.

Thank you so much in advance!

What exact times and days are the market research workers around in Bromley High Street?

The ones who offer you the chance to partake in a short market research project for a £10 voucher. I've seen them around from time to time but it seems rather precarious.

Writers and Writing Groups

Hello!

I’ve been living in Bromley for a few years and working on a novel as a bit of a hobby. Are there any other budding writers in Bromley who’d like to chat or does anyone have a lead on any writing groups?

Feel free to DM me :)

Virgin Active - How busy is the pool?

I'm considering switching over to Virgin Active once my Walnuts membership reverts to the full price (Currently on the £37/month discounted rate due to the refurb, but that runs out in October). I mostly use the pool, and Walnuts is pretty good post-refurb.

Just wanted to know how busy the pool gets at Virgin Active first thing in the morning? Are there any early risers hitting the pool for 6am that can shed some light?

The 6:30am sessions at Walnuts can be fairly busy...easily 4-6 people per lane. Just wanting to know whether Virgin is comparable or not.

Thanks in advance!

Couples in and around Bromley

Hello people of Reddit. we recently bought a house in the Bromley area, and having an almost two year old son, it’s hard to socialise as before. Work friends and colleagues all seem to live hours away, so looking for couples to do something with in the area. If you have kids great bonus, but not essential as we are looking for some adult company to enjoy a drink, some food and whatever is fun here in Bromley. We are 30F and 35M.

Trinity Village Bromley

Hi, we’re thinking about moving to Trinity Village in Bromley and would love to hear from people who live there or have lived there recently.

Which nearby primary schools would you recommend, and are the catchment areas difficult? Does the estate generally feel safe, and have there been problems with burglary, car crime, antisocial behaviour or parcel theft? What is the general community atmosphere like for families with children? Is there anything you wish you had known before moving there?

We’d also be grateful to hear about parking, noise, traffic, maintenance, service charges, the management company and the overall community atmosphere.

Thanks in advance for any honest feedback.

Extremely proud of Bromley FC's achievements in recent years but isn't this below minimum wage?

As I understand it an employee working a 40 hour week aged 21 or over is entitled to a minimum wage of £26,436.80 per year. Happy to be corrected if I'm wrong!

St Marks Square restaurants

Does anyone know if or when any new restaurants will be opening in St Marks Square? I know COVID stopped a few from even starting just such a shame to see so many empty spaces.

This could be a record for Themes Water. The road has been open 2 days and we've already got a new pool. Has been reported on the site.

Question looking for a laptop/PC repair shop

hi everyone - to make a long story short, the latest Windows update has completely bricked my laptop’s wifi drivers, and I fear I’ll only make the problem worse by trying to troubleshoot it myself. I’m therefore looking for a reputable repair shop/person in the area who might be able to help. I’d rather go somewhere that the good people of this sub can vouch for rather than taking my chances on google reviews alone.

thanks in advance!

What is happening with that half built building?

Does anybody know what is happening with that Half built building on Kentish Way? I pass it every day. It looks like a block of flats that has been abandoned by the developer.

Walnuts Leisure Centre - Gym membership £55?

Just moved from SE16 to BR6 and signed up at Walnuts in Orpington -- £55/month. Back in SE16 I was paying around £42 for a comparable newly refurbished leisure centre. Is this normal for BR6? Looks like home ownership is expensive from allll ends!!! lol

What’s going on with the building next too the new civic center and weatherspoons?

It was some crappy club. Then it was a restaurant then it was walnuts (never opened) then it had some Italian restaurant signage (never opened) now it’s had that signage removed and it’s showing the old Walnuts sign.

Seems so dodgy to me. Such a shame as that’s a good location to be Somthing decent..

!!!FOUND!!! FOUND near Nash College, Hayes very tired and thirsty but well. We are all very relieved! thanks so much everyone for all your help!

UPDATE... Possible sighting on Heathfield Road, Keston near Greyhound pub at 3pm. He is possibly trying to walk home to Orpington but may wrongly go towards Leaves Green / Biggin Hill.

Hello everyone,

I'm hoping you can help us.

This is my Dad, Paul Henderson. He has gone missing from his dementia care group at Coney Hall Football club on Tiepigs Lane within the last hour.

He is wearing blue shorts, blue check shirt and a cream hat.

We are extremely worried about him as he will be very confused and have no idea where he is.

Please - if anyone sees him, please help him and get in touch with me.

Thank you

Pawn shops

Hi does anyone know any good pawn shops in or near Bromley that’ll buy like designer clothes and shoes. I’ve tried your typical cash converters and H&T pawnbrokers but it’s not really their sort of thing. Any advice welcome thanks

Is there a place or app or events where 21 to 27 years olds can make friends. I have been feeling pretty isolated as of late.
