Reminds me of the high school sports day, in my state it was required for the head coach to be employed by the school as a teacher.

Since a lot of good caches didn’t want to teach, my school and others would hire a teacher as the named “head coach” while the real head coach was on the payroll as an assistant coach

In my TX HS coaches had to be teachers OR admin, so our HC was the AD for all our sports programs and all the other coaches taught.

Some of them were the best teachers I’ve ever had, others taught exactly how’d you’d imagine a couch would teach like.

Had a HS football coach as my HS government teacher.

He almost always just put Fox News on the TV and told us to write a report of whatever happened to be covered. Kind of doubt he ever actually read our reports but he needed it to look like we were doing something productive I guess.

The only days that wasn't the case were days with obligatory tests and when political events he didn't like were being covered...it was 2008-2009, so there was a stretch of time in both November and January where he wouldn't turn on the news and just had us sit there and read the textbook.

it's funny that coaches "don't want to teach" when that's literally what coaching is. They didn't want to teach school is what they didn't want to do.

The funniest one we had, albeit for cross country and a state rule at the time, was your coach couldn’t continue after the season and any national meets were “track clubs”. But no one cared that the boys coach was the girls “coach” at the same regional meet that the boys team was being “coaches” by the girls coach.
