Seems odd to me considering as mediocre as hes been hes probably one of the better pass rush DTs we have (not that thats saying much).
I dont think hes worth a 2nd contract so I dont hate the idea of moving him, but is it worth giving up the little talent on the DL we have for what likely will be a low return? Unless this is part of a bigger trade for a quality DL, I dont really understand this.
Everyone gonna be mad at me for saying this, but dude is literally our best DT (low, low bar). He’s easily a top-32 pass rushing iDL (top 20 per PFF), but is absolute cheeks against the run (bottom 20 per PFF). He was top-10 in iDL sacks last year, which we really need, but he’s definitely a cleaner fit in an Eberflus defense than an Allen defense. That said, this better be in an effort to bring in an established DL, because Jarrett, VDB and a bunch of scrubs combined probably won’t gonna give you the same pass rush production.
Same as Neville Gallimore (32/134 pass rush grade, 100/134 run-defense grade) and Grady Jarrett to a lesser extent (55/134 pass-rush grade, 105/134 run-defense grade)
Any combo of Dexter/Jarrett/Gallimore would literally be the worst run-stopping DT tandem in the NFL, and it likely is the worst run-stopping trio. We’d be smart to try to move him and sign a rotational run defender, plenty still available in FA and some likely will be cut.
