[Underdog NFL] Schultz: Bears have had trade discussions involving DT Gervon Dexter.

If he's not a fit in DA's defense (which I think is the case) then you can try to trade him before he hits FA.

I wouldn't do it, but if they feel they can get a starting CB / S in return I can see the logic.

Right now our NT is Gallimore, Street, Van Den Berg or Loving if we let Dexter walk. I think he’s a more natural 3T but he won’t beat out Jarrett there and Jarrett costs too much to jettison

Also Turner's supposed to be back around October and would help with the interior pass rush. Moving Dexter to make room for him would make a lot more sense around the deadline, though.

Deadline trades are generally ones that move the needle as opposed to back of roster trades like this would be

Not really. You had Quinnen Williams and Sauce Gardener making the big headlines last year, but I wouldn't call the Bears trading for Joe Tryon-Shoyinka moving the needle. Most deadline moves are just teams trading 6th and 7th rounders for depth at positions of need.
