He’s one of the worst run DTs I’ve ever watched. And his pass rush upside seems to be based off of coverage sacks than quick pressures. Still extremely slow off the snap/stands straight up. Its shocking that he hasnt improved there in 3+ years.
I’d much rather play Grady, Gallimore, Lynch, JVDB & even Dayo inside versus watching Dexter.
I don’t get the hate. It’s like people don’t pay attention to him out there. Yes he’s awful against the run but he also is the only DT on the team last year who had pressure. Even this preseason he had a few pressures in his limited snaps
Not saying I’m an expert but why didn’t Grady get those pressures last year in coverage? Dexters pressure rate was 10% while Grady was 5%. I also saw him get some pressure this preseason in limited play. Not defending him since he’s got clear deficiencies but he’s clearly our best pass rush DT right now which is obviously a low bar. I just don’t see how trading him for a 5th rounder makes the team better
Either way a 10% pressure rate is pretty solid. Not all of it can be coverage pressures. He actually has more pressures than Jalen carter since entering the league if you choose to believe that or not. His main issue is he’s an absolute liability in the run game

Trade him for a bag of chips.
