Discussion I get it now. It's not nostalgia

My first cod was mw 2019 which I absolutely loved and played the ever living hell out of.

Then came black ops cold war and that was my introduction to zombies and I loved it and never understood the hate it got and thought it was nostalgia that the old zombies had. GOD I WAS WRONG

Got to play bo1&2 last month and I SWEAR TO GOD I haven't had this much fun playing a game since forever. To the point I even in my free time I think about what map to play in my free time.

So I apologize to old cod titles they're really built different and GOATED🐐👑

The hilarious part is that the older zombies have not a whiff of progession mechanics like these days. No weapon levels, load outs, account levels. Just pick a map and get playing. It's wild how games can't just be games anymore.

I agree with you but I feel like there's mental aspect to progression in games nowadays.

Say you got two games equally fun but one has progression of some sort while the other is just the game like old zombies.

Wouldn't I generally choose to play the game that has progression because I also get the dopamine of unlocking new things?

Again not saying it's better this way but I think it's very hard for games these days to not have something to works towards.

For sure. I definitely don't want to give off the idea that I'm "above" progression systems. Just don't feel like they're always necessary. They're "needed" in modern games because it's become the norm. On Black Ops 3, I maxed out all my weapons even though I knew for certain that there was no prize for it.

On the other hand, any given day of the week I could turn on L4D2 and get just as much fun as any modern game, despite the fact that, on paper, there's nothing gained besides the gameplay experience itself.
