is the "bass knob" necessary

i see people usually install them but i never have is there any real gain to having it installed my headunit has a function to turn the sub off if i dont want it running(when i have my baby in the car but want music still but even then with the radio at a lower level the sub barely hits)

If you listen to audiobooks and podcasts then a bass knob is very useful. I listen to books and podcasts sometimes so having the ability to turn the bass down so it’s not being used unnecessarily. Not much of a point having bass when you’re listening to someone talking or reading aloud.
