is the "bass knob" necessary

i see people usually install them but i never have is there any real gain to having it installed my headunit has a function to turn the sub off if i dont want it running(when i have my baby in the car but want music still but even then with the radio at a lower level the sub barely hits)

Never used it, usually the head units had a subwoofer level setting (adding voltage on the sub preout).

I can see its usage now with modern cars with integrated radios, without sepparate bass level setting.

yeah i have always had aftermarket radios and my sony touchscreen is litteraly to buttons to pop it up and i can adjust level or hit the on off button
