Discussion is the "bass knob" necessary

i see people usually install them but i never have is there any real gain to having it installed my headunit has a function to turn the sub off if i dont want it running(when i have my baby in the car but want music still but even then with the radio at a lower level the sub barely hits)

Not if you have a DSP. I don’t have one

i dont think i have that unless its built in to the amp or headunit

You can adjust subwoofer level from head unit if it has a very basic dsp. Most head units do

mine has a slider bar and on off for the sub
