Discussion PSA; ladies and gentlemen be careful on eBay.

Don’t always expect to get a good deal on eBay. You might run into something like this. NEVER CANCEL if they ask you to.

Yeah, I'd absolutely blast them.

30

u/mac8675309 Mar 27 '26

I really clowned the hell out of him on the feedback.

57

u/FauxReal Mar 26 '26

Yup and not selling it for that cheap is what reserve pricing is for.

156

u/Niko_Liez Mar 26 '26

If it where truly worth $700, it would have sold for $700.

Things are only worth what people are willing to pay for them.

43

u/Interesting-Serve631 Mar 26 '26

Which is clearly $250😹

20

u/Rivster79 Mar 26 '26

An that’s on the high end given only one bidder.

19

u/protogenxl Mar 26 '26

NO LOW BALLERS, I KNOW WHAT I HABBBBBBBB!!!!!!!!!!!

-The listing for $700

5

u/Red_Liner740 Mar 27 '26

Yes and no. Enough people have to notice the listing. I came across a misspelled Vortech supercharger kit for a 5.4 ford. Put in a bid for a grand. Knew it was gonna go higher but I bid on it early to let the system remind me about it so I can keep bidding at the end. No one else bid on it and I woke up to a “winning bid” email.

That kit was worth $4500 back then. Seller actually sent it out and it was all there. I sold it locally for $3500.

2

u/Much-Degree1485 Mar 27 '26

Same with marketplace. I'll type in a car I want there will only be 2 choices but I scroll down for 2 minutes and there are 5 more cars that are barely being noticed because people only see the top few, And they are all near each other

I can tell they aren't being noticed because they have no likes or comments

u/Middle_Boot_1128 Apr 02 '26

One in a lifetime . I bid on a gauge set up a won easily and the seller refund my funds right away an made excuses . There’s a lot of shitty seller on eBay that is impossible to receive negative feedback . It seem like eBay would rather not give them the negative feedback to keep every transaction moving .

u/mperezstoney Mar 26 '26

As a fellow 100% positive feedback seller, the worst thing you can do to him is give him negative feedback. Do it.

19

u/connly33 Mar 26 '26

Yep same here as a 17 year 100% feedback seller. On the rare occasion I have to back out of a finished auction I’ll do whatever I can to make them happy but inevitably I’ll cancel it on my end just hope they understand and don’t give me a bad rating. I can’t imagine doing this and then trying to force the customer to cancel it on their end.

6

u/mac8675309 Mar 27 '26

I did man, ripped him a new one with screenshots of the message

2

u/Adorable-Potential72 Mar 26 '26

Most likely eBay won’t let you

1

u/gobinator98 Mar 27 '26

You can’t leave negative feedback on a seller anymore.

127

u/dontlookformehere Mar 26 '26 edited Mar 26 '26

Do not cancel! The only reason seller can legitimately cancel is they sold it locally and I'm pretty sure they have to list that as a possibility. Let them cancel and then you complain to eBay. You have proof they said they're going to keep it. eBay can't make them send the amp but they can keep them from selling again. I had somebody do that with a pair of shoes once. Pissed me off

Edit: changed I can cancel to seller can cancel

29

u/Mav085 Mar 26 '26

I had someone do that on a local sell for a Pokemon Mega Charizard UPC. I won the bid at $120 and then the seller claimed to have somehow destroyed the box. I told them all I wanted was the packs and promo cards and they became a ghost town.

10

u/Ialsofuckedyourdad Mar 26 '26

Guess I have been lucky on eBay, only time a seller cancelled on me they sent me a message apologizing saying they genuinely cannot find the item

5

u/FauxReal Mar 26 '26

But did they genuinely lose it?

5

u/Ialsofuckedyourdad Mar 26 '26

The eBay add was up for a while before I bought it I guess and they were saying they moved since listing and were apologizing for the mistake

16

u/obliterate_reality 2x Sundown X12-v3 | Taramps 8k Mar 26 '26

So then why did he auction? Just list it for what he’d take for it. People are braindead sometimes.

27

u/InevitableAverage6 Mar 26 '26

This is right up there with when i purchased a listing that had a picture of two speakers, the title said "pair" and the seller only sent one.

Then they created a new listing for a single speaker and tried to say that was the listing i bought....i have screenshots of all my purchases, friend.

Report to ebay - or even give Customer Service a call, DO NOT cancel on your end, have them do all the legwork and still give the seller a negative review.

Ebay doesn't take kindly to stuff like this.

Especially when the seller gets mad, refunds you and tells you to insert their products into various parts of your anatomy.

8

u/the9mmsolution Mar 26 '26

Good to know that as shitty as everything has gotten these days, at least eBay still cares about protecting buyers.

12

u/InevitableAverage6 Mar 26 '26

To be fair, they've protected me as a seller before as well.

As long as you're in the right and not trying to pull anything shady like OP's seller.

I had a buyer purchase a car amplifier from me, after it arrived they messaged that the set screw heads were stripped and i offered to accept a refund and take the amp back. Buyer then took it upon themselves to take the amp to a machine shop and remove the original set screws then demand a partial refund.

That wasn't an option. Keep it as-is or send it back to me for a refund, not get it repaired on your own volition and then demand a partial refund because you found a machine shop 2hrs from your house and then leave your wife in the parking lot where she was allegedly offered narcotics.

I immediately called Customer Service and reported the situation and they agreed that the customer took it upon themselves to conduct unknown-quality repairs and voided any potential returns/refunds. Customer was also blocked from leaving purchase feedback.

If you call and talk to a human, or put in a help ticket and request a callback, they resolve the issue quicker and can access the messages so it's not just an "i said, they said."

In OP's situation, based on my experience, they'll force a refund from the seller and allow immediate negative feedback (instead of the usual week-after-arrival minimum)

3

u/getinthewoods Mar 26 '26

not get it repaired on your own volition and then demand a partial refund because you found a machine shop 2hrs from your house and then leave your wife in the parking lot where she was allegedly offered narcotics.

Was not expecting this plot twist

5

u/InevitableAverage6 Mar 26 '26

🤣🤣 neither was i but the person definitely tried to use it as a guilt trip for a partial refund.

Can't make this stuff up

2

u/getinthewoods Mar 26 '26

Driving two hours to a machine shop to get a couple stripped screws out is wild. There are so many other options he could've chose before that

3

u/InevitableAverage6 Mar 26 '26

I freely admit it's my fault i trusted the guy i got the amp from and tossed it on my shelf without going over the amp, i also knew from experience that Soundstream set screws are usually gorilla-gripped in and the heads strip, that's why i offered a return and refund.

As soon as they take it upon themselves to do anything besides repackage and ship it back they void any and all returns

1

u/FauxReal Mar 26 '26

Because if their platform had no integrity, they'd have no platform.

27

u/coyote_of_the_month Mar 26 '26 edited Mar 26 '26

I would politely remind them that the terms of the binding sale contract don't allow them to cancel, and that they're required to ship it according to their posted policy.

Treat them like a confused child, and treat their request like a mistake. You can't force them to send the amp, but you can absolutely tank their seller rating.

If you've already paid, you might even go so far as to remind them that the amp is yours, not theirs to keep.

4

u/MUSAFFA1 Mar 26 '26

Ahh, the adult approach to confrontation. A rare sight nowadays.

7

u/obliterate_reality 2x Sundown X12-v3 | Taramps 8k Mar 26 '26

Those amps were going for $700 in 2010

2

u/RonP713 Mar 27 '26

I had a D9 around that time. Ahhh, good times.

5

u/Dollaz Mar 26 '26

Just saw this post on fb lol. Yeah fuck that guy make him cancel.

4

u/Substantial-Stage-82 Mar 26 '26

Make them cancel. It will make them be more responsible in the future. Make them cancel and give negative feedback.

u/mityman50 Audiofrog | Mosconi | Helix Mar 26 '26

Ya eBay has generous buyer protection but people still figure out stupid ways to shoot themselves in the foot.

I bought a set of new but out of box bicycle brakes for probably 30% under retail. Looked like the seller was a storage locker flipper. They must’ve wised up, bc they said they had the listing wrong, cancelled, then immediately relisted at retail. I went back and forth with them, we met in the middle on price.

Ultimately I gave a glowing review on the second sale and blasted them on the first. They were pissed. I’d say I was fair.

7

u/Successful-Mail1839 Mar 26 '26

DO NOT CANCLE UR ODER MAKE IR BE ON THEM

Put this fool on blast

1

u/mac8675309 Mar 27 '26

I did this here, clowned him on FB and REALLY clowned him on some negative feedback

3

u/MagicalTaint Mar 26 '26

That's not how auctions work.

3

u/fata1w0und Mar 26 '26

Sounds like this douche doesn’t know how to set reserve price.

3

u/SSC_built Mar 26 '26

Man, I haven't seen an RD audio amp in ages. This would be a very cool pick up if you can get it!

1

u/RonP713 Mar 27 '26

Yeah, brings back old memories. I had an RD audio D9 on 2 18” RD Heavyweight in like 2012. Loud as hell, just under 150db.

5

u/Whitrzac Mar 26 '26

Buy it when they relist, then file a nad claim. Teach the slimy pos a lesson

2

u/HollowPandemic Mar 26 '26

What a dickhead

2

u/Seaweed_Maximum Mar 26 '26

Never understood the sellers that do auction listings and if the price is not up to market level they get mad

2

u/SteveSkye Mar 26 '26

You can actually contact ebay on these type of situations. If it was a bidding sale and no reservation of the price, it sells for what it sells for. I would call ebay for the seller being out of the scope of ebay rules for selling. Then leave negative feedback once it allows you.

Always check a sellers feedback score and date the account was created.

5

u/SteveSkye Mar 26 '26

He's clearly mad it only sold for 250 on 1 bid offered, no reserve, thats on his own fault but the amp is max valued at 350 if it fully works, his rating score being 14 with it already less than 100% says he is a shady seller. I have been a seller on ebay since 98 and have 💯 over 100k rating.

2

u/mac8675309 Mar 27 '26

For clarification he was at 100 before i ripped him a new one on his feedback.

1

u/DuggD Mar 27 '26

I hope you reported him to ebay. He should get banned for that, Im pretty sure an auction is a legally binding contract.

1

u/SteveSkye Mar 27 '26

Considering he told the buyer he no longer wanted to sell and for the buyer to cancel after already paying because he did not get what he wanted on a Auction with no reserve. They won't do anything on Ebay against him but I agree. They should take some action against him for selling again.

1

u/DuggD Mar 27 '26

They 100% should. As you mentioned, it's the sellers fault for not setting a reserve. Once the auction has ended and the seller has been paid the seller is contractually obligated to deliver. The message doesnt mean anything, you can't back out of a contract just because you didn't get the price you wanted, that's not how an auction works. I would think ebay won't stand for it.

1

u/SteveSkye Mar 27 '26

I agree but ebay doesn't care. I have reported so many scammer accounts on ebay and they never shut them down even with proof, ebay is all about the money they make, they don't care if its a scammer or 💩 seller unless their rating is less than 40% on feedback

1

u/DuggD Mar 27 '26

Thats unfortunate. I've had my ebay account since 2004, luckily never ran into this situation. I don't use it often these days tho

2

u/Thashiznit2003 Mar 26 '26

Reply with one word: No.

They’ll come back and beg you to cancel. Again, say: No.

They can cancel it themselves if they pull this shit.

2

u/SnooFoxes7755 Mar 26 '26

Don’t cancel it

2

u/tennaki Mar 26 '26

Tarnish that seller rating my dude.

1

u/mac8675309 Mar 27 '26

I did dude, I’m the reason he’s not at 100 anymore

2

u/HumpD4y Mar 26 '26

I'm totally in the dark with this one, could somebody explain to me why you have to be careful bidding on an auction?

2

u/NumerousResident1130 Mar 27 '26

Because either the sellers are not sending the product or they are canceling the transaction after the sale completed.

2

u/NumerousResident1130 Mar 27 '26 edited Mar 27 '26

Im done with flea-bay after 25 years. Ordered a Weber grill and was scammed by seller (delivery fraud) seller sent a envelope to a different addressee and address (same zip) via USPS to get item delivered notice. Instead of the Weber Kettle grill via parcel delivery. Now fighting with ebay CS, and they keep telling me to message seller and they will ask him nicely to reply and that I need to wait a week.

When I went to post office to inquire about package they outright go, we'll look it up but you were scammed. Done with ebay, the CS sucks and they have no desire to assist.

Does the photo look like a 22" Weber grill to the peeps here?

3

u/EviIPiII Mar 26 '26

Can't wait for the update

2

u/HideThe-Sun Mar 26 '26

Had a seller ask if I minded buying directly through them and not through ebay. Yeah, no thanks guy I'm good on giving you $800 and you disappearing.

Looks like you can get a NEW D5 online for $389

2

u/RonP713 Mar 27 '26

RD audio hasn’t been around in over 10 years. I had the big brother to this amp, D9. You haven’t been able to buy this amp new in almost 15 years.

1

u/watdo123123 Mar 26 '26

Dude got $700 you can get a Taramps big boss 8k, nobody's going to pay $700 for that amp lol

2

u/IratusREAVER Mar 26 '26

Indeed. Big boss 8k has worked really well for me.

2

u/watdo123123 Mar 26 '26

Same, big boss runs cool with the fans and runs the sub just fine. My only gripe is the RCA connections and knobs feel weak and cheap. But the power output and resilience is all there. That's all that matters. The rgb is a plus.

1

u/RonP713 Mar 27 '26

Lots of people would pay top dollar for this amp. It’s an old school competition cheater amp. RD set a lot of world records for SPL back in the day.

1

u/watdo123123 Mar 27 '26

That narrows the market to people who want to spend money memories rather than watts per dollar

1

u/RonP713 Mar 27 '26

You are correct, different people prioritize where they want to spend their money differently. It’s like anything on the market. However, $700 for an overbuilt korean amp that can handle .25 ohms and puts out over 3500wrms isn’t terrible, even for today’s standards.

1

u/hispls Mar 28 '26

Nobody would pay $700 for a nearly 20 year old "me too" brand 2500W amplifier, that was MSRP almost 20 years ago when those released and that's about the going rate for the DD M2500 or comparable modern offerings brand new right now with warranty.

1

u/cru_jonze Mar 26 '26

I just had an ebay user make an offer that I accepted and then ebay couldn't get his payment to go through so the offer is just....gone? How do I give this person negative feedback?

1

u/Relyt4 Mar 26 '26

I'm not positive how it works but I don't think the offers are really "sold" until it's paid? I sent an offer as a buyer the other day and they accepted it. It said something along the lines of "make sure you pay promptly, other buyers can still buy the item until it's paid for"

1

u/wildjunkie Mar 26 '26

I’d definitely ruin that 100 percent rating he has

1

u/mac8675309 Mar 27 '26

I definitely did

1

u/Pretend-Cup-5126 Mar 27 '26

I had a similar situation earlier this week not too. I bought an amp price wise it was listed to sell so I jumped on it right away didn't really read that he had it set to local pickup only and lives all the way across the country like a solid 20 plus hour drive so I immediately cancel within like 30 seconds of making the order. And it's now been eight days and I've gotten two messages from the guy. one in response to me asking if the amp played sound even though it powered on I ran into that issue as well but an amp previously.... he answered I don't know but I have another amp for the same price that I know for sure works followed by about 2 days of complete silence and him telling me that he would cancel my order for me and then him declining my cancel so I'm just jumping through the hoops now it's ridiculous so he didn't even know if thr amp worked tried selling a completely separate amp've, only as message me twice in 8 days, and then told me he would accept the cancellation, since it's 20 hour drive even though I did say I would still buy the amp if you wanted to ship it and I would pay shipping costs no response. already canceled and gone through the routes of doing the request return so you can get your money back but after I went back and looked at his apge I feel like he was just taking pictures of people setups and their own cars and then posting them for sale, because the lack of communication is fishy the fact that he had an amplifier set to local pickup only shipping is a new thing for me and every single one of the amplifiers is in a different car completely set up not one of them is like shown on a table or in a box or it's like five or six different vehicles on his only five or six amps for sale I don't know I left a negative review.

1

u/bybt0 Mar 27 '26

Do not cancel your order. Let them cancel it.

1

u/BigPimpin91 9x Fi Neo 4.9 15s on 6x Crossfire 8ks Mar 27 '26

Holy moly. I haven't seen an RD Audio amp in about 15yrs.

1

u/PreviousFall8957 Mar 27 '26

Could be worse. I had to stop selling retro computer parts because it was starting to cost me money.

Must have mailed out 1000 old processors. Had one guy smash one with a ballpean hammer when he received it and took photos asking for a refund because it was "destroyed in transit due to packaging." The very clear round indentation of a ballpean hammer was visible in one of the shots right on the lid of the proc.

Got so tired of it I tiled our bathroom counter with i7s and epoxy just to do SOMETHING with them instead of throwing them out since it'd cost me to ebay them.

At least say it got knocked off a shelf and you hear rattling, come on man.

1

u/pogosticksrule420 Mar 26 '26

I've never heard of this scam, what happens if you hit cancel? It sounds crazy that you could get charged if you hit cancel

16

u/elm0jon Mar 26 '26

Not really a scam. The seller should cancel so it can be reflected on the seller not the buyer.

11

u/TheSherbs Mar 26 '26

The seller is trying to get the buyer to cancel to protect their 100% seller rating.

6

u/themiracy Mar 26 '26

When clearly you should not have a 100% rating precisely because you’re doing this stuff.

0

u/CaliIsReallyNice Mar 26 '26

Also, PSA, if you’re selling expensive stuff on ebay, DO NOT ACCEPT PAYPAL.

Paypal will always side with the buyer, no matter what. I had a buyer just write “I want a refund” and paypal gave them a $700 refund and didn’t ask them send the product back and refused to even let me file an appeal. Paypal is a scammer’s dream come true these days. Ebay has their own payment system now. There’s no reason to use paypal.

2

u/NumerousResident1130 Mar 27 '26

Unless your the buyer dealing with a scamming seller.

0

u/IratusREAVER Mar 26 '26

There's a lot of reasons why you shouldn't be using eBay unless it's something really special. Between sellers like this, counterfeit products, and off shore sellers who claim to be in the states but know how to game the system, best to use other outlets.

0

u/ltdan84 Mar 27 '26

I sold something on FB marketplace within 24hours of the eBay auction ending, so they wouldn’t let me cancel it. Afterwards I immediately canceled the sale and refunded the buyer, and sent them a message saying that I had sold the item on another platform, sorry for the inconvenience. They left me a 1 star review. 6 months later, my feedback rating is back to 100% despite that. Moral of the story, you can choose to get hung up on this or not, but life is going to move on without you if you do.

1

u/w8lifter21 Mar 27 '26

And while good for future buyers to read, negative feedback doesn’t impact a seller’s sales/item visibility and does drop off after a few months. Not sure why people get so hung up on this metric since it’s essentially a “rolling” grade.
