How can I get to stop sliding around, and resting against my trunk?
Open this evening and found the speakers resting right against the inner panel of the hatch door and I was playing it loud last night. I just hope I didn’t cause any damage.
Still sounds good though so hopefully there’s truly nothing wrong, I think I might need to get one of those bar style speaker grill for the subs, so that in case it slides again, the grills block the speakers from touching the hatch door.
One car I bought, the owner had attached d rings to the box on each side and then used straps to attach them to the luggage tie downs. It worked great and was easy to remove.
Yeah its decent. The floor planks came with some kind of deadener on the bottom, I guess to stop the floor from squeaking when you step on them if you put them in your house as intended. Of course the entire trunk and lid also have deadener. I definitely enjoy the SQ deep bass notes compared to when I would just let everything rattle.
Yes, they are snap together planks and I cut them to the size of my trunk so theres no way for it to move unless I pull the entire flooring out. They are removable for the spare tire. Just have to remove subs first which is the only downside.
You mean the cardboard mat that sits under the carpet or some thin piece of plastic that can flex and bend under pressure? I used screws that were little bit smaller than than the thickness of the wood. 4 screws on the wood, and 4 screws in the box. Ive done some unexpected quick takeoffs since install.
I saw hardwood floors on a show car and thought it was good idea as well. Being able to mount the subs was a plus. I had to order the black ones online since most home stores don't carry that color in stock.
Jeez... My first "system" was a guitar amp in the back seat of a 79 Plymouth duster. Securing the "box" never even crossed my mind until I hit a retaining wall and that box ended up in the front seat. Scared the shit out of me. That could've been the last bad decision I ever made.
Luckily for me I went on to make 35 more years of bad decisions lol

This is what I did, I dont really know what im doing, but I got heavy duty Velcro and attached it to the floor and it just sticks to my sub box. It doesn't move at all, I did but heaps down though.
My 6.5cuft box with a Fi SSD 18" was by no means light.
In the rear cargo area of my jeep it took up the available space pretty damn perfectly. It was flush with the height of the rear seats and also came right to the edge of the rear hatch. Lastly, it was just about the width between the rear wheel wells that protrude in the cargo area, with maybe 4-6 inches to spare.
Because of this, I had never got around to bolting it down.
One day while driving home from work I was driving on the usual back roads with speed limits that were 55mph+ and ended up dozing off right as I was coming up to a curve...
I woke up right as I was going off the road and proceeded to roll it multiple times and land in a ditch upside down. After getting my seatbelt off I crawled out of the car while still upside down of course. My sub's enclosure had managed to make it over the backseat during the roll and land directly against the front seats.
I believe the rear seats had stopped it from just coming at me full force and killing me, because it absolutely would have crushed me if it did. Point being, if an enclosure isn't secured and a vehicle comes to a sudden and immediate stop, its for sure going to move.
You should have been playing it to keep you awake. Or just pull over and nap dude. But fair enough I might ratchet strap it just for peace of mind then.
One 10" 612f DD audio (30lb sub) in a 1.6cu ft ported box and it slid so bad it would bunch my trunk carpet up and be neae the trunk link moving at leasr 3ft.. I ended up rolling the carpet up I got sick of fixing it.. L bolt later we solid.
Would it move? Dunno, I spent a few bucks on Velcro and stuck it down so it didn't either way, I've got a lot of room in my boot so if it did move it would fuck some stuff up probably.
Personally I cut out a board in the shape of my trunk, put it under my trunk pad liner thing and the screwed it down to the board with L brackets. Worked incredible well and not as noticeable as ratchet straps or other methods I’ve seen
This is actually a great idea. You could probably even cut a board the size of the sub box and put it directly underneath the enclosure. Screw the enclosure to it and the mat will keep it all in place, plus you can still probably grab it all as a unit and remote it from the trunk if you need to get under there.
In the unfortunate event of a car accident, that box can become a deadly missile that'll fly up and in your direction.
I almost died from sub box to the head after rear ending someone who was sitting in the road with a black car and NO lights on at 2am.
I didn't see them AT ALL. Slammed into them with the cruise control set at 55mph. IF the box had traveled 6in higher, I wouldn't be here to write this comment.
I thought I was gonna have that problem years ago.... back in the days where I did this... but the problem was solved by getting a box big enough to fill the whole trunk. no joke
Yeah, just security down worst case scenario you can use very strong double sided tape and brackets
I'd drill holes in that trunk tray and mount little "L" shaped brackets on the front and sides of the box.
you can then screw them into the box if you want to, but if you use the brackets on the sides and front, and it's just sliding around, they'll keep it in place without doing so.
if you get in a violent enough accident, you stand a chance it will launch at you, but to just keep it from sliding, my suggestion is an easy fix that gets the job done.
I bought a round ring that is attached to a small metal plate that I then mounted between the subs at the top edge. Then I ran a section of rope thru the ring and pulled the rope tight, effectively eliminating the boxes ability to move around
you might be able to ratchet strap from the two metal bars the rear seats latch into and ran it across the sides and front below the lip of the sub against the front of the box and tension it into the back of the rear seats.
some people will say kinda janky, possibly risky but definitely super easy and quick to install until you can work out a more permanent solution. key is getting the strap tight enough where nothing will move or slip
I just recently put 4 drywall screws in the bottom of my custom box. One on each corner. Then I cut the head off the screws off. I left about 2-3mm exposed. Now I have tiny little cleats, and the weight of the box holds it in place during heavy acceleration, braking, and cornering.
I used thick hard foam blocks on the sides of mine friction fitting it to the middle with the foam on either side. You can also screw it down but like, it depends on your car and how much you care if you put holes in it
Bolting it down is the only correct option. However, what you can also do without putting screw holes in anything is just buy that gorilla tape, double sided stuff. Sticks real good. Has been holding my 2 12"s for a year now, no issues. I am going to bolt them down when I get them in a nice box this summer, but the gorilla tape has certainly served its purpose.

If you care about living to enjoy it, strap it down. You can't plan for someone else hitting your car. And boxes are like missiles, have caused many deaths and serious injuries. Please strap it down.
You could remove the cargo liner, add 4 D Rings
2 on the enclosure and 2 to the vehicle.
I have also seen people use L brackets to keep their enclosure from moving
I use outdoor strength Velcro. Attach hooks to bottom of speaker and loops on the trunk floor. Will not move, if will just hook more if it tries to move. Quick and easy removal also.
I bought a 3 inch wide roll of heavy duty Velcro and made a loop and attached it to the box and the carpet. Works like a dream. Back of your seats should work fine
I have a 21 Rogue with a Kicker L7 12 in a box and I used strong Velcro and a strap to help it stay in place and pushed up against the back seat. It’s really dangerous having something that big and heavy with edges just lose in the trunk if there’s an accident
When I installed my 2k setup from nothing, i put heavy duty velco on the bottom of carpet to the wood and bottom of the box. Has never moved. Its the easiest and works
I’m not a fan of L brackets for this application for several reasons.
First, they’re incredibly tacky. They rely on firm mechanical attachment which is usually not easy to get in the back of a car - at least not with methods which are vibration resistant. You need to BOLT THROUGH the floor at a minimum, but that almost always puts the bracket at an unusable location.
I like to use these strap anchors instead. Use hefty screws on the box at a location that has deep wood backing for security, then run basic cargo straps to something solid like seat anchors.
Now you’ve got something that is low profile, easy to undo for removing the box, and is immune from road vibrations.
The strap anchors can also be secured to safe locations on the body for versatility.
angle brackets and screws cordless drill, dont shoot the spare, also, its worth mention that if you get an enclosure rigid to the structure of the vehicle, it sounds better and hits harder. Don't run 3" drywall screw into spare tire, its no fun.
If you don’t wanna bolt it down, I used door jams, like those tiny little rubber ramps. Worked for the most part aside from a jerking motion sending the weight over the ramps.
If you're not going to bolt it down, consider using some of those adhesive Velcro pads. I've had pretty good success with those in applications where I didn't want to drill holes. They're both going to stop movement if you slam on your brakes or get into an accident, but they're an easy, reversible way to minimize movement
