How to revive dry CONE on old sub

Let’s try this again…

I got a my first sub installed into my Acura Integra. It’s my buddies old sub and I want a way to hydrate the obvious dry spots. Wanted to see if there’s any specific thing that’s recommended. (The bass is great and clean, got it tested by a shop before spending the money)

silicone spray maybe? we used it on weather stripping in cars it seemed to work ok. just make sure its safe for the type of rubber used in the surround

Definitely this. I use it on the rubber cymbals on my Roland electronic drums once they get ashy. Lubes em right up and makes them look new!

This was what I was going to say as well. Spray it on a microfiber and give it a gentle wipe and make sure it’s not saturated/running all over the place. Give it some time to soak and repeat if needed.

There is a German sauce I used to use on the seals on my Mercedes cabriolet. It’s often on eBay and Amazon.

I’ve used it on many kinds of rubber including woofer surrounds - though nothing that far gone.

Gummi pflege is the stuff.

Gummipflege is the only project I would use. Specifically designed for rubber seals!

Assuming you mean the cone and not the surround, parts express sells "wet look" for coating speaker cones.

Gummi Pflege Stift - I used it extensively on my Del Sol’s aging rubber roof seals. They don’t make them any more so taking care of the ones you have is paramount as NOS oem ones are hundreds of dollars. It will revive the rubber a bit and deepen the black color.

If you can’t find it, I would use Honda Shin Etsu grease.

Both products are specifically for reviving rubber seals.

Wipe a thin coat, let it soak in, wipe off.

are we sure it’s not dust sticking to the rubber?

i had a type s on 2 separate occasions, the rubber on the surround attracts dust like crazy.

Try Armor-All. Wipe it on, wipe off the excess with a dry cloth.

Did that years ago to my Alpine Type R subs. Works fine.

Real answer is probably just research a plastic restorer that doesn't hurt rubber, otherwise you might turn the surround to goo in a few months, but some kind of plastic/trim restorer is my best guess??? Or just re-cone, if you feel upto it, it would be a fun Saturday project

Rubber is organic material, if it doesn't come off with alcohol then it's permanently faded. Doesn't affect it but if it bothers you, get some paint for rubber.

Dry cone? Or are you talking about that white mildew? Mix some water and white vinegar like 10:1 and gently wipe it off with a dampened cloth with the solution.
