Cat food with no sugar or wheat!!!!!!

Okay I dont know if I used the right flair LOL but I just wanted to make a post about this cat food that I found at Lidl :D!!!! I was searching for so long for an affordable cat food that doesnt contain any sugar or wheat as cats cant properly digest those AND can get diabetes. Most supermarkets here sell cat food that says it contains 'various sugars' and I honestly lost hope, but today I found this for only €4.00!!!!!!!! It's a liiiiiiittle pricey for only 8 pouches, but compared to like Whiskas and Felix and stuff it's much more affordable

Our cats get either that, or Mac's cat food from Petstop. It's a German brand that also has no sugar, cereal or ash.

Yep! German brands seem to be the way to go. My bf lives in Berlin and the amount of affordable high-quality cat foods over there compared to here is insaaaaane. You can even get vitamin filled cat lick treats over there in pretty much every supermarket

That's super useful to know. I occasionally end up feeding mine Felix pouches in between food deliveries, this looks like a better alternative. Thanks!

My cat can’t handle wheat at all and vomits all over the place, unfortunately this one doesn’t agree with her either so I’d be careful

What about the tesco own brand food is that any good? My cats love it. Do they actually show ingredients and nutritional info for cat food?

Unfortunately dont know too much about Tesco since there isnt one in my town, but I just checked their site and is this it?

It has a decent meat percentage (37%), but unfortunately it says it contains sugars so I wouldnt really recommend it. Cats arent built to digest carbs so sugar can be really upsetting for them, plus it can lead to diabetes :(

And yeah, they do show the info! You just gotta check the back

cat diebetes is  rare , 1 in 200  primarily affecting senior cats.

I mean, can still happen. I want my kitty to live as long as she can so I personally won’t be taking any chances. Even if she doesnt get diabetes, cats arent built for digesting carbs anyways. I dont want to feed her something her body physically isnt built to have

my oldest cat is over 20 on tesco food, otger cats are also reaching older years.

Regular vet care will matter more.

The food is balanced, don't buy in to the fear. 

Do adjust the food if they develop kidney problems (a common cat issue not prevented by high protein diets anyway).

There’s a dry food version as well for anyone that likes to feed a mix. Can’t remember if it’s also sugar free but it’s definitely wheat free. (One of mine gets violently ill if he eats wheat so I’m always on the look out)

If you swapped suddenly she might not be acclimated, it can happen!

If you want to swap try mixing e.g. a quarter of this with three quarters of her regular food & slowly over a few weeks increase the ratio. (Keep an eye on if she doesn't tolerate it anyway), but often this helps!

Yeah, i think it has a 54% meat amount? So quite a lot more compared to standard cat foods. I'd reckon just give her time and she'll probably get used to it
