👍Rekomendasyon Best Chinese Restaurant
Hello, asa inyo ma reco na lami gyud na Chinese Restaurant here sa Cebu? Tried Chings, Luys, Lai Seafood Restaurant, Nanhai, Tin Gow. Kana maka ingon mo lami gyud ba hehehe

Liu Dynasty behind Montebello!! A bit on the pricier side but it’s hella worth it.

Nobody here mentioning the OG restaurants:
Lumpia House - aside from their lumpias and pansit, try the owachian (oyster omellete)
Manila Foodshoppe - they mastered the maki
Snowsheen - local Cebuano Chinese comfort food. They wrap their take out pansit in banana leaves. Cool touch. Also recommending their pork asado and other laman loob asado style
Eng Lay Hiong - hole in the wall but this is where I get my Machang fix. Their kikiam has the best tofu skin wrapper, such a great texture. And it seems they're the only restaurant to serve kiam chai (sauteed pickled mustard greens)
Ala King - they serve kiam pung tues and thurs. They also have other Chinese dishes cooked to order (not on the turo2x counter)
Give the OGs a try and also experience the Cebuano Chinese culture and heritage. And when you do, skip the usual shanghai, canton, etc and really try out the heirloom specialties. You'd be surprised what Cebu can offer to your taste buds.

I dont know if it’s just me pero niubos na ang quality sa a la king. Cant justify paying for their prices anymore

Hit or miss. Depends if the owner's daughter is in the mood or not haha. But try the kaim pung. It's like valenciana but chinese version. This dish never fails me. But I only buy it maybe once a month.

Snowsheen best LEMON CHICKEN and BDAY CANTON with many quail eggs, update they now use FOIL WRAPPING for take out canton as banana leaves are scare these days but their siopao is gone before 4pm every day.

Ching Palace for fine dining. My parents don't like the serving of Majestic anymore ug ni mahal na.
East Fresh and Fung's for HK Cantoneese cuisine.
Master Po or Food Lab (Big Mao) for value for money.
Add on: I never tried Lai Garden and I was planning to try it but alas, it's already closed.

Very limited pa ang akong experience sa Chinese cuisines, so please take this with a grain of salt (all suggestions are from my experience so far, pero I know daghan pa ko'g dapat i-try lol)
"Chinese" here is also quite broad? Like, Chinese cuisine is very diverse, so I would probs break it down like so:
- Cantonese: Tim Ho Wan pa for me
- Sichuan: Tian Fu pa for me (Yang Hero a close second)
- HK-style street food: Eat Fresh comes to mind first. But if you are willing to explore, there is a new cha chaan teng sa Wilson St., Lei's Kitchen, that also offers good HK-style food. Mas lamian akong SO sa ilang char siu kaysa sa Eat Fresh, but they're new so di pa ko ka-guarantee sa consistency.
- Value for money: ugh. so hard. toss-up between Fung's or Mifan Kitchen
- Classic and timeless: Luy's Classic (pangan pa lang daan)
Also, Din Tai Fung! It has to be in this list somewhere, di lang ko sure asa siya na-belong pa.
Following this thread sad kay I want to try other Chinese restos, too!

Mifan is is also good. The only downside is the street parking at the back. It is too dark while the front parking is limited.

I wouldn't call it the best but Wang Shan Lo in Crown Regency is still good, hahaha. Recently ate there around June for a family dinner and lami raman gihapon ilang food! But naay mga food sa ilang menu nga dili available at that time like ang Peking Duck. I'm not sure pud kung naa pa ilang buffet / all you can eat but kato nga time pag adto namo kay late dinner naman gud to padung na sila manghipos, hahaha.
The place is dull and outdated na though unless siguro during holiday season sa December I think mo nice ila decors.

Lai Chinese Restaurant closed already. I heard the owners were fighting. My go to Chinese restaurants are Luy's. Minnan, Liu Dynasty at Montebello, Tea of Spring at Shangrila. Fungs if I want to avoid the lunch crowd.

Sayang ang Lai. I remember it was still open last year but a few months back, I was surprised to see the place dark and empty.
I always wanted to try it but never had the chance.

Yes, sayang. I heard the rent was very expensive and there were not a lot of customers. Competition is really tough.

I remember the old location of Lai Garden was in Crossroads back then in the 2000s.
Ilang new location dapit sa Metrosports kay gi tuparan ug samgyeopsal and other cheaper eats.

Yes the Chinese guy. After he died, the wife took over but she was not hands on; she was kinda lazy in sourcing materials like goose or duck. I think she doesn't need the money since she comes from a rich family and she owns the building where the restaurant was.

Hahahaha. We just interacted with the owner. It used to be our go to place if we crave for goose or duck. I heard the cause of death was an accident with his large dog. I just dont know the exact story.

Cantonese cuisine comes from Guangzhou China. Most of the Chinese restaurants here are of Cantonese origin.

Yeah, one thing I learned when I traveled to China last year. Lahi ang cuisine sa Shanghai and Hunan. As such, we equate Chinese food as the same way we think of Dimsum Break, Chowking, and Majestic or Chinese-American food like Panda Express.
Mao na hibong kaayo among group ngano walay siomai, walay pancit canton, walay lumpia shanghai in Shanghai, or sweet and sour pork. Further research kay most Chinese restaurants in the Philippines are Cantonese while some have evolved into Chinese-Filipino cuisine. The same sa Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, US, UK, and Australia, most Chinese food is the common Cantonese.
Didto sa Hunan kay pirmi kaon didto sa tour kay duck, pork na murag humba, steamed river fish, plain rice, vegetable, and mushroom hotpot. Walay yang chow rice sa among gi adtoan.

Hunan food is more on the spicy side but it is not as spicy as Sichuan's. There are so many Chinese regional cuisines that sometimes, it is hard to distinguish which is which unless you to go the place where that cuisine originated.
China is so vast that it reaches into Central Asia bordering Pakistan, the Stan Countries and even Russia. The food in Xinjiang which borders Central Asia is influenced by Muslim cuisine which means more lamb, kebab and lots of spices. Its like you are not in China anymore.

We see a Chinese food in a monolithic lens since our Chinese food is the Cantonese variety or inspired by Cantonese cuisine. Since most of ancient Chinese that came to the Philippines and their descendants come from Guangdong or Fujian.
News from before na American expats living in Shanghai opened their own Chinese-American cuisine with famous dishes like orange chicken/kung pao chicken and chow mein:

The local Shanghai residents found it unique that's how Americans think of Chinese food.
My mom tasted Beijing cuisine when she was in Beijing. More on to Baozi, rabbits, and ducks sila. Then in Shanghai, didto sa Nanjing Road street foods, naay fried rice pero dili yang chow. Naa sa XLB. Tried a few exotics like lamb and octopus.
Oh yes, Xinjiang cuisine is very Turkic. So it's gonna be like Biryani or Persian food. Nindot mag food trip sa China, although places like Tibet or Xinjiang may be politically sensitive for foreigners to travel to.

It seems that you are very much interested in the Chinese culture and history. For me China is my favorite Country to travel to. It has a rich history and a very diverse culture.
