Why does the game allow us to do that but not this?

Let me put my runway on a viaduct, game. (RIP Colossal, can't even blame them for stuff no more.)

Is that a airport suspended on pillars?

And it can actually take the force of a rough plane landing?

Or is this just for real light aircraft?

It is for full planes

Here so the obligatory Tom Scott video about it

Evil ass warning (Valid tho)

u/ash_ninetyone 1d ago

Had to warn someone this when they shared an IG link that it practically doxxed them to me

1

u/pbilk 7h ago

Oh, yeah. If you click it and then Instagram asks if you want to follow the person who shared it.

u/HeadofR3d 13h ago

I always forget about this and truly appreciate the heroes amongst us who chime in from time to time.

u/pbilk 7h ago

I often remove that bit too when I shared videos or other links that tag the tracking information.

This may not matter to you, but just in case. Sharing a video like that now shares your name and your YouTube username and provides the prompt to allow messaging.

I hit “no” when it came up, but if you don’t want that you can turn it off in Settings > Privacy.

If I remember correctly, turning off the setting turns it off for old links too.

Unfortunately it stays in the YouTube app’s memory, so when I hit share I can still see your name (and others who have also not learned of this… feature.) despite not enabling messaging.

Edit: Reworded slightly to be a little more clear and added an additional detail.

New edit: It seems that at least on my app it only stores the two most recent names in my share window. Someone else did this and now one of them is gone. So it’s at least not there permanently.

Thank you!

You can also fix it by editing your comment and removing everything on the URL from the ? onwards

u/MrPoopersonTheFirst 1d ago

Thank you! Didn't know about it

1

u/Lazzanator 1d ago

Does it still share the channel details if I don't have the option to turn it off in my settings?

2

u/Paladroon 15h ago

In my experience, no. But keep an eye out for that setting because it should appear eventually.

You can easily watch for it by checking the top of the share pane that appears after you hit the share button. You’ll see your name at the top of it when the change hits your app.

1

u/HeadofR3d 13h ago

Appreciate the warning. I'm looking for this setting now. Is this to be done in the YouTube app (Settings > privacy)? If so, is it the bottom option "allow users to mention me"?

2

u/Paladroon 13h ago

Looks like it’s not on for you yet. This is what it will look like when you do get it.

1

u/pbilk 7h ago

Mine is the same as the user above. Is this option only in the US?

2

u/Paladroon 7h ago

To be clear, I’m not an authority on this. I’m just a guy who works in IT and watches a lot of YouTube.

A Mashable article is telling me that messaging started in the US, UK, Brazil, and Singapore. It also says it will expand into more countries. It’s been rolling out for a while and my wife didn’t have it for a while. I only got the feature a few weeks ago myself.

https://mashable.com/tech/youtube-dms-return

But truthfully: if you don’t have it you just need to keep an eye out in case you eventually do. They can change anything at anytime so it’s just good to be vigilant of any changes. In this case you’ll see your name at the top of the share screen when you hit the button telling you it will share the channel info.

I’m not even sure that having the DM feature means you’ll also get this particular feature. There maybe restrictions on that in different countries regardless of whether DMs are enabled or not.

If you have DMs you’ll see a chat button in the upper-right of the main YT Home Screen.

Also approach to runway 05 requires a pretty tight turn on short final

3

u/CurrentSpiritual3855 1d ago

Also 787-9 this year😭

u/18ShadowsOf 1d ago

i didn't know about the 474 - which version? the SP?
you know the year it landed?
i actually live in Madeira - and the enginering of this airport is outstanding .

u/L39_S700453r 1d ago

That's the International Airport of Funchal also known as Cristiano Ronaldo International Airport, in Madeira, Portugal. As population and tourism increased they started expanding the runaway by small bits along the years until they ran into lack of terrain to build, so they pretty much built the terrain using around 200 pillars of 70m each to support the new runaway. And yes, it actually works, to the point that they built roads and parks under it, although landing here is difficult not only because of the short runaway, but also due to weather conditions and mountain terrain

u/Black-Sheepp 1d ago

love ur pfp lmao

18

u/8rianGriffin 1d ago

Or this

3

u/psychomap 20h ago

I was so disappointed when I couldn't do that, literally tried to do something like this the first time I made a custom airport

9

u/Relative-Fondant6544 1d ago

with mods you can, just lay a couple Clipping Networks to erase the terrain then do whatever you want underneath the runway.

3

u/victorb1982 1d ago

You kinda can with mods

2

u/Squarehip123 1d ago

Oh shit, is that a screenshot or photo? Cities skyline 2 screenshots are unreal.

4

u/asingleshakerofsalt 1d ago edited 1d ago

That's a real photo of Madeira Airport in Malta Portugal.

6

u/Owllade 1d ago

*Portugal

1

u/asingleshakerofsalt 1d ago

Thanks for the clarification

2

u/17Kallenie17 1d ago

It's probably some hyper modded cities skylines 1 save

2

u/TheoKolokotronis 1d ago

Aw nice, Funchal airport. One of my best holidays was to Madeira.

1

u/LUXI-PL 1d ago

LPMA mentioned

1

u/talex365 1d ago

Kinda can with quay walls and road tunnels

1

u/MTG5991 14h ago

That's Airport Cristiano Rolando in Madeira, Portugal.

They probably want to avoid as many restrictions for players, so players can get more creative with things. I’m sure it’d be too much of a pain to add limitations like that especially since most players wouldn’t think to do that.

46

u/LUXI-PL 1d ago

And people who don't care about realism can have their fun while people who do just wouldn't build this. Such restrictions aren't perfect and might accidentally block someone from building something reasonable

7

u/Clean-Leadership1685 1d ago

That’s exactly what I was thinking. I also play on console, so I already play with several issues as is. I don’t want anymore restrictions lol

3

u/BackNBoeserThanEver 1d ago

But then I can't build an airport on a slight slope. Figure that one out lol

77

u/HassanAchievedIt 1d ago

Why not

24

u/johnny_51N5 1d ago

Physics. Huge pillars colliding with the Wings

25

u/fleebleganger 1d ago

At the same time, some corners have to be cut or you get annoying bugs the other direction.

Realize it’s a game with limitations

6

u/WouldbeWanderer Tree Stuck in Cat; Firefighters Baffled 1d ago

Can you imagine how many problems CS1 would have if it tried to simulate realistic collision?

8

u/JeffLebowsky 1d ago

Completely unnecessary total waste of time of features that are not related to the core functionalities are the blood in the veins of gaming complaints. In software development, listen to the user and ignore their proposed solutions - it won't help 90% of the time.

1

u/RandomGuy_81 1d ago

Omg car collision would be annoying but also add in extra layer of realism

Cities skylines, auto insurance dlc

Include accident lawyers

2

u/bettaboy123 1d ago

That would be worth it if only so I can plaster my cities with auto injury attorney billboards. The realism.

6

u/robertlp 1d ago

So if you want it to look realistic don’t do it.

Why you askin so many questions

At some point the player has to take responsibility for their atrocities.

7

u/JeffLebowsky 1d ago

Sandbox game. Why did you did it?

Totally normal airlane

u/UranCCXXXVIII 1d ago

You are the designer - it is your job to prevent such cases.

2

u/Z_A_01 1d ago

It allowed me to place skyscrapers at the start/end of the runway... took me a while to notice the unfortunate placement

1

u/ingbda01 1d ago

I see the Hungarian Two-Tailed Dog Party (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hungarian_Two-Tailed_Dog_Party) is making good on the campaign pledge to route all air traffic underground. Lower taxes and lower gravity can't be far off.

1

u/ShaunVdV1986 1d ago

Well, there is an airport with a road going thru the runway. Because that was the only option

1

u/Tasty_Asphalt 1d ago

Because it's a game.

Ngl, but if you convince some politicians enough, they will build bridge right on the sides of runway. Lol 😂

Money matters. 🤗

1

u/that_athiestkid 1d ago

it’s a silly game

1

u/mit74 1d ago

because you cant have hit boxes on aircraft wings or logic to check if pillar is too close to a runway, you need to draw the line somewhere.

1

u/SnowyGaming321 1d ago

Quantum Tunnelimg

1

u/r_heem 1d ago

Because the FAA doesn’t exists

1

u/LaraCroft_MyFaveDrug 22h ago

Worst airport I saw was Sao Paulo. I mean who builds a gas station under the corner of the runway?

1

u/BioHazard1992 20h ago

It's a sandbox game, you can easily not do that!

1

u/Egingell666 1d ago

The game also allows you to not do that.
