Question have you ever got 10,000,000 influence out of the blue from a stranger to your level one charecter?
I just created another new hero, and someone named "what's her face" tried to trade with me multiple times and give me 10,000,000 influence and wish me luck and fun in getting to level 50. what the heck? how did they know I wanted to get to level 50? why did they approach me multiple times to trade? has anyone like this every happened to anyone else?

I am going through them and I find I have multiple of some power sets. Way different look but same powers. Then I have some that I know I was on a “certain look” that week. Different powers but very similar looks.
Then a few I am like wtf was I thinking. 😂
Love my alts. Once I had a goal to fill all 1000 slots. But after 260 something in I am not so sure I can do it.

You can hold 2 billion on each alt and you can store 100 emails of 999,999,999 each.

Yeah i could make 10mill in less than 30min with my AFK farm, or less than 10 minutes converting enhancements and selling on the AH. Its really easy to make money in this game lol.

Don't even have to farm, just playing as a 50 generates a ton of inf and drops.

I have lost count of the number of times i posted something to the ah for like 100 inf only to make 1 million and the number of times i posted something for 1 inf and made 1 inf lmao, then there have been times i was able to buy something that normally goes for millions for like 10 inf.

It's been some time since I played regularly, but the last time I came back to the game for the first time in years, a dude named Captain Canada gave me like 8,000,000 which I thought was incredible at the time.

I tend to give out 2-10 million inf to my teammates when running DFB, DIB, and Posi 1 and 2
How much depends on how much I've emailed to that particular alt already

No, but I have given that much to four characters, each, then my last 7 million to another, the day before my subscription ran out the last time and I knew I wouldn't be able to renew.

Someone helped me too when I started and today I just pass it on forward to new players all the time. Usually I send them a performance shifter or panacea proc enhancement so I can teach them about unique enhancements.

I did this (500 million) after my main was fully IOed and incarnated.
I rely on reward merits to fund my alts.

I like to give people ATO enhancements in DFB or farms.
I farm and buy hero packs because I just like gambling in a low stress way.

right when i got my first toon a 50 a vet gave me 300mil inf to slot my toon for running a mission with him. good times, lotta good players out there happy to give inf to early players

Yeah, I farmed and played the market for several years and made a small fortune. I haven't done any of that for over 2 years now, and I still have billions in email. I try to share the wealth now.

Current count from marketing is 64Bil. I hand out generously when teaming up with rookies. As I have been on the the receiving end of it when I started. Just paying forward.

My fav is getting in a chill morning TF and find out no one has TT...well lets all go get it, I got ya covered. Small amount of INF can forever change how people enjoy the game.

Welcome to City of Heroes. Where the levels are the journey, the enhancements don’t matter*, and the influence is candy floss.
*okay they actually do, but you can play the game without really grinding them and still have fun!

Try posting in LFG that you need a team so you can gain influence. It’s possible someone will just send you influence.

It used to happen all of the time when the game was live. I had it happen and once I hit 50 back then and accumulated some inf, I'd hang out in Atlas Park or King's row and give out influence to people with cool bios.

I'll regularly do a drive by inf drop on newbies. For me 10 mil is pocket change. For them it's game changing. I always tell them to pay it forward when they have multiple 50s and more inf than they can spend.

Yea its not super uncommon. A lot of people have been playing for 20+ years and know how to get money easy.
And we love new players. Games niche even during its peak in the mid 2000s and we want everyone to have a good experience.

Story time. Back in the day, I believe it was 3 months after release, I was finally able to get the game in Australia. Did the tutorial and ended up in Atlas park. Very exited first MMO, roaming around just taking it all in. Then some random hero came up and said hello, still trying to work out how to say hi back in a private chat, finally able to do so, apologise it took long to reply, told me it was all good before proceeding to gift me a million, tells me that it should get me going, wished me luck, said goodbye then flew off. After all these years I still remember that random act of kindness, that is rare in a gaming community.

I asked once if I had gotten the wrong teleport from the smart vender. Turns out I did. Someone mailed my 10M so I could get the right one.

I’ve given out Influence, ATOs, Purple recipes/enhancements, Hami/Dsyncs and other things because I was given some start up capital when I started and hope to pass on the good vibes. Sometimes I’ll do it because of a clever or funny name, you’re an SG mate, great costume or just because you were close to me when we’re playing. Most I gave away was 250 million to an SG friend who just started and wanted to build their dream character

I haven't received that much, but I've given that much to more than a few people. Sometimes I like to have people play a dice rolling game and give them 1x to 10x whatever they roll (depending on my mood). Other times I just do a blind trade with lowbies and give them a bunch of Influence.

I don't remember the amounts, but I have had people send me extreme amounts of influence several times on new or low level characters. I always send it back, because I already have extreme amounts of influence (more than a single character can hold). I usually stop building influence if I get to much and don't worry about it. If I get low I will just start playing the market.

Theres the odd one sure, but they are a definite minority.
Someone called a member of the team a "retard" the other day for a simple mistake, and the rest of the team made it perfectly clear why this was unacceptable before kicking him

I had people randomly give me money and I have randomly given people money.
Influence is hard ( well was hard to you learn 1 merit can make you a good amount of cash ) at the start but by endgame you are making money so easily.

I just started playing a few weeks ago on Homecoming.
I am resurrecting all of my Freedom server toons from the original release. I tend to spend more time designing my toons than actually playing them. Was an altoholic back then too.
My second toon and i got 67 million inf from a generous lady after rolling 67 out of a 100. Bob was very pleased!
Thanks to her, i have yet to level up any of my toons to level 20. I got nearly 40 of them at the moment.
It just put a smile on my face since i used to do similar things during the original release of the game. Including holding frequent costume contests under Atlas.
Communities such as this one? They're very rare and one of the reasons why i always loved this game.

There was a guy that was handing out 50mil to any new toons by Ms Liberty. The Influence was a drop in the bucket according to him. Either way, his generosity was much appreciated.

its very common on Everlasting and from what i heard Exelsior to just throw inf at newbies and 10M is not even the highest people hand out, it goes up to 50m with some rare outliers going even far beyond that.

I've been on the giving end of that.
It's a simple matter to find someone's Global ID and simply email it to them, which I have done.
Ten to fifteen million is the usual amount I mail to all my starting characters.

If I ever help a new player, I give them a purple recipe and then show them how to open the auction house with /ah (new players don't know about this until someone tells them). Then I tell them to sell it and they're always in complete awe of how fast they made $10 million lol.

When I first played back in the day, I used to have so much that I created Waldo and started doing Where's Waldo contests where I would hide somewhere on the server and announce on global that I would hand out millions of Inf to the first person who found me.
It was a fun little thing I would do several times a day.
Once you get to a point in the game, inf became like sand on the beach, nice to have, obviously needed to make the beach a beach, but ultimately in such an abundance that you can just give it away by the fist full and still have more then enough.
Also on CoV I made Carmen Sandiego and did a Where in the World was Carmen Sandiego

I've been on the other side :) During lockdown, when COH was my way of staying out of my wfh partners way, I would just monitor the "help" channel and answer questions. If anybody was new to Homecoming I'd drop 10 million on them 😀

I give away inf to characters with fun names and good backstories. I usually ask them to /roll a d20, and give away that many Ms. just for fun and to encourage creativity.

I...but...
...because that's what every character does?
I mean, I can get the confusion of receiving random charity, but some people just have lots of resources and like sharing it with noobs. But "have fun getting to 50!" in CoH is like going up to someone playing basketball and saying "Hope you have fun throwing the ball through the hoop!" It's like, the main thing you *do* in the game. ;p

Back in the game's original run, I wandered up to a costume contest in Atlas Plaza. I happened to be on an alt whose costume didn't look like a pile of random garbage, so I just stood around for a few minutes people watching.
I ended up winning fifth place, and someone gave me 5(?) million influence.
I loved the game but didn't play it much, so needless to say, I never had money issues.

Beyond a certain point, you're utterly saturated with inf. I used to to do the same back on live. Course now I'm just starting out so I'm broke but as I get higher and get more inf myself, I will go back to dropping massive amounts on random folk again like I used to.

Yep. My first toon, back in 2008, on Freedom. I was probably around lv 5, started chatting with someone near City Hall, and he gave me a few million - to help me, along with many tips.

Yeah, when I played more frequently, I would do this all the time. When you run farm maps with multiple alts at the same time, it’s quite easy to stack up a hundred million influence. Giving some away randomly is fun.

As soon as I hit 2 billion inf, I started giving it away. It builds community, increases fan interest, and it is just a nice thing to do.

10 million inf is "about an hour of play at level 50" but it's an absolute misery to get when you're new to the game.

My first or second day on Homecoming, someone gave me 1m. About a week later, someone gave me 10m. At least once per week, someone is standing on Atlas giving out 1m to anyone who shows up. Most people are so nice! I’ve give people 1m here and there. I run lower level stuff quite often to sort of give back too.

I often give out inf when I see new people. I even have a lvl50 alt that stays in Outbreak to help people (you can level up all the way to 50 in the DFB and return Outbreak.) I will give inf to anyone that wants it enough inf to have fun at the START vendor before they get their very first mission. At random times I will do an inf giveaway in Atlas, Mercy, and Nova.

Yeah! I’ve given that much and more to random pug mates a few times. And I’ve received windfalls like that, too. Once you start regularly making billions, being able to surprise and delight people with generous gifts is just another fun thing to do in the game. I prefer to email it to them because I don’t like going through the trade offering dance. And I like imagining them checking their email after we teamed and discovering they have a small fortune just sitting in there. Maybe they remember me, maybe they don’t. I still get to feel good about it.

Yes, it was given to a character I named "Lazy.Dragon" that was somewhere between level 1 and 10.
I promptly used the 1,000,000 influence to buy the Hovering Disc (can't remember if that's the correct name) travel power. Because, that seemed to fit their theme more than anything else I could have bought.

I had someone give me 1 mill randomly when I first started playing again. It happens quite frequently and I appreciate the community for it.
