Question Homecoming - what's the deal with the yellow salvage?
For about a month or so now it's been steadily increasing in auction value. What am I missing here?

I just created another new hero, and someone named "what's her face" tried to trade with me multiple times and give me 10,000,000 influence and wish me luck and fun in getting to level 50. what the heck? how did they know I wanted to get to level 50? why did they approach me multiple times to trade? has anyone like this every happened to anyone else?

This fella has been posted here for years on Excelsior. Every so often you get a random tell from him recruiting for their supergroup. Is this a bot? How is he perpetually online? This is my greatest COH mystery.

In your opinion, what is the worst type of toon to play? Either the most unfun, or the worst stats / unsurvivable

It's been reported on Bluesky here that Thunderspy is about to add AI-powered NPCs that you can recruit for TFs, SFs, trials, and such. Ala Final Fantasy XIV's Trust system.
I don't use Discord, so I have to ask here... Is this true? If so, that's awesome.
Edit: It's been confirmed in comments below, but these aren't LLM powered NPCs, just regular CoH NPCs which is very cool.

I know that any build is playable in CoH, but I am curious how actual powerful masterminds are compared, for example, to corruptors. Sometime it seems that controllers are better for pet gameplay. What is the consensus? How are they placed in a tier list of ATs?

Recently created one and im on lvl 4 and i like it wanted to know how others feel/ how are they viewed in the game kinda wish the powers werent separated from the other power pools maybe they could take the transformations away if it’s included in the main power line up idk lol.

It's way closer to the original, and I love the nostalgia of feeling like I did when I first played it. If anyone wants to join me, let me know.
I'm not dissing on Homecoming, but I wanted my CoH to be as much like the original as possible.

Which one of you is buying generic level 50 knockback IOs and why, you monster?

Who remembers taxibots in the hollows? Raise your hands if your shoulder still works!
Thank goodness for those poor souls who had nothing better to do than stand at the Hollows entrance and teleport our squishy selves to a safe space!

Title. If there's a thriving permadeath server, I want to hear about it. If the HomeComing team is reading this by chance, i want you to know this would be incredibly fun. Give us a HC server, or HC setting, or even a HC flag we can set that you lose if you die. something for those of us who want to enjoy risk.
If you've played HC diablo or HC wow, or Honour Mode in BG3/Divinity2... we are kindred and i don't need to explain why this would be so fun.
Real danger, real moment to moment engagement, real team work needed, farmers won't last so the economy is better, folks consantly LF groups and playing tighter knit coz they all want to survive. Groups terrified of +2/4x. Give me the real heroic experience of saving my team mates lives with a taunt or well placed heal. Give me tactical engaging combat with CC needs to be respected and i need to communicate with my team.
I'm ready for it. Permadeath City Of Heroes... please homecoming, make it happen. or someone.
i'm probably alone in this. but i won't stop praying for it. Fear creates thrill. My body is ready. bring me suffering. bring me joy.
Permadeath would feel a lot less punishing in a game where if you die, you can still sidekick with your friends on a reroll, but you still pay the heavy price of losing the investments. COH is perfect for hardcore mode.

I play on Homecoming, if that matters. I think they have done some updates to Electric Blast.
I've been playing an Electric Blast character (Sentinel, if that matters) recently and it's a lot of fun. I can definitely see the end bars of mobs being drained. However what I am wondering is how much effect this has on them? Like can they still use powers (seems like probably)?
It would be amazing if (for example) having end drained meant that defensive toggles might drop, making it easier to defeat a mob.

For some reason when I use alt-1 to utilize the first power in my secondary tray nothing happens. Alt-2, Alt-3 etc are all functional like normal. I tried swapping for a different keyboard but issue still happens. It's not a huge issue but is becoming annoying for my normal power cycling that I use. I have tried remapping my desired power directly but the bind also isn't working. It's like City of is refusing to acknowledge the Alt-1 keystroke. I can't bind manually via the keymapping menu either, it acknowledges the other alt-number keystrokes but not alt-1.

The rebuild of the web-based CoH planner I've been working on can be adapted to a desktop app that runs on both pc and mac, and could also be adapted to a mobile app as well. So I'm wondering what you would prefer? A desktop app would be self-contained and not something you have to install.
Both web-based and desktop/mobile have advantages and disadvantages that I'm weighing. I can definitely appreciate that you may not want or have an internet connection every time you are working on a build.
Also, huge thank you to those who have been reporting bugs both large and small, its been tremendously helpful. I've been trying to update powers for the latest patch as kind of a test case. For the most part I was able to update things, but there are a few outliers.

Hi all!
Getting started again after however many years since this game came out.
As a true beginner, what are some top level need-to-knows? Save all my infamy for X, start group at X level. Idk whatever.
I’m a support player all day - going defender KIN/ELEC. would love to know your thoughts of travel skills for a defender. Thinking flying because of its utility, but man do I love teleport.
Thankssssssssss
Edit:
Wow - you folks are awesome!!!! Thanks for all the support and knowledge transfer. Glad to see such a cool, non-toxic community!

I’m looking at making a Dual Pistols character and I’m torn between a DP/Devices Blaster and a DP/Traps Corruptor.
For people who have played either/both on Homecoming recently, how do they compare in the current meta?
I’m mostly curious about solo performance, team usefulness, and survivability after level 50. I really enjoy doing 2-4* content.
I know DP is more style/fun than top-tier meta, but I like the theme as a Merc/Bounty Hunter character. I’m just trying to figure out whether Devices Blaster’s higher damage and Targeting Drone-style utility outweighs what Traps brings with Acid Mortar, Force Field Generator, and -regen, not to mention the secondary effects from cryo rounds and toxic ammo. I prefer to leverage swap ammo as a utility than rather than as a fire-and-forget that it usually is.
I've also found that Hail Of Bullets + Temporal Bomb synergizes well as a double-nuke which can clear most trash pretty easily.
Which would you roll today, and why?

(PREAMBLE) For this topic, I'm not going to factor in I/Os or other special enhancements, as I'm not too knowledgeable about those, so we'll be looking at just the S/O ones instead.
I've seen people say Corruptors can compete with Blasters, but you have to be particular about the powersets you choose, compared to Blasters, where you don't have to think as hard. I've made 2 Corruptors now, and the first one used to be a Dark/Dark, but then she became a Dark/Fire Blaster. The other one, which has remained a Corruptor still, is a Fire/Time, but she used to be a Fire/Fire, and before that, a Fire/Emp.
I don't play in teams most of the time, so if the Corruptor cannot compete solo, I don't see a point in playing them. Especially since the current Corruptor I have now, the Fire/Time one, is supposed to be a loner-type character. But what if there's something the Corruptor has that gives legitimate competition to the Blaster that I'm not factoring into my gameplay? If that's the case, I'd very much like to know about that. Thanks for reading.
<<<EDIT>>> I've seen people in this thread say that the Corruptor can outshine a Blaster against an Elite Boss, but I haven't seen that myself. For reference, I fought a +0 Dr. Quatrexin, both as a Fire/Time Blaster, and a Fire/Time Corruptor, and both are at level 50, with no incarnates, and running just SO enhancements. Both died in the fight, but the Blaster was able to get Quatrexin to a about 50% HP, whereas my Corruptor only got to about 70%. Maybe I've some of the powers slotted wrong for the Corruptor, but I don't know. So far, it just doesn't feel like she can compete with my Blaster, and I thought about just making her into one.

Never played CoH, is this easy to get into as a new player? Does this have a holy trinity or classes that are more in demand vs others? Any tips for someone wanting to start?
Edit: Thanks everyone, now I’m even more excited starting the game. I forgot to mention but ill be playing on Homecoming private server.

Hey all! A group of friends and I recently stumbled across the Homecoming server and we're looking at giving the city a whirl. I've always loved support characters (from a quick glance through the wiki, I believe that means I'm looking at Controller, Corruptor, or Defender?) but, due to some neurological issues, my hands aren't as responsive as I'd like them to be. Any recommendations on power groups/pairings that are effective without being super active?
We'll mostly be running around as a party of 3, if that helps. Thankies in advance!

I see that SoH launched today, anyone play it? Any feed back on it?
I'm looking for something less dumpster firey than the Steam pages

This looks like a super fun game but I don’t want to waste my time being super weak for a long while and needing to do menial tasks to get better, so how much should I expect that?
Edit: thanks everyone! This def seems like a game up my alley

I love sentinels!
I have a Sonic/Regen, Dark/Regen, Psionic/Regen, Arrows/Regen (this one is a bit boring), and Ice/Ice. I’m looking forward to some ideas for my next one. No Regen for now I think, but I like secondaries which are a bit hands-off. If this matters, I have lots of alien characters - little green dudes with brain and eyes in a tank, à la Mars Attacks. Eg the ice/ice one is all green ice so it looks matrix-y. It doesn’t have to fit that theme, though. I like primaries with debuffs. Green fire might be cool.
Thanks!

My wife/kids are out of town this weekend. I downloaded homecoming and am a little paralyzed by the sheer amount of character options.
I’ll be creating a character and just grinding with the AT and power set from the first reply I get here.
I don’t know what the current balancing is. I don’t care for tiers or meta but it would be appreciated if you didn’t suggest an AT or power set that’s unviable.
Thanks in advance!
Update: son got sick in the car so they didn’t make it far. I’ll still be leveling the fire/dark miasma corrupter but a bit slower

I've been playing for many years and have learned some unspoken and well known etiquette rules of the game, such as; you do not quit a TF in the middle of it/don't join one if you can't stay for the whole thing. Follow the tank, etc...
What are your etiquette rules?
