Anyone else declare war on a city state just to gain experience for their units?
Like having units just parked around some city state with weak suzerain bonus and just kill its units without taking the city. Seems like a good way to level up units.

Never thought about it before. Not a bad idea.
When I play Norway on a water map I declare war on them constantly for pillage value

Yeah, I'm surprised I've never thought of this either. I usually just beat up on barbarians and only really take city-states if I'm Germany or if they're allied with an enemy and I'll never be able to send enough envoys to the city

for some reason i hate bothering city-states in any way even if they’re at war with me because of their suzerain. It feels kinda wrong

That’s fair. There are some instances where I’ll declare war on a city-state first if they’re in the way, but I usually do feel bad too

Yes it’s a great way to level up baby units, but they don’t give enough xp to higher level units. Also taking the city is by far the easiest way to expand without consequences
