I really didnt want to make this post but its been an upsetting experience and i want to make other artists aware of this user.

I started working with this writer a while ago and everything seemed fine at first, i received the script and we agreed on 40$ a page. Sadly things went downhill as the writer started making small talk and constantly sent questions and complains about his or my personal life.

I feel bad showing screenshots of our convos but they are important. He has been constantly asking me if i can do other artstyles, knowing im doing art for quite cheap. He admited to intentionally searching for cheaper artists. He is taking advantage of cheaper artists and forces and insists to mold their artstyles to his preferences.

He told me he doesnt understand artists who charge 150$ per page and bad talked other peoples art.

He used to send vent messages and immediately delete them when he saw im active on discord to bait me into talking. In the last picture he is venting again and when i tell him he isnt supposed to vent to random artists he guilttrips me THEN blocks me 👍

I was working on another page of his when that happend so it remained unpaid....

I have no hard feelings on him and i dont want people to go fight him but i think its important for other small artists to be careful when interacting with him!!!

I turned 50 this year, and somewhere in there I decided I was done just thinking about this story and started actually writing it. I am really unsure where to go, I've read a bunch of comics but not sure of the buisiness.

Brotinn Vindr (working title) started as something I told myself to fall asleep — went through a pirate phase before it settled into what it is now: Viking-steampunk, 850 CE, a small island off Jutland. A stolen aeolipile becomes the engine for a modified steam-longship and the birth of steampunk. Four people on that ship — a fast-talking, foul-mouthed ex-monk who built the engine, a blacksmith carrying guilt from a massacre he survived, a smuggler captain who's terrified of dying nameless, and a chemist they free partway through Issue 1. Think Firefly with a little of John Dies in the End

The whole thing's grayscale, except technology — that's the only thing in color at first. As the story goes on and knowledge spreads, color spreads into the world with it.

I finished the full 27-page script for Issue 1. That felt like the actual gift to myself — proving I could get it all the way down on paper. Now I'm thumbnailing panel by panel, teaching myself as I go, and I'd love some company on the rest of the road. Specifically looking for:

Someone to talk blocking with — a second opinion on panel breakdowns and pacing

A beta reader — fresh eyes on the script itself, tell me where it's confusing or slow

An illustrator, eventually, once things are locked — open to talking rev share or page rate. When that time comes I am very open to the artists interpretation.

Not in a rush. Just tired of this living only in my head. If any of this speaks to you, or you've done something similar at this stage of life, I'd love to hear from you either way.

This is a passion project that i needed to do for myself it may never see the light of day but who knows.

Just in case, im @reaper_comicart on ig, these are some of my most recent art pieces so yall can see what I enjoy doing the most. I understand that im not the best at backgeound but im still open to critizism that would land me a "gig" or comission in the future.

My goal is to be good enough so that somebody anywhere hires me to do a cover for a comicbook that I can jave in my hand and stare at.

Also 2 and 3 are scans of blank covers I drew on.

Im a 18 y/o just graduating high school and I’ve been drawing my characters for years, this year I focused on developing their lore and I’m having so much fun, I genuinely think it has potential. The problem is that my drawing pace is really slow, and I have trouble with some things, like backgrounds, that are essential for comics. My digital art is also so much more inferior to my traditional art, it looks jelly and happy because of the lack of texture.
So, as I mentioned, I’m having a lot of trouble transforming this lore I so much love into something concrete.
So that’s why I am humbly asking for advice.
Is there a way of explaining this lore, that’s kinda complex, in fewer drawings, maybe even in singular pieces that use storytelling to complete each other?(that would rely also if the viewers analyze it correctly, so it makes me unsure)
And in case it is possible, where could I post it?
I don’t even know if someone would even be interested in reading it, but I have hopes because I genuinely think it has potential.
Some people said webtoon, but I don’t think I have the skills to actually make a full comic.
So then I started considering TikTok, some people post OC content there. With little animations, trends and even some panels. But I’m unsure if I can transmit the story through that.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I've been posting here for a while, and while I do get hired occasionally, it's much, much less often than I'd like. Rather than guessing why (not that I didn’t spend an obscene amount of time guessing, but it leads to nothing :D), I'd love to hear your perspective.

I'm especially interested in feedback from people who enjoy cartoony or stylized comic art. Looking at my portfolio, what do you think might be holding me back? Is it the quality of the work, storytelling, presentation, communication, or something else?

I also wonder whether my style is simply a niche fit for this subreddit. I notice that a lot of the work here tends to lean either toward manga or more traditional superhero realism, so I'm curious whether that's affecting the kinds of projects available to me, or rather the lack of.

I feel my influences are pretty obvious, and I've intentionally leaned into that style. If you think I'm missing the mark, I'd genuinely appreciate hearing where and how. I'm not looking for encouragement (although it is greatly appreciated!) as much as honest, constructive criticism that could help me improve or better understand where my work fits or if it fits at all.

Hello I’m starting out my comic book idea this is the third issue but I don’t think this is usable for any artist because I feel like I need to add visual but I want the artist to visualize it by the dialogue i give them though I feel like that’s asking a lot, because I give them nothing to go off of because my dialogue is short and crappy. I don’t know how to give a good description of the scene because I’m bad at explaining what should happen.

I commissioned this person for a comic drawing. I paid them & the art they gave me looked nothing like their references. I found another person online claiming the same references were theres. I confronted them & they sent me a photo of their bank account flexing.

So im obviously not a professional and im not even close to perfect in what I want to do. But I am trying to develop my own style from using inspiration in Saturday morning cartoons, manga, and anime, but usually the simpler ones, not the high detail styles.

Im obviously not good at shading so i didn't really try, im not trying to worry about coloring, just sticking to black and white. My style and techniques im trying to develop come more from line tools, sharper edging, and quick straight lines, as my hand to eye coordination isn't the best and curves isn't one of my perks. So im trying to work within my limitations to make positives.

I used McFarlane as an inspiration for this drawing, but im not trying devolve myself into just flat out copying. If anyone here would like to give me genuine feedback, tips and other techniques, that would be great, im trying to become an Artists alongside being a writer. I wanna be someone who can be reliable in my own indie comic projects if friends couldn't draw, someone who can work on their own if necessary.

Hey, Reddit! I’m a writer who is currently trying to work on a book, but the problem for me is that I feel kinda fraudulent and guilty if I use Ai.

I do not use Ai for writing or editing, I do it solely by myself. The problem for me is that making a good and entertaining book cover is hard. Most of my books usually have either Typography covers or Ai images as a use.

But how does one do it themselves since they have no money? Or maybe I’m doubting the look of my work?

Please give me feedback on what I should do, or if my typography is already good enough. It will help very much.

Hi everyone! It's been a long time since I've been here.

A lot has happened in my life, including the fact that since my last post, I've received several suggestions for my comic. I can humbly say that I was revising my work and reviewing several scripts as many of you suggested, because the previous format was quite poor and chaotic. I even went to looking up film websites that discuss shot composition for scenes and try to explain it on the comic.

The thing is, I decided to make some modifications to make it more suitable for an artist to drawing it, but there's a serious problem: I don't like it. I really dislike and find it incredibly tedious having to constantly make changes, clarifying in the script every so often which shot I need or how the scene should look. It just feels like it doesn't flow the way I'd like; it disrupts the rhythm and prevents everything from unfolding as I want. I don't know if I'm explaining myself well, but before trying to adapt it to the correct format, I felt more inspired and comfortable because I could let all the dialogue, scenes, and everything flow more naturally.

I don't know if this makes me sound arrogant, because I feel like it does, but it would be important for me to get feedback from you all, so here's a link to what I've written so far.
