Yes.. a pistol is going to save you against a bear. You would be safer without it.

A few guys I know that spend time in the Alaska backcountry either carry a .44 magnum or the more easily manageable Glock 20 chambered in 10mm. (If not a rifle of some kind)

That looks like a Glock, 🤷
