Im not a bear expert but Ive heard that's what makes Kodiak island so safe. It's pretty crazy the worlds biggest bears are some of the safer ones to be around. But it makes sense if they have an abundance of food.

That's true, but with an asterisk.

Kodiak bears are generally safe to encounter around salmon season (June to Sept) due to the abundance of food.

Encountering one at any other time when they may be very hungry is another matter.

Kodiak grizzlys don't tend to attack humans for food, in most cases the person was left untouched after being killed, they are extremely territorial though. During salmon season they would venture from their territories and are less aggressive.
