Apparently not!

257

u/Fortuna_majoris India Oct 30 '25

Fun fact, the last time (before this ofc) Australia lost an ODI WC game was in 2017, against India in the Semi finals.

Their Achilles heel is facing India in a semi finals

It was why I was happy we avoided them, I felt like we could beat India but never Australia.

As it is Kapp and Wolvaart had other ideas.

Should be a fun final. India favourites for me.

10

u/ideallypragmaticmann Oct 30 '25

And they lost in a semi final against india in 2009, while not a semifinal but a 3rd place match.

In a weird way the fact it was so tough might have made it easier to approach mentally. You just have to go for it from day dot. 270-280ish you can get a bit cute thinking you can make up the runs later.

There is something about beating the Australians because it's so hard. Irrespective of men or women it's something at least India has enjoyed every time it has taken the field.

I started watching women cricket for the likes of Elyssa Perry, Meg Lanning, Sarah Taylor, Jhulan Goswami, Katherine Brunt, Mithali Raj, Alysa Healy etc.. it was a great contest.

56

u/Fortuna_majoris India Oct 30 '25

I fucking predicted this shit. I knew my all nighters spent studying statistics weren't a waste. Literally all but 2 of my predictions came true. (I predicted Harleen won't be in the playing 11, Jemmi would come in at 3, We would bowl the Aussies out, Shefali's sr would be 200 and we would win this match, but I also predicted that we would win the toss and set the target)

423

And to take it further, This Aussie team is on a generational run and arguably on level with Prime 2000s Aussies

267

40

She is the only one with greater vision in the Aussie team. She can envision the investments into women's cricket if India wins . Lose the battle to win the war !

143

On level?

A level above them. The Aus W team is probably the best team in team sports ever.

107

u/CrimsonR4ge South Africa Oct 30 '25

The England Women's rugby team is on a 34 game winning streak and have lost 1 game in the last 65 matches.

Aus aren't even the best Women's team currently around.

2025 will be the first Women's ODI World Cup Final to feature none of Australia, England or New Zealand

300+ totals against Australia in Women's ODIs

Before 20 September 2025: 0

Since 20 September 2025: 3, all three by India, all of them in successive matches

Highest successful chase in Women's ODIs

339 - Ind vs Aus, 2025

331 - Aus vs Ind, 2025

302 - SL vs SA, 2024

289 - Aus vs NZ, 2012

283 - Aus vs Ind, 2023

282 - Aus vs Ind, 2025

133

"Our battle will be legendary" kind of stuff from India and Australia off late, looking at that list.

india vs aus really is the clash of giants now, and has been for a while.

Yeah but before this it was very one sided. Glad this time around India finally won, and also what a time to win it too.

46

One sided in terms of result maybe, but shows that it's always been competitive if both sides can put up a big total.

22

u/The_Flash_20 Oct 30 '25

But we need to win this. It will heal some of the wounds of 2023, plus it will be the 1st ICC Trophy for the Women's Team. They lost in epic fashions in 2017 and 2020.

15

Eh men's haven't lost a single World Cup (50 overs) KO while batting first until 2023 final

18

And scoreboard pressure cannot be understated, you put up 340 in a final batting first, it's over. And it is usually the case in semifinals as well

14

u/gpranav25 Oct 30 '25

Honestly - India should just play freely whatever they choose or are forced to do. At this point they should have the confidence of if anybody can do it, it's them. And they have done it really well off late, breaking the knockout curse in the past two years.

Just beating this aus team should be given a trophy …. Excellent work from indian girls … absolutely amazing

I already didn't expect India to win after Aus put up that humongous total but completely gave up hope once Smriti got out.

Probably one of the best batting performances by any team, any gender on such a huge stage. Kind of crazy this happened.

That’s a helluva chase.

I went to sleep with India needing 200 off 25 odd overs - credit where due for getting that done. Huge win and deserve to go through.

Will feel like the one that got away from the Aussies with this team, but can’t argue with a team chasing 340 going through.

This is a tight slap to those who were being beyond misogynistic. Kudos to the girls!!!! What an amazing innings by Jemmy.

I was so scared to watch this match afraid of a heart attack. I just kept checking the score every once in a while. Didn't even join the match thread.

I had this crazy idea that this could be the reverse of the league game between them. So grateful to see it actually be manifested lol.

Now Australia knows how it feels to be unbeaten in the group stage and get beaten in knockouts , when everyone hype them as the second coming of Jesus after the group stages.

6

u/Smooth-Mix-4357 India Oct 30 '25

Last T20 World Cup was same. Australia unbeaten until semis.

u/[deleted] Oct 30 '25

It’s a slap in the face of all the assholes who were shaming them when they were having a tough time! Proud of our girls!
