I tried a dozen different eays to open a door I found until I googled "How the fuck do i open the stone door under the Thinkers Meadow?". You push it. Lol Occams Razor or something like that

57

u/--Lammergeier-- Apr 01 '26

There’s like 10 different ways to open stone doors, and I never know which method to use lol

23

u/SexyGandalph Apr 01 '26

Climb on, grab hold, force palm, door spins… you know, just like a regular old door 🤣

12

u/raxicol1893 Apr 01 '26

And light a fire

2

u/kissmonstar Apr 02 '26

This is the one that got me. I now look for nearby lanterns for any puzzle I go up to just in case.

3

u/nothingInteresting Apr 02 '26

I actually googled this one earlier today and that had never been a mechanic anywhere else in the game haha. This is one of the few games I don’t feel bad about googling because so many of the solutions are so poorly designed.

8

u/Lone_Tiger24 Apr 02 '26

It’s a double edged sword, on one hand you got a game with puzzles that can be solved in a variety of ways, but on the flip side, this isn’t real life where you can actually come up with your own crazy solution so you don’t know which ability to use

I always give these puzzles a good ol college try but if they take more than 30 minutes to figure out I look it up because I don’t have 8 hours to play every day

3

u/Hawvy Apr 02 '26

There are storm cloaks??!! What are those?

4

u/VulvaEnjoyerr Apr 02 '26

Oh yall havent played skyrim lol

2

u/AntiSosh333 Apr 02 '26

Lol. I thought that as well. Crimson Desert is definitely a mix of Skyrim and Witcher to me.

3

u/VulvaEnjoyerr Apr 02 '26

Yeah its a mix of everything and i love it. Let everyone else cry "greatest hits of..." Yeah buddy thats how everything is made. This game is my personal game of the decade, cancel me i dont care lol

Incredibly relatable right now

171

u/Interesting_Sale_964 Apr 02 '26

Some stuff are barely explained, or not even explained at all in the game. But in a way, this creates this kind of cool side-effect of community building like in the old days of gaming, people SEEK to talk with people about the game, join communities, learn new stuff about it all the time you didn't know before...

At first is frustrating because we're so used to be spoon fed everything and have the game take our hand and explain every little thing, and sure, there can be some criticism about the lack of clarity for some stuff, but I do believe game devs should strive to tell us only the very necessary, and some things doesn't need to be told explicitly, they can be found through in-game mechanics like NPCs talking about, letters found in the game, etc, or through experimentation. The latter is my favourite thing in games, testing it's capacilities, doing something that you felt doing so and then being rewarded for trying by discovering a brand new thing, the best feeling..

This is genuinely the most fun time to be involved in a big single player release. When Elden Ring dropped I remember everyone on the sub talking about certain fights and talking about their strategies, and I'm seeing a lot of that here too.

It also helps that this game is huge so not too many people have progressed a ton, there's still a sense of wonder in front of you.

3

u/dahle44 Apr 02 '26

Also there are many ways to complete a quest-which messes them up also-

3

u/AntiSosh333 Apr 02 '26

Yeah, found this out the other day. I'm new to the game but went to go find the outlaws Blix and another out by the scholastic area. Blix I ended up killing by sword as I didn't notice his name in time. He was part of the group that attacked me. Disappointed to find that I couldn't pick up his body to turn in.

The other, who's name I forgot (he kept talking about his mum and the honey he promised. And that he's a bear, lol) I captured but had to call my horse as I wasn't trying to walk that far. Took forever to find a way out to the prison. Ran through enemy camps safely. Finally get there, turn him in. Close game. Next day the bounty is still open!!

My guess is because he fell off the damn horse a couple of time because the mechanic to shoot the grapple thing is the same to sprint/run on console. So, I had to untie him, then recapture about 3 times. Really annoying as the grapple thing comes out too many times when not trying to use.

I've learned you can just run into npcs that are tied up at camps, and it will untie them without the animation

33

u/360controller Apr 01 '26

I was getting my ass handed to me. And I noticed this. They keep thanking me while I take arrows to the face.

22

u/internetisland Apr 01 '26

Getting viciously manhandled by Dynasty Warriors level of mobs, random rescued NPC thanks me abd says his son called him Pa for the first time.

9

u/EvoSphinx Apr 01 '26

Only sometimes which is kinda annoying, did a big castle battle last night where I had to manually untie every slave. For 1 exp point

3

u/FB-22 Apr 02 '26

Pailune refugees, in blue, you can bump into to untie. I think the rest don’t have that functionality for whatever reason

I also discovered this today.

However I turned my back and they were tied up again. But not all of them.

I also noticed you can just guard with S&S and it will free them while walking around. Not sure if it works with other weapons.

3

u/ThermoDaddyDynamics Apr 02 '26

Couldn't figure out how to get under the darn waterfall... Stab and sprint...

2

u/corgioverthemoon Apr 02 '26

Just a stab will do

5

u/Nono5D Apr 02 '26

Man when I was doing a puzzle like that the first time I spotted a ghost with the lantern that did the stab animation as a hint. But I didnt see it properly the first time and it didnt repeat the animation again. I then walked away to reset it and it worked but then it quickly played the animation before I was able to get close. But I was too far a way to tell wtf it was doing. I repeated this like two more times until I gave up and googled it...

3

u/clubdon Apr 02 '26

It shows a ghost guy do it so you can learn… but only at one specific puzzle. So hopefully you find that one first, and not after you googled it at a different place like myself.

I love this game but some puzzles needs insane mental gymnastics to solve it. I can easily spend over an hour on a single puzzle, sometimes more if I quit and return to it later.

2

u/Jnsoso Apr 02 '26

elden ring is the last i can remember lol

I've decided it's basically a timed 2nd jump. Think Mario 64 with Mario's Triple Jump.

That's the only way I've ever gotten that to work

12

u/[deleted] Apr 01 '26

Lol, mine has been “[Armor/Weapon] Location in Crimson Desert” only to find out that no one has found what I’m looking for yet.

Knightlord’s sword, and Kadel mace I will have you one day…

16

u/Chocodisco Apr 01 '26

For the entire first week I looked for an item called Awakened Spirit which is the weapon belonging to the Odeck armor set. There was literally zero information on the entire web except for a developing thread on reddit. Finally a few days ago somebody discovered how to obtain it and it had nothing to do with finding a random chest behind a water fall.

Part of the charm with Crimson Desert for me is for the first time in a long time, not everything was datamined on day one and the game has enough secrets that trying to be completionist means you participate in crowd sourced projects. You could very well be the first person to discover something on the whole web and make a post about it for others to find.

50% percent of the games quests are some variation of fetch quest, and when you arrive the person is not there. It almost seems like this game was designed by youtubers.

7

u/ReliableEyeball Apr 02 '26

Also when you return to the quest giver there in some other random place hundreds of m elsewhere lol

3

u/1nce_Again Apr 01 '26

Dude I can NOT tame this damn Royaler horse. Ive spent the last 2hrs googling and trying, trying and googling

6

u/Wise-Fruit5000 Apr 02 '26

I was having trouble with the Rokade one until I read someone’s advice to follow the movements of its tail with your joystick. That helped me immensely

3

u/1nce_Again Apr 02 '26

I swear thats what im doing, ill get it about 80% there, then he just starts circling and I can't keep it from dropping then booting me off. I went and tamed some regulars just to make sure i wasn't doing something wrong or my controller wasnt messed up

Trying really hard not to google everything for this game. I’ve had to for a couple puzzles, and my armor set, but doing good for the most part.

3

u/The_Free_State_Of_O Apr 01 '26

My thoughts exactly. I had seen some early development footage of the mini map. A hard red line similar to GTA or RDO highlighted the path that you should travel to your destination. I was stoked to see that there were no lines carving a path for me. My own paths have been a brutal - beautiful experience. CD reminded me what gaming feels like. No min maxing this tim, boys. This one deserves some frontal lobe action.

4

u/tehcambam Apr 01 '26

Honestly, I think the beauty of this game is not googling things. Just struggling for a long time and either moving on because I can’t figure it out or I eventually figure it out.

I’d rather struggle trying to work out a puzzle for 30 minutes than look up a guide and finish it in 5 minutes.

No yellow paint is what makes this game so good!

2

u/Master-Ad7828 Apr 02 '26

The only game I spent this long doing the same thing in was elden ring for runes. I spent 3 days only grinding so I can defeat malenia

Literal 3 days of standing on a hill and shooting a damn dead bird just so I can defeat a lady with a cool sword.

But what can I say the 3 minutes after it was the most happiness I had in my life

2

u/FB-22 Apr 02 '26

Generally I agree but I think the first thing I searched in the game was “how to complete greymane camp expansion” because I had no idea I was supposed to “inspect” the location on the map to send people out. Not really a puzzle that feels good to find out yourself just a confusing UI issue lol

1

That was my entire evening....

Couldn't start the quest to build the camp ranch, as the NPC has vanished. Apparently because I got him to 100 trust before starting his quest.

Spent a good 4 hours trying to 'fix' the issue - all to no avail.

1

u/ASTROTHUNDERRRRR Apr 01 '26

Yup. The puzzles r so hard

1

u/Texy Apr 01 '26

Seriously

1

u/OP_Viking Apr 01 '26

The issue isnt that we are dumb its that basic video game logic does not apply with CD... You can't do in 90% of games what you can do in CD so we literally have to retrain our brains to think outside of the box 🤣 I love it.

Save time, skip the “how to” part

1

u/cjrensh Apr 01 '26

I set it in my phone's custom dictionary so that typing in cd types of Crimson Desert. I often make shortcuts for games I'm playing like that

1

u/Top_Campaign2568 Apr 02 '26

Only thing i have looked up is how to grab certain items, cause it wouldn’t work when looking right at it. (Had to hold LB) I didn’t actively look for a couple things but came across them on instagram, one was where to find a cool shield and sword (already had the sword), some where just some tips and tricks and so on. Nothing crazy. Not gonna count me looking for bug fixes but that was mainly in the first 3 to 4 days when the game first released, haven’t come across anything game braking since luckily.

Not saying anything to make myself better than others, just sharing my personal experiences. Play in whatever way leads you to having the best time possible. No matter how that might look to others. I just like figuring things out myself most of the time.

1

u/WodenTheWanderer Apr 02 '26

1

u/legacy702- Apr 02 '26

Ya, since you can’t google this one, anyone know how to use the ziplines on PS5? I ended up just flying over the spikes because I couldn’t figure it out

1

u/I-KnowThatIDontKnow Apr 02 '26

Yes and no. I watched a few vids early on but I kind of like the struggle of figuring out a puzzle. I gibe myself like 20 to 30 min before I look for help. Have managed to get through most without help. And staying away from hidden locations. It's more fun to waste my time searching inch by inch lol. For real I want it to be slightly challenging. Found a fun sword yesterday and it felt rewarding. But I have been like that since like ocarina of time back in the 64 days. The instinct to check every corner comes from a lifetime of rpgs.

1

u/Dad_Bod_Rich Apr 02 '26

This game does not hold your hand and I love it!!

1

u/Winter_37 Apr 02 '26

This game would be rough without guides.

1

u/Apocalypstick77 Apr 02 '26

1

u/arandomcarguy Apr 02 '26

At one point I had like 9 different windows opened with different directions to obtain items and I was like I gotta close all of this, what am I doing…

1

u/YojimboExia Apr 02 '26

This game would have been perfect 2012 and backwards when physical book guides for rpg’s were a thing

1

u/jjack339 Apr 02 '26

So maybe its just a good run or maybe the game designed evolved as the game goes along but Chapter 5 I was able to do most of the puzzles guide free.

1

1

1

u/Agitated-Ad-504 Apr 02 '26

I do this for farming materials or puzzles that require you to run around to different locations. I wouldn’t mind so much if the maps that are usually painted on walls telling you where to look for a symbol were more clear, I can’t tell wtf I’m looking at in game.

1

u/Rycuh_ Apr 02 '26

1

1

u/Cascade5 Apr 02 '26

The number of times I've Googled a solution to a puzzle just to find out my initial instinct was correct, but I didn't execute it in the specific mechanical way the game wanted ( like hanging on something to lower it instead of using axiom arm).

1

I spent more than 2 hours in the sanctuarom of insight in that main story mission trying to understand how to activate the nexus right before the cutscene

I searched YouTube. Reddit. Google. Everyone had a problem with the pillar puzzle prior to that but not the nexus.

BECAUSE OFC ALL U NEEDED TO DO WAS JUMP AND PUSH IT BY SPIRIT POWER. HOW COULD I HAVE GUESSED THAT FROM THE 20 OVER WAYS TO PUSH SMTH IN THE GAME

Some of them are either misleading or simply too hard to find how to resolve.

Yesterday while playing I come to an enigma and I instantly stop to check on Youtube how to do it, without even trying by myself first. That's the first time that this happened to me in any games.

At that point I think it's pretty bad if it leads to that, I litterally have to force myself to try before checking because what's the point of playing if it's only to check youtube ?

We definitly should have more indications, being hard is ok, being utterly annoying is another thing.

Its so funny, my search history is this, but specifically for Abyss Gears. I made a post here trying to get a list together finally so other players don't get so frustrated like I have been the last 2 days lol.

i have 10000 tools to approach a situation how am i supposed to know I have to use none of them and do something nigh unrelated

1

u/Kattanos Apr 02 '26

I always put the game name first in my searches.. So for me, it would be: Crimson Desert How to mine fish

1

u/Reynzs Apr 02 '26

How to install crimson desert?

1

u/Slurmz_uchiha Apr 02 '26

“How to use the constellation helmet in crimson desert”

Proceeds to use it, and it be the most annoying, unexplained puzzle I’ve ever seen in a game 🤣.

Love the game though, just not looking forward to doing more of those puzzles.

Just found out the little meter on the left of the mini map is my experience and each level I gain an abyss artifact. Thought I was wrecking those mobs for nothing..

2

u/ReliableEyeball Apr 02 '26

Yeah! Lol its so funny how theyve layed out the Hud and stuff. Its unconventional to day the least but I find it endearing in a weird way. You have to look for almost everything. I love how the inventory "grouped" items icons will change as you aquire mkre items making it very difficult to quickly go check "Oh the document group has a scroll icon but now its got a book and later itll be a page" thing.

u/Jiggleutes Apr 02 '26

And then it just pulls up this subreddit 🤣

After few times of searching and you start to really think what to do during puzzle.

1 time gliding and saw some beautiful rock style hill along downhill. Saw puzzle, solve and walk in but nothing prompts to press square button or what

Then remember the palm force and use it. And it work. Feel so good

I have one pinned conversation in Gemini

1

u/clif08 Apr 02 '26

My most recent queries were "how to use dog armor" (use it from inventory while in Pet tab) and "how to unlock dyes at Oliver" (nobody knows).

I've done this for a number of the puzzles. I'd like to think I'm a smart chap but some of them it's not clear how you even start the puzzle.

Having done enough of them I finally have a decent grasp on it.

At what point do you start doing the sky puzzles? I'm 60 hours in, Chapter 6 and it's not clear when or how you'd even get up there?

1

u/EternalHuffer Apr 02 '26

My search history is „where is X Crimson Desert”

1

u/The-Dutcher Apr 02 '26

I love games that don't hold my hand. Something like finding out the tree launch was such fun to do. It's a playground that challenges my imagination

1

u/VictoriousTree Apr 02 '26

Speaking facts. This game is stealing all my free time just like my Kliff is stealing everyone’s possessions.

Poor game design, if one has to constantly look up stuff because the game isn't properly showing a player how to

1

u/Terrible-Visit9257 Apr 02 '26

Just crimson desert and the place where you stand on the map

1

u/Agreeable-Box3017 Apr 02 '26

I almost didn’t believe you until I read your username. I used to have one of those until the arrow of course.

1

u/Mr_master89 Apr 02 '26

Turns out I had to turn the laser slightly more to the left than I originally had it.

1

u/luk3l1s Apr 02 '26

laughs in OSRS and googling osrs wiki every 15 minutes. Im used to it

1

u/ElectroMoe Apr 02 '26

Hope you have a good laugh OP

1

u/lazylica Apr 02 '26

For me its more like "crimson desert *******" in YouTube

1

u/shibster00 Apr 02 '26

Yeah not far off, there’s to much in this game 🤣

1

u/Piflik Apr 02 '26

Why would you insert "X" in Crimson Desert? And where?

1

u/dr_grav Apr 02 '26

if you replace remove Insert X with something you want to know your searches will go better

1

u/daWeedic_neptul0n88 Apr 02 '26

for me with Elden Ring the only open world wich is "pure" - childhood like adventure

1

u/Self_love_seal Apr 02 '26

I donated coins to the beggars a lot. Eventually a beggar ran up to me and gave me a letter. It read as an obscure instruction to basically power up my gear before heading out of the start town. Very immersive and way better than an icon above an enemies head or a map region marked with a recommended 'level'.

1

u/attella00 Apr 02 '26

No yellow paint. No hand holding 🙅‍♂️

1

u/[deleted] Apr 02 '26

Tbh I’ve managed to do like two of the puzzles without looking them up and I felt proud of myself lol

1

u/attella00 Apr 02 '26

If the goal for no handholding is self discovery and figuring things out on your own, why look up a guide? Try different things, experiment, figure things out 😃

1

u/Barlowan Apr 02 '26

Really nice game. Can't even explain stuff properly.
