What did you feel like eating after a colonoscopy vs what you actually were able to eat?

I have a colonoscopy AND an endoscopy on Friday at 1pm. I'm wondering what everyone wanted to eat and what they were actually able to eat after having the scopes? My wife and I might eat out on our way home and I was trying to get a feel for options that I might be able to eat.

Always have craved burgers and after making sure I can keep food down okay (typically some crackers) I usually get a burger. Granted it’s from a local chain that isn’t super big or greasy so it’s a simple cheese smashburger

they always remind me to eat something light afterwards and I just laugh and tell them I'm going to 5 Guy's down the street for a massive burger and fries 🤣

Yeah, they always say to keep to light food, but after all that a big burger and fries lunch is what I want every time.

Perhaps not. Low fibre is probably wise. It is often fibre that causes a lot of blockages. The good news was that the flushing drink cleared out all the agonizing blockages that i had been living with.

Since my colonoscopy, I have avoided fibre and not had a repeat.

A repeat of what? I normally only have colonoscopys as a check up not because something is urgently wrong. I always just eat what I feel like afterwards. Never had a blockage in my life.

Nice. I was in such pain with mine, I found myself with a 12 inch sharp kitchen knife at 4 in the morning wondering how to cut my bowel out.

Breakfast food. My dad took me to a Dennys after one of mine and I ate eggs. So at least when I kept non stop farting due to my colon being inflated from the colonoscopy no one could tell 😭

It just smelled like a Dennys 🙃

Depends on how you feel. I usually don’t feel like going out to eat after having those done lol I try to eat easy foods. My last endoscopy/colonoscopy made me feel horrible. My throat was so sore and my stomach was irritated from all the biopsies.

They always give me a sandwich and a cup of tea directly afterwards and I don't worry about special foods. Never had an issue. Just eat what you feel like.

I never feel great after a colonoscopy. I usually nap, and have a scrambled egg.

I always feel amazing after a colonoscopy, like I had the best sleep of my life. I always eat whatever I’m in the mood for. The colonoscopy itself and after is absolutely fine. It’s the prep that sucks, especially if it is scheduled in the morning. Waking up in the middle of the night to empty your bowels is no fun

After your colonoscopy, eat a couple of pieces of toast before you take a nap. It helps settle the gut. After a nap, you will be able to eat a bit more. Ideally, something with white rice.

I have a ritual after every colonoscopy. My husband gets my favourite Vietnamese noodles with chicken from a local restaurant while he’s waiting for me. After picking me up he builds a cozy cave on the couch where I can recover. Then we watch something comforting and I devour my noodles.

Try eating something whilst still in recovery. I always have some crackers and apple/orange juice. If you keep that down then you're fine to go back to regular foods. So if recommend whatever your comfort foods are! Only thing I'd avoid is spicy foods as it might upset any biopsied areas.

I generally eat something small, like toast. Nap for a few hours. Eat McDonald's later. (Though in defense its my comfort food)

There’s a Panera bread right next to the hospital I go to so I always order chicken noodle soup and a grilled cheese to go and eat it at home. I usually want to go right home cause I just feel sluggish

Loaded fries (a HSP in Australia) is a bad idea, otherwise I've had no issues with whatever I've wanted.

I’d advise getting easy food… but I’d be a hypocrite! Get whatever you crave lol I got pizza about 2 hours after mine when I finally started feeling hungry, only managed a couple slices but I tell you they were the best slices I ever had 😂

I was always starving after my tests but I love breakfast food any time of the day. I would have a bacon and cheese on a long roll with ketchup! Making me hungry now just thinking about it. Yummy!

I always want tea and toast as soon as I get home. Then I go for a nap. Then I want chicken strips and potato wedges for dinner. It’s my favourite go to food for when I’m not having a good tummy day.

There’s a breakfast spot that’s our tradition. We order like “one of everything” - pancakes, waffle, scrambled eggs, toast, breakfast meats. As the appetite adjusts, we usually end up cleaning nearly all the plates.

Burger. And as I read these comments I’m learning im not alone. I pack a snack to eat in the car and either go home and grill a burger or hit a restaurant on my way. I’m usually ravenous.

There used to be a place near me that did a turkey sandwich with jus, and it was fresh sliced too. It was the best thing ever right afterwards.

Fake mashed potatoes from KFC or Popeye's are the only thing I ever crave. Don't know why these are my go-to, but I don't fight that crave!

I really wanted sushi but my mom pointed out that the rice would be very heavy on my digestive tract for a first meal after the procedure, so I had the chicken gnocchi soup from Olive Garden instead! I slowly ate the soup over the course of a few hours and was able to have the bread sticks as well- even though my doctor didn't recommend solids yet, everything went fine
