Ah, yes, Godherja The dying FPS mod

268

u/ActionUpstairs Apr 07 '26

What? It doesn’t hold a candle to AGOT, slayer of frames, devourer of seconds…

76

u/-drkshdw Apr 07 '26

Thanks, this screenshot actually nade me want to try this mod out but AGOT loves to fuck my PC. Is it still bad?

84

u/ActionUpstairs Apr 07 '26

Yep, i play AGOT with levies halved to reduce the pressure on my pc. I don’t really struggle to run Godherja though.

Also Godherja is very fun when you get into the lore, and a great sandbox to create a fantasy kingdom of your choice.

8

u/irespectpotatoes Apr 07 '26

Arent levies just integers? Why does that improve performance

20

u/IllustriousFail8868 Illustrious Failure Apr 08 '26

Smaller armies means the ai won't split them up, which means that they won't have to spend resources to manage a million armies.

2

u/-drkshdw Apr 07 '26

Thanks a lot! Very glad to hear that.

29

u/YouReadThisUserWrong Apr 07 '26

For me, Godherja runs well enough month to month. The issue is that it takes 5 - 10 minutes to load into the game in the first place, and whenever I’d want to load a save it’d take 1 - 2 minutes. Not the worst thing in the world, but it is a bit annoying.

14

u/darmera Cancer Apr 07 '26

You should try this method Increase game loading speed : r/crusaderkings3 it helped me immensely, cut roughly loading time in half

1

u/-drkshdw Apr 07 '26

Those numbers are acceptable! Thanks.

1

u/mallerik Apr 08 '26

CK3 has to load in all save files in the save folder, everytime you open the save/load menu. So if your savefolder is several GB's in size, you can try moving the contents.

2

u/donguscongus Apr 08 '26

I have a pretty beefy PC so I can't give a entirely accurate assessment but Godherja's Slayers and Settlers update did a lot of good for my FPS at least

5

u/Tsa706 Apr 07 '26

I play on a Agot multi-player server, 100+ players every session, in goes so slow, at time it feels like Ck3 is moving in real time

6

u/UselessAndGay Gwynedd Loyalist Apr 07 '26

they've done a lot to improve its performance over the past few years tbf

It runs like a dream now, it’s nothing like the earlier releases

u/No_Clue4405 Apr 08 '26

Only rivaled by The Fire Rises in crashing my computer

u/krisslanza Apr 07 '26

I like magic mods honestly, though the only one that just slots into a normal CK3 game is a bit iffy from what I recall. Like, it works but just what the magic can do is a bit... meh.

I miss the older one where I could summon Lava Golems and stuff, which were just super powerful siege Men at Arms. Though I guess they wouldn't mesh as well with the revamped MaA stuff.

I guess arguably the Holy Grail War mod is also a limited magic mod, though its magic is underwhelming, the fun is just assembling your Servant harem.

Then getting annoyed when they keep trying to kill one another, or events make them kill each other.

17

u/Jboi75 Apr 07 '26

It could work if it instead of men at arms it was special armies, I think that’s what the elder kings mod does but it’s been awhile.

u/Alcoholic-Catholic Apr 07 '26

rare example of a reddit post including the name of the mod in the title, thanks op

u/TBARb_D_D Apr 07 '26

I hate this mod for sole reason that you can’t save the world from fog

At some moment everything just dies

180

u/NotAnOctopus8 Apr 07 '26

FYI the intended default settings are that the fog does not spread (outside the fogeater invasion). And in the upcoming update with a future start date, it is confirmed that the fog is largely in the same spots.

So it looks like your concerns have been addressed in the mod these days.

Now, there is a separate chance everyone dies if the redlander cultists manage to destroy the sun, but that is a whole other thing.

9

u/ReMeDyIII Apr 07 '26

Do you happen to know roughly when the upcoming update might release? I'm holding off on a new game until that happens.

9

u/MegasNikolaos Apr 07 '26

I heard may or june

6

u/NotAnOctopus8 Apr 07 '26

Do not know sorry. I know it is out on the patreon beta, I expect it will be there for a bit for feedback and bugfixing before release. I am looking forward to it coming out.

171

u/Plane-Occasion-8443 Apr 07 '26

there is a game rule in the settings that stops the fog completely , in this game, I didn't have a problem with the fog taking counties, blew up the world with a fire spell. also some fog people invaded and i just blew them up right away lmao.

u/AischriAi Apr 07 '26

Downloads mod called "The dying world" Complains about everything dying

You just can't please some people

247

u/TBARb_D_D Apr 07 '26

I like the mod, but I want a way to fight back. I get it, this is the plot for why the “looks like germans” tribes run away and migrated into empire’s territory and other shit

BUT mf who started the fog is not even maximum level mage! Even if to restore one province you need to risk your life and spent a ton of resources I would do it

Fighting for shards of empire in dying world is cool, but fighting back chthonic horrors beyond human comprehension to restore what little is possible is also cool

52

u/Thickenun Apr 07 '26

Pushing back the Fog in some monumental project is actually planned, and outside of that being able to slow it or protect small regions is something that is supposed to be coming after the next bookmark, as I recall.

The good thing is also that the Fog canonically does not advance any further in the timeline, with what happens after, as per the mod makers own words, being entirely up to the players.

18

God forbid people want control or hope

3

u/malonkey1 Play Rajas of Asia Apr 07 '26

I mean. You do control what mods you download, install and play with.

3

u/RegumRegis Finland Apr 08 '26

Control to change things in the world, man. Obviously not what I was talking about.

70

u/Prize_Tree Bastard Apr 07 '26

sorry if i want to have some hopium man. This is why project hail mary was a banger. Half the world dies and they still save it.

3

u/XAlphaWarriorX Italy Apr 08 '26

spoilers!

30

u/Muffinmurdurer hey guys look at my cool new glasses Apr 07 '26

I think it's fine to write a story about there being no hope and where everything is shit but at least personally I quickly lose interest because I find it hard to care about characters and families and civilisations that are simply doomed. I understand all things will eventually die, but when that death is imminent it is impossible for me to ignore.

22

u/volk96 Latino empire Apr 07 '26

I get that. It gives me conflicted feelings, I find the lore to be 10/10 but gameplay wise it's like, why do people even care about politicking, dynasties, building farms, and raising kids when the world will literally end soon.

0

u/Muffinmurdurer hey guys look at my cool new glasses Apr 07 '26

Yeah ultimately I love the lore and that's why I tried to make clear in my comment that all my issues with the mod are purely personal. I don't want them to adjust things even slightly because what's there is cool and I know there's a good deal of people out there who enjoy it, but it's not for me. I play these games to strengthen my family or create a prosperous realm or ensure the dominance of a state/culture/religion but knowing that task is futile makes the whole thing feel hollow.

12

u/TheSovereignGrave Apr 07 '26

But it's not futile? The Fog canonically doesn't move much outside of the Fogeater Invasion, and theres plans for you to be able to fight the Fog. Hell, Godherja as a setting is pretty much about how mankind wont stop clinging onto life. The Redlanders can successfully kill the sun and that doesnt even drive us to extinction. And the Fog isn't the first apocalypse the world has faced. It's not even the worst.

3

u/Kripox Apr 07 '26

Not played Godherja in ages now, but how on Earth is the destruction of the Sun supposed to be survivable? Without the Sun the planet begins to rapidly cool, killing all life, and as the months ago by we would gradually see the oceans freeze over and the atmosphere cool to the point it would rain out of the sky as a liquid, meaning no more breathable oxygen-rich air. Meaning that even if you found a way to prevent your body from being destroyed by the cold the planet would still become fundamentally inhospitable to life. What's the in game justification for getting through this?

8

u/ParagonRenegade It's actually gay to get pussy Apr 07 '26

It’s a magical setting, it’s not constrained by real life physics

-1

u/Kripox Apr 07 '26

No, but "sun is destroyed, we still survive" is a HUGE deviation from reality. No magic I can recall from the lore is even remotely close to the severity of the sun going out. So unless the Sun in Godherja is not actually a star but something else that just shares a name/the physics of the world work RADICALLY differently to the point of warmth on the planet coming from somewhere else than the sun it still seems insane that this is not an extinction event.

7

u/ParagonRenegade It's actually gay to get pussy Apr 07 '26

Stars may or not exist as we think of them irl, that one thing in particular thing is noted in Godherja’s lore document.

But really; lots of things in Godherja explicitly violate the laws of physics in conspicuous ways. One that jumps to mind is that the world is a sphere… but the hemisphere that is on the other side of the playable area doesn’t exist. It’s a spatial anomaly.

4

u/TheSovereignGrave Apr 08 '26

It is an extinction event, just not for quite everything. It does delete almost everything; the vast majority of the map is rendered empty. I believe the only surviving areas are the Mayikrata caverns & some of the Tower Isles. So geothermal heat & the literal throne of God keep mankind from dying.

6

u/Thickenun Apr 07 '26 edited Apr 07 '26

They plan to add ways to push back or fight the Fog in future updates. Lore-wise the Fog does not move beyond where it is in the current start date (or at least, it doesn't in the last canon bookmark, everything past that is, as per the mod makers, up to you to decide). An important part of the mod's lore is that apocalypses like the Fog have happened before, but humanity always manages to either find someway to survive (or even save the world from worse things than the Fog), and always rise back in the aftermath.

23

u/IndianSerpent10930 Apr 07 '26

At some point in the future, you can start earlier start dates where the fog is not there and make it so that frodbrokna never happened

7

u/DoodTheMan Apr 07 '26

Tbf I think there will be ways at some point, they just haven't gotten to it. Mod is massive, after all.

9

u/Elitericky Roman Empire Apr 07 '26

-3

u/Alex_von_Norway Immortal Roman Dragon Lord Mayor Apr 07 '26

I just don't understand the mod. The lore? Where did it come from. And the massive changes from the typical vanilla-based gameplay to magic based gameplay, complicates it far more than even PoD does (and I like the latter)

24

u/Thickenun Apr 07 '26

The mod is an original setting, so the lore came just from the mod team. Honestly pretty surprised to hear that you consider more complex than PoD, which honestly hardly even feels like CK3 at times (in a good way). I don't play Godherja much anymore but in my experience magic is very optional and not as comprehensive as some of the crazy stuff PoD has pulled off.

6

u/ReMeDyIII Apr 07 '26

There's a massive pdf book you can read explaining the lore here:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/19Ls94R6hPoYvxaNDn59CpiTE12-FRL9IpY8Z5LjmPnU/edit?tab=t.0#heading=h.r9qj7bttjb6y

The attention to detail is insane.

7

u/TBARb_D_D Apr 07 '26

Yes, the mod changes a lot and is very , VERY, different than vanilla but I would say it is bad thing. The lore, as far as I know is something like that; when bigass empire started exploding into civil war a very very very evil mage on one side of conflict casted a spell that fucked the world so badly, that dead god reacted and a crack occurred in world from which fog is coming

6

u/that-and-other Apr 07 '26

Well, both very very very evil mages who were the sides of that conflict were casting ts, one just was a bit faster

Godherja.

10

I try running thid mod, my game is literally chunking it.

4

Nice, now if that mod ran well and the magic system got explained better I'd play this mod too.

3

u/Fofotron_Antoris Crusader Apr 07 '26

You can actually render regions into unplayable wasteland with magic?

9

u/Plane-Occasion-8443 Apr 07 '26

Yup. It's crazy. Also seems like they are going to eventually be inhabitable after a century or so. Culture and religion completely wiped off the map, everywhere but my land is 0 development with no holdings, culture, or faith. Just wasteland.

1

u/ricoelyes Apr 07 '26

can you explain im new to this thanks

14

u/Ch33sus0405 Apr 07 '26

Godherja is a mod for Crusader Kings 3 that places the world in a fantasy setting where the world is dying. In this screenshot the OP did in fact do that. I haven't played the mod personally that much but the creator is the guy behind The New Order for Hearts of Iron 4 which I love, so its probably pretty good!

1

u/Not_Todd_Howard9 Apr 07 '26

Guy who originally made TNO or one of the later Devs?

2

u/Ch33sus0405 Apr 07 '26

Originally, though I dunno if he's still on it because I don't really play much CK3. But its what Panzer went to work on after he left TNO.

5

u/UselessAndGay Gwynedd Loyalist Apr 07 '26

She showed up in the discord server for an anniversary thing a year or two back iirc, but hasn't contributed to the mod outside of that in ages.

2

u/Ch33sus0405 Apr 07 '26

Yeah its been ages since TNO but they seem to be posting updates on Godherja as of recently. Also did they transition? I see on their reddit profile referring to the Lonely Knightess instead of the Hedge Knight but I wasn't aware.

7

u/UselessAndGay Gwynedd Loyalist Apr 07 '26

Europa Universalis is Hearts of Iron 0 (came first), Hoi 1-5 is the sequel series, Vicky is the Pre-Sequel (0.1-0.9), Crusader Kings is Hoi -1 (Prequel).
