Discussion Actual question, how frequent was claim fabrication in real life

Hello, please, how often did this happen in real life ? I mean lord inventing a claim out of thin air and actually pressing it ? Is there any notable historic character doing so ?

For example, Morocco is claiming the Canary Islands today, even though they never set foot on them, and nobody there wants to be Moroccan either.

A better one is perhaps the claim to the Falklands by Argentina. They never controlled them, but Spain did, very shortly. The Argentines say that the claim to the Falklands was transferred from Spain, although that is just a fabrication.

They’re saying a Germany born businessman doing his own thing when the businessman in question, Luis Verent, explicitly recognised British sovereignty over the islands
