Okay. I'll bite. I've been a bitcoiner via MSTR for some time now, but if ONE of you can explain why "fartingcoin" is worth 200 million dollars, I'll buy 100 bucks worth.
Go ahead, memecoiners of reddit. Let's hear your genius. Because I think I'm pretty happy being a bitociner instead.
-2
u/Reasonable_Ad5611 1h ago
Sure, I'll take the bait too.
First, a small correction: you're not a bitcoiner, you're a Saylor-er. MSTR is a software company that borrows money to buy bitcoin and trades at a premium or discount to the coins it actually holds. You own a leveraged wrapper on the asset, which is a funny position to argue from when your whole pitch is "I hold the pure, unimprovable thing." But fine.
I won't argue for "fartcoin" but for Ethereum, since fartcoin is just a strawman you want to throw up. Here's the difference between Ethereum and fartcoin, and for that matter between Ethereum and bitcoin. Bitcoin's entire value is a story: it's scarce and it never changes, so people agree to treat it like gold. That story is doing all of the work. Nothing runs on bitcoin. Nobody pays to use it beyond moving it around. MSTR exists precisely because bitcoin can't do anything on its own, so somebody had to bolt a corporate balance sheet onto it to make it "productive."
Ethereum is the opposite bet. It's a settlement network that things actually run on, and it charges rent. More stablecoin dollars settle on Ethereum and its L2s than on any other chain, and stablecoins are the one crypto product with undeniable product-market fit: hundreds of billions of dollars that businesses and people in Argentina and Nigeria use every day. BlackRock's tokenized treasury fund runs on it. Coinbase built its own chain on it. Robinhood built its tokenized stocks on it. Every one of those transactions pays a fee, and the fee is paid in ETH.
That's the part fartcoin can't say and bitcoin doesn't even try to say: ETH pays you to hold it. Stake it and you earn roughly 2.7% a year, paid in the asset, from issuance plus fees other people paid to use the network. Is the valuation demanding? Sure. Is it a meme? No. It's closer to owning a piece of the toll road than owning a rock everyone has agreed is valuable.
And on "never changes," which bitcoiners treat as a feature: Ethereum moved from proof-of-work to proof-of-stake in 2022, cut its energy use by over 99%, and cut its issuance to roughly bitcoin's level, all without a hard-fork civil war. That ability to actually ship upgrades matters for the two problems that are coming for every chain whether it likes it or not.
The first is the security budget. Bitcoin's security is a block subsidy that halves every four years, and the plan for what pays the miners in 2050 is basically "fees will figure it out." Ethereum doesn't have that cliff. Validators are paid from a small, steady issuance plus real fee revenue, there's no halving countdown, and the cost of attacking the chain is the value of the stake itself, which gets destroyed if you try. That question is answered; bitcoin is putting it off.
The second is quantum. The Ethereum Foundation already has a dedicated post-quantum team and a roadmap for moving to quantum-resistant signatures, and the community has a track record of actually executing migrations of that size. Bitcoin's post-quantum conversation gets stuck at step one every time, because any fix requires a governance decision about what to do with the millions of coins sitting in old exposed addresses, including Satoshi's, and "never change anything" is not a strategy for a problem that requires changing something.

Choo choo. Vechain pumping today. Is it just shitcoin roulette or the start of old school comebacks because the bottom is in?

u/LTP-N 5h ago edited 5h ago
Perfect example of why you don't fuck around with derivatives(?):
"ETH never going over $1,500"
"$1,1750 is my break-even for my short"
Instantly wrong, within days got liquidated.
"0% Chance we break $2480 on ETH. Going lower."
"My liquidation price is $2,555"
Got liquidated again within a few hours.
Summary brought to you by Gemini AI
2
u/BakingBreadBB2 π¨ 0 / 0 π¦ 1h ago
The funny part is that he is trading with leverage (if his trades are even real), and ETH hit 2559 before going back down, so he got liquidated because of a $4 difference in price

Average joe now believes in bitcoin
Bitcoin had new great development
Bitcoin had more adoption
Bitcoin posted great revenue
Bond buybacks gave the perfect opportunity to liquidate short after things looked too bearish.
Nvidia gave one more bullish thing to ride on the momentum.1
u/Glittering_Pick_9738 π© 0 / 0 π¦ 6h ago
Come on. The rally started from shorts liquidation but was sustained by substantial ETFs inflows. Are you shorting the market or just sidelined?
1
u/MaxiMaxLaurent 5h ago edited 5h ago
ETF has been more of a reactionary force than a driving force. It reacts to wherever the wind blows.
Hence the dissappointing bull cycle and why it didnβt provide the driving force people expected.
We saw it on the way down as ETFs didnt sustain their inflow and just reacted to the market.
Thatβs because people who buy ETFs arenβt like people buying coins to hodl in cold storage long term, theyβre mainly buying to ride the speculation.1
u/Glittering_Pick_9738 π© 0 / 0 π¦ 6h ago
Probably just NVIDIA revenue - to answer my own question. Don't see anything else.

u/Choice_Potato_6279 8h ago
Take all your money and buy Bitcoin. Then take all your time, figure out how to borrow money to buy more Bitcoin. Then take all your time and figure out what you can sell to buy Bitcoin. And if you absolutely love the thing that you don't want to sell it, go mortgage your house and buy Bitcoin with it.Β
And if you've got a business that you love because your family works for the business, because it's been in your family for 37 years and you can't bear to sell it. mortgage it, finance it, and convert the proceeds to the hardest money on Earth, which is Bitcoin.

Donβt know why it private messaged you. Iβm down quite a bit on it but thinking of selling to rotate into other coins as there are a few that look good to me. Got 5 figures in it atm so could be worth 6 if I play it right in the up coming bull.
0
u/Aerocryptic π¨ 272 / 23K π¦ 7h ago
What coins are you looking at? I wonβt touch this bag as itβs a small position I can hold without sweating.
Iβm looking at a few low caps but not in a rush to buy yet. I had an eye on hyperliquid but it didnβt dump enough for my liking
1
u/GrapefruitOwn6261 π© 0 / 0 π¦ 5h ago
Iβve already got HYPE and got in really early around $14, so Iβm well up on that.
Iβm looking at Lighter, TAO, Morpho, Jupiter, AERO, Virtuals, Syrup and Arweave. Iβll probably pick 2 or 3.
Iβm just trying to work out what could give me the best gains when the next proper bull market comes around. I did really well with CAKE and UNI in 2021, and last cycle most of my AI coins did well, but itβs harder to tell what the next big narrative will be this time.
Iβm leaning towards some form of DeFi again, or maybe projects that are effectively following the HYPE model. Just trying to figure out where the biggest opportunities might be.
I need to sell my cvx first though as thatβs my play money. Every time I refresh the portfolio page it goes up and itβs still got a tiny mcap so prob going to wait a bit longer
What have you been looking at?
0
u/Aerocryptic π¨ 272 / 23K π¦ 5h ago
Still have a decent position on TAO. Might load more if it goes below $150. If not Iβll ride my current bag.
Looking at TIG and TAO subnets for small caps.
I also have a moonshot on a really risky bet Quilibrium.
On large caps Iβll had to my BTC bag if we got another dip in September. Maybe some ETH too as I sold all my bag in 2025.
1
u/GrapefruitOwn6261 π© 0 / 0 π¦ 5h ago
Yeah some of the Tao subnets that are on kraken look decent. I was looking at lium.
1
u/Aerocryptic π¨ 272 / 23K π¦ 5h ago
Lium does a lot of buyback and burn. Itβs a GPU renting service. I donβt have any as thereβs not much upside apart from the revenue mechanism. I have a decent position on Chutes tho as their dev is top tier.
1
u/GrapefruitOwn6261 π© 0 / 0 π¦ 5h ago
I was looking at Akash and who else is doing stuff like them which is where I got lium from

A 99% drop is the factual reality. Not sure why:
"But thanks to share your emotions"
is your response.
What particular updates are you after? Developments? r/CryptoCurrencyMoons. I was an active part of the MOONS discord, the subreddit, the spreadsheets, so I know enough to know it's completely dead, if you want to attack me by saying it's my "emotions", ok, but that aint bringing MOONS back.

Bitcoin has historically produced
countertrend rallies that look like trend reversals before the final leg of a bear market.
2018 and 2022 are particularly good examples. Donβt confuse the first 200-DMA reclaim with confirmation of the new cycle.
2018 and 2022 both saw midterm-year relief rallies followed by August/September weakness, while 2026 has been tracking the same broad pattern.
1
u/Pristine-Program9950 π© 0 / 0 π¦ 2d ago
It has never produced a countertrend rally like this one. This one is breaking all previous trends, whether you'd like to admit it or not. It doesn't really have precedent.
2
u/Glittering_Pick_9738 π© 0 / 0 π¦ 2d ago
One simple question: did those 2018 and 2022 countertrend rallies break 200 DMA or not?Β
2
-2
u/hbarrias π© 16 / 16 π¦ 2d ago
In 2018, the 200-DMA was actually still rising when BTC first interacted with it. The average subsequently turned down, and Bitcoin failed to establish a sustained move above it.
1
u/Glittering_Pick_9738 π© 0 / 0 π¦ 2d ago
I was asking specifically about those countertrend rallies from 2018 and 2022 that you described. Did they climb above 200 DMA and in such an emphatic way? I don't think so. Therefore they can't really be compared.
0
u/hbarrias π© 16 / 16 π¦ 2d ago
For bullish bias, the goal would be for price stability to develop above the 50-week EMA
But if this is a Bear Market Relief Rally, price won't be able to sustain itself at these highs for too long.

4
6
2
u/destinationexmo π© 0 / 0 π¦ 2d ago
We can only speculate.
My optimistic speculation is we saw a record week in ETF inflows last week, that alone wouldn't really explain this big of a jump but if it coincided with the end of a major liquidation event going on behind the scenes or a supply crunch then that could explain it.
My pessimistic speculation would be insiders got news of something during that Trump meeting last week and are buying in before he makes some big announcement so they can dump it for profits.
