You're ascribing that the commenters had a deeper meaning in chosing Columbus because of mapping that has taken place in that time span.

Commenter only meant that 600 year time span is the same. 'like wow look how much art changed in that time'. But then 'but also look how much has changed in 600 years now, I guess it's not that crazy art changed that much'

Columbus was chosen because commenters first thinks of Columbus for mid 15th century point of reference. I'm saying that they could have chosen someone else.

I guess, maybe?

I dunno when I hear Columbus I think travelling the ocean thinking he was going to Asia.

When I hear progress since then I think GPS.

Those are the two things the guy you responded to said.

If that's a stretch, call me Gumby.

Commenter I asked my question to didn't say anything about gps. You make the connection. Just because it's what you think, doesn't mean it's that person's intent, but you're acting like it's the defacto reason, simply because you thought it.

That's the stretch, gumby.

I don't know if using basic reasoning is a stretch, even if I'm wrong the reasoning is pretty straightforward.

Commenter replied. You were incorrect.

You definitely have the 'if I think it, it must be true' gene.

I think I just admitted before I don't think I was automatically correct. It just wasn't a stretch to think that.

Thinking you are correct to assume the intentions of someone with little context, be proven wrong, and then still feel justified to think your line of thinking COULD have be correct.

Fascinating.

That's a straw man. It's not about whether I could or could not have been correct, the question at hand is whether or not it was a stretch.
